I love "Curly Top"! I didn't know it was an adaptation of Daddy Longlegs.
This was SO FUN!!! YAY! Books and favorites, PLEASE do these every so often😊
I'll try, but I did cut some because I was chatting away! 😂
I read Ethan Frome in January as well - it packed such a punch, I loved the reading experience!!
Mitzi, I am happy that the book mail made you happy. People want to know about your make-up because your skin is beautiful and flawless. Thanks for sharing.🥰
Plenty of flaws, but thank you! And thank you so much for your encouragement- you are a treasure. ❤
Mitzi, I wear usually only black. In the summer I will wear some white…and my wardrobe is pretty limited, too!!! ❤
I’ve had Song of Years on my shelves for a while… looking forward to reading it now:)
yes- it's so good!
Can’t wait to read Ethan Frome! Thank you for sharing your Tarte eyeshadow palette
and loungewear with all of us! Really enjoyed this episode and the other retro books that you shared with us! Hope to see you again soon! 😊😊
You're welcome! I instantly regretted the loungewear though because I thought people are going to realize just how boring I dress! 😂
I agree about Ethan Frome. So thought provoking. I agree about bad choices but for me it came down to, don't we all want to be happy. No easy answers. Also this is one I tried to read when I was young and couldn't do it. Waiting till I was older made all the difference. Same thing with The Scarlet Letter. Hated it when I was young. Now one of my favorites.
I'm glad I didn't try this one when I was younger! I had to read The Scarlett Letter in high school and ugh, so I do plan on revisiting it. Life experiences make such a difference.
Hi, Mitzi! I haven't commented in forever, but I never miss your videos! I loved everything about this video. Thank you for sharing your makeup/nail polish. I always think you look flawless, and, as a woman who loves nail polish, I've wondered about yours or if you went to the nail salon and got them done. I'm happy to see you just do them yourself! I have always been scared of trying black nail polish because I think I'd make a mess of it lol! But, maybe practice would make perfect 💅 I have A Lantern in Her Hand, and you have made me want to pick it up!
Oh, thanks for watching! I don't go to the hair or nail salon, although I should treat myself every now and then. I just don't like taking the time lol.
And yes, I'm so ready for A Lantern in Her Hand!
I have another recommendation of a book (and series) that I think you'd absolutely love: "The Unselected Journals of Emma M Lion." I rarely read or enjoy new publications but the first volume I read was absolutely stellar, and I can't wait to get the second one, although they are rather pricey on Kindle considering they are short. Still, worth it in my opinion. Like you,' I've had a fabulous beginning of the year when it comes to books, which included "Before the Fact" as well. Glad you got a bit of snow. I think you got more than we did here in NC! I was jealous!
I loved Daddy-Long-Legs. I watched the Fred Astair movie before I read the book. Loved the movie, too 😊
*immediately puts Song of Years on TBR* and my son is named Wayne, it’s perfect!
oh my goodness, yes! and you'll love this Wayne!
Naked2 Basics Matte Neutral Eyeshadow Palette
is a great one. Love how your makeup looks.
oh yes- that is an awesome pallette the Naked basics have always been my go-to until I found that little tartlette one. I think the tones are similar.
I didn't know there was a book Daddy Long Legs! I remember liking the Fred Astaire movie but it's been forever since I seen it and now I want to watch some Fred Astaire now lol.
I like your make up choices, I don't do a lot because I feel nobody can see it for my glasses unless I am using a really bold color which I don't lol. Maybe if I get contacts as I really want them again. 😀
😂well, you wore some beautiful lipstick! I think you were going to church? Anyway, between bangs and my small eyes, I don't know why I bother with eyeshadow lol. I would wear my glasses in videos, but my ring light gives a glare.
@mitzireadsandwrites Yeah lipstick is about it lol. I have to put up with the glare or I couldn't see to film lol.
hi Mitzi! I am so excited that you read SONG OF YEARS
and loved it! I'm the one who sent it to you. it is my favorite book and I reread it every once in a while. Don't you just love her metaphors and similes? I also think her characterizations are so wonderful and the people in her books always seem so real! Even though I've read it many times, I still cry when i read it. You'll love A LANTERN IN HER HAND also. It was my mother's favorite Aldrich book and is my second favorite.❤
Thank you SO much for sharing it with me!! It's such a great one and now I'm excited to try more by Bess Streeter Aldrich!
