🤣thats whole new angle on making chips.. Ive just got the same machine. I also recently found a hand Drummond with motor conversion Regards Stuart Bell from UK.
Hi Bart. You took the words out of my mouth with your shaper history. I have the Elliott 14M probably engineered by the same craftsmen. Great finish. It does look rather dinky on that stand. You need a longer vee belt so the motor will drop to the left to clear the casting. I plan to re-paint mine grey in the future. Can't wait to see some videos of it working on jobs. Great machines.
One of my viewers (James Denney) sent me over, I'm in the process of fixing up an Alba 1A right now. Yours is in much better shape, that's a beautiful machine there. Thanks for sharing, it gives me more information on what the parts are supposed to look like as I have to make some parts to repair mine. Just subbed too, I like your work!
We like this nice sized one because 10 inches all we would ever need in our micro machining shop. What a beautiful shaper, you are (we are thinking) going to love this machine, thank you for the share. Nice to see you can grind your own shaper HSS tool bits as well. Dinner good? you could have cooked i a heat treat oven LOL. Really nice clean surface finish Bart. Lance & Patrick.
Hi Bart, thanks for the tour of your new gadget. I thought it would be a great new addition to the workshop but when i saw the chips getting cut, i thought 'Oh no. he's installed it into the kitchen!!'. No matter, i suppose first class chips is a good start and we can expect more first class projects from you in future. And remember, always wear safety glasses, even when you're doing the chips. Stay safe and keep up the good work. 👍
Haha thanks Pedro. My girlfriend ask me why I needed another machine and I said It would make nice Chips and it's a nice machine to look at. So that's what I had to do. But I didn't get permission to put it in the kitchen...
Those kind of chips are the best ones! And @11:50 is just how I would picture myself with my (imagined) shaper. This is lovely, you just earned yourself a new sub. Cheers!
Prachtig Bart. Handige machientjes, sinds de lts niet meer mee gewerkt. Mijn pa had er vroeger ook één in zijn schuur, ik meen een AI. Hij maakte er zelfs zwaluwstaartgeleidingen mee.
Bart, This is the last machine you will ever sell/ allow out of your shop "when they pry it from your cold, dead hands!" I have a Klopp 450, and I would not be without a shaper. Also, be aware that in most modern democracies, it is against the Law to sell a shaper, once you have bought one (unless you swap it for a better/bigger one!) LOL Once you get the hang of this machine, you will be surprised what it can do, and what lovely surface finish it can produce. If it didn't come with a vise or the vise is only a bit iffy, spend some coin on a decent one. These machines need a sturdy heavy vise! Goodluck with the shaper! Paddy
Thanks Paddy, I'm not sure it would be the last machine I ever sell but i'm not planning on selling. And now I heard of the Shaper Law that makes sense. But I don't have room for a bigger one... This small version is nice and cute. Your correct about the vise, I didn't came with one and use an old vise that I had. I will need to upgrate to a bigger one.
Just like mine, there's something magical about the shaper, but take out your handle on the cross slide, mine has a tendency to work itself loose and fall on the floor...
Yes thanks. It is a really nice machine to work with. And for longer use I will take of the handle. But I need to learn the machine al little better and with the handle on it's easier to see if it engages the cross slide on the front or back stroke.
Hobby and work. A work as a teacher at a University for physical education for three days a week. Beside that I work with my metal projects. Blacksmithing, metal art, welding, machining: allround metal work. I did study metalwork when I was younger and worked 6 years as a toolmaker in a aerospace center in the Netherlands. When I was 25 I changed the metalwork for teaching PE and martial arts. After a few years of fulltime teaching I brought back some metal work. Started as a hobby but becoming more a business. So I do that for 2-3 days a week now beside teaching. Most projects on TH-cam are my own projects.

Thanks Bart. Love your sense of humor and all the hard work you put in to this project.

Nice machine. The removable doors are awesome
Very nice shaper machine. I’m jealous.

Thanks you. Good luck with your rebuild and if you need any more info or dimensions than let me know.
I love the first shaper "chips"!
Good looking machine.
Yes, still needs some work but it runs very nice.
👍 Good show. Reminded me of my school days, working on it.

It's my dream to someday get a small shaper, thanks for the video.
Thanks! and yes, a small shaper is really nice machine to have. And they are not so expensive around here (Netherlands).
Pushing the machine to its limits!
Hi Bart just found your channel, good shaper video
Thanks 👍
Nice chips :-) and a shaper in nice shape ;-) they are rear here were i live

Haha, yes. and thanks.
That made me laugh a good one.
After seeing your milling machine, you may use your shaper more than you think.
Great fun.
Thanks Jeff. And yes, the Shaper is a really nice machine to use. If I need something flat I prefer the shaper over the mill and eat chips watching.
Hi Bart. You have a nice shaper, so i subscribed. Shapers are fun.

I had to pause the video to post this comment. "Full toothbrush, WD40 mode" 😂 Absolutely brilliant way to put it.
Welcome to the shaper club.
Bart,

I loved the part where you made chips out of what looks like sweet potato or Yam. I subscribed very nice videos you make.
Nice... I like those chips.
Nice job.
Mooie machine Bart,
Wat voor sopje gebruikte je ná de WD40 aktie?
Denk petroleum. Lost beetje oud vet / olie op maar houd het ook wat vettig. Dit gebruik ik wel vaak voor schoonmaken.
Great video Bart’s, like the chips you cook sweet potato?. I just purchase a shaper 10” Royal I’m just starting to make chips too lol.
Oh Bart, you silly goose. Thank you!
Never seen Adam Booth machining frozen food on his G&E LOL
He should. He loves the shaper, making big chips and making food so it would be the perfect combination 😁
@@bartharkemametalworks2299 Exactly! I will send him the link
Mooie machine!
nice potato chip maker
I'm assuming this is a hobby for you, Yes? If so, do you work full time in a different trade or profession?