Oh Mitzi! I cracked up laughing! I am a winter too! I remember going to our mall in the 80’s (I’m in my late 70’s) and getting my colors done. Have lost my
little book but remember it had swatches of cloth with all the “jewel” colors. You will never see me in yellow or brown! Love blues, reds, dark green, and of course we must wear silver jewelry. Now my hair has turned white and it looks terrific! You are the only person who has ever mentioned or remembered this.
And I love Ethen Frome!!
That was the book she gave me! It had actual cloth swatches in it! 😂It's so funny because last year I started seeing this trend about color analysis and thought, um, that's old news 😂
I'm so glad you enjoyed Song Of Years...I knew you would😊
oh my goodness! Do you know of more like this??
@@mitzireadsandwrites I read all of adlrich's books when I was a teen. I am 71 now and can only shake my head at what so many of the young girls are reading now! A Lantern in Her Hand is a good next book and it's sequel A White Bird Flying. Also Spring Came On Forever was a favorite.
@ ok, thanks! I'm so excited to have more!
@@mitzireadsandwrites- And MISS BISHOP😊 Deborah Borne is my cousin😃
My teen daughters and I LOVED the Fred Astaire version of Daddy Long Legs!!!! I just have daughters and our family comfort movie is You've Got Mail. The soundtrack, the setting, Meg Ryan - it's all just so cozy. We loved that the Daddy Long Legs screenplay was written by Nora Ephron's parents! There are SO many similarities between You've Got Mail and Daddy Long Legs which was such a special treat to notice!
oh, that's great! I love You've Got Mail!! Thanks!
I haven’t read Ethan Frome it I saw the 1993 adaptation and it made a lasting impression on me!
Dear Mitzi….I enjoyed the ‘favorites’ as much as the book talk tonight!
Oh, thanks! I might try to do something like this occasionally and just give timestamps so people can watch or skip around.
Don’t you just LOVE vintage books??? 📚 Ethan Frome is on my TBR list.. ❤
Thanks, Mitzi🌷I read Daddy Long Legs in my early teens and liked it. I also enjoyed the film with Fred Astaire (I think Judy is played by Leslie Caron). However, a favourite of mine is its sequel, Dear Enemy, in which Judy asks one of her friends from college, Sally McBride, to move into the orphanage where she grew up and to manage the place. Sally is reluctant at first, but ends up making a huge difference in the lives of the children and of the people she works with. It’s also epistolary (many letters are from Sally to Judy). It’s been my go-to when I need a super comfort read for a very long time!
Oh, Mitzi, the cardinals on your bird feeder! I feed the birds too, but we don’t have cardinals in the Netherlands (I don’t think we have them in Europe actually). They’re so beautiful!😍
Thanks! I'll see if I can find it!
I watched the film with Fred Astaire and loved it. I have a very vintage book copy I have yet to read.
I'm so glad you are feeling better.
Edit: Navy and Black cause that's who I am. 😅😅 Me too!!
😂you can't go wrong there- matches everything lol
@mitzireadsandwrites Exactly! 😆👍
Thx Mitzi. I’ll look up movie for wartons book. I’ve seen movie for A Lantern in Hand… it’s sweet , but not according to the book totally!😳😌
I read Daddy-Long-Legs last year and enjoyed it -- I just found a vintage copy in good condition in a Little Free Library so I plan to reread it and then read the sequel this year. I had no idea that Curly Top was based on it; I think the musical would indeed be your best bet.
Yes, I know I'll enjoy the musical if it stars Fred Astaire!
I love black nail polish! I'm wanting to read Daddy Long Legs.
Same! I think at my age, a little color goes a long way.
Such a fun video!
Oh my I read Daddy Long Legs in January too! I did enjoy this one too. I did guess the ending, but I expected a different reaction from Jerusha.
I was surprised because she didn't really react at all. 😂It was like, okay lol.
@@mitzireadsandwrites You would think she would be a little upset. 🤔
Ethan Frome has never left me since I read it 4 years ago...Fantastic book !!!...Man oh man...WHAT AN ENDING...❤❤❤😢😢😢😮😮😮...Wharton paints a beautiful picture of winter too...love this book..Thought provoking BIG TIME
That ending!!!! I did not at all see that coming!!! Yes, it will stay with me for a long time.
@@mitzireadsandwrites love to hear your opinion on ...who's the blame the most in this tragedy...in order...
Ethan Frome I just love it❤I don’t love the characters 😂but it is just my kind of book…atmospheric filled with tension and thought provoking ❤❤❤just a great book for winter
so true- thought provoking and stays with you for a long time
⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐ wow you have so many five star reads!
I had the BEST reading month!!
I struggled with Ethan Frome - particularly the language. But I'm still glad I read it. Maybe just ☆☆ for me.
This video was so fun. I love trying new products. I use a pencil eyeliner but I may try what you use. Pencil wears off pretty quick. Thanks for the helpful tips!
Oh yes. That liner doesn't budge!
Love ❤️ you and your content! I am reading all of Edith Wharton’s work with a friend … she is amazing, but you have to remember that she cannot write a happy book!! But, Inn no love her. The House Of Mirth is my favorite so far … get the tissues ready. And, yes, her characters are flawed and make bad choices , but don’t we all! Right now I am reading her autobiography and it is fascinating !
Oh, what a great idea! I'll plan to read her autobiography after reading her books!
I felt the same way about Ethan Frome and I gave it 5 stars. My husband read it too and he also thought it was excellent even though we didn't like any of the characters 😂
Right? Edith Wharton can tell a great story about awful people 😂
I read Ethan Frome several years ago and like you I did like her straight forward writing style and found the story interesting but did not like the ending at all. Not because it wasn’t a happy ending, it just seemed cheesy to me somehow. Anyway I’m interested to watch the review video you recommended because you said she didn’t like it at first either.
Thank you for your videos. I am a new subscriber and am very much enjoying them.
Thanks for watching and welcome!!
Do u hv links to makeup or is it all Clinique?
Oh, Clinique is my foundation. I've tried others, but always go back to that and have been wearing it since I started wearing makeup. I'll try to linking some of my products. Thanks for the interest!
Mitzi Ethan Frome is my favorite story and was glad that you found it so good. The film is wonderful. Enjoy this very sad rendering!
I'm so glad I finally read it! Have you read others by Edith Wharton? I have a couple of her books already, so plan to read those this year, too.
Oh, I loved Curly Top as a kid! I did not know that was from the Daddy Long Legs book. I gotta read it in 2025 now.
I didn't either! I was trying to find a film adaptation and that was mentioned. Can't wait to watch it.
Every year forever the 11th grade English teacher had the class read Huckleberry Finn. That is until I reached the 11th grade and she had my class read Ethan Frome…..I hated it. But that was 1975, so I might give it another go. Oh, and I finally read Huckleberry Finn in January.
What did you think of Huck Finn?
I really enjoyed it. I read Tom Sawyer first, I didn’t remember what a rapscallion Tom was and how he got Huck and Jim in some scraps.
@@clarciep Now you read to read James. It is the view of the slave who was on the raft with Huck. Everyone is raving about it.
I had mixed feelings about Daddy-Long-Legs as well.
Goodness Mitzi! I thought you were in your early 40s! You look so young and lovely.
oh wow, thank you! I guess the lighting helps 😂
Do you do all your makeup everyday?
um, no 😂
@@mitzireadsandwrites I hardly ever wear makeup anymore but I don't film either. 😄
I read Ethan Frome in January as well. I liked it, but my husband didn't like the ending. I agree I didn't like Ethan either!! But yet I still like reading it. Also my husband picked up on things I didn't see.
I was just talking to my son about it yesterday and I told him that I was sure I would pick up on even more if I read it again. I'm amazed at just how much is packed in that little novel.
@@mitzireadsandwrites I agree. I said in my review that it didn't feel like I was reading a classic.
I did not care for Daddy Long Legs at all. I have a vintage copy of The Rim of the Prairie by Bess Streeter Aldrich.. I have read and loved ALL her books. ❤
Just FYI the movies with FA and ST don't follow the book that much.
Hit the wrong button:P.S. what stores do you buy Anastasia and Urban Decay brands? I'm older than you and this winter my skin is BEYOND DRY!! Have to go to bed or outside with Aquaphor all over my mouth and under my nose!!😑
I buy most things from Sephora, so try there. Oh my goodness! My nose! That's a new problem for me! I feel like it's always red and peeling. Maybe I should start putting on Aquaphor, too.
You are beautiful!🥰
I am so glad you only gave Daddy Long Legs only three stars. An element of the book was creepy to me. I didn’t like it. PS oh good grief. I just looked and I gave it 4 stars. Go figure.
yeah, I know what you're talking about on that one
