Happy I found your TH-cam channel. You do so many interesting creative things plus I enjoy your more philosophical talks as well. I’m from the USA and am a natural science artist which includes botanical illustration so I really appreciate all that you do.
Thank you. It’s an interesting way to work. I’m using an old worn damask tablecloth as my base cloth at the moment - in some ways it is not nearly as suitable as buying new fabric would have been, it certainly makes the printing more difficult, but for me I love the feeling that this is a project with a lot of personal ties - a family cloth, plants from the garden. Hi Jane. Your work is very beautiful and I’m so impressed with your coordination to walk and sew at the same time! I would have several and myriad accidents for sure. I collected and sowed lot of sweet cicely seeds which are now growing on in the greenhouse. I will keep some for my herb and dye beds and pass lots on too. A great plant. X
Thank you so much, Jane, for another beautiful video. Those tulips are extravagantly lovely. Your creativity is a joy to watch & your embroidered sweet cicely print is exquisite. Gorgeous spring flowers in your beautiful garden too. I hope you have a really lovely weekend.
The tulips are beautiful. The colours of the cotton threads are wonderful as is the embroidery - it will look great in the exhibition. As always, I loved seeing your co-presenters.
Another fabulous Friday film Jane. Just always so relaxing and inspiring. I adore your textile work. And the colours you’re achieving from the natural dyes are beautiful. I’m definitely getting me some sweet cicely! And always a delight to see Dixie and Teasel (and lovely cat too!).
Thanks Susan (& thanks for the order - I found an extra avocado dyed one yesterday so I’ll pop that in. It was a sampling skein so isn’t an exact match for the ones that sold out but maybe near enough) x
I love following your creative process! And those tulips are just amazingly beautiful! Will have to be on the lookout for them, os something similar. I love my simple, single, ordinary tulips (who are just about to bloom), but yours are of a totally different caliber.
I think I love both Solveig - but these are extreme! I did grow them all in the tunnel though - partly because the ground was frozen in the garden - and I think that helps preserve them.
Lovely video ... Beautiful gentle dye colours . Sweet Cicely doesn't seem to grow here but I'm going to order a plant and see if I can get it established. I might try Cow Parsley ? I am so drawn to botanical dyeing .... Love the threads. I did dip some in when I did the skeins from you.... Excited to do more . Is that all hand stitching on your piece? Enjoyed seeing your garden springing into bloom and your happy doggies ❤
Thanks Tania. Sweet Cicely grows very well from fresh seed - I’m happy to send you some later in the season but do beware it becoming a thug! Cow parsley gives a pale greyish green, gorse is good at this time of year too. Yes it’s all hand stitching - something I may yet regret! Thanks for watching. J x
Loved the sweet sicily “quilt” and your dyed colours. Where do you get your recycled cotton thread? Will some be for sale? Also did I see leucojum’s in your garden? I planted two bunches of 10 here but only got 2 flowers 😥 thank you for helping to keep me inspired
Thanks Andrea - yes the thread is in the shop under natural dye supplies. www.snapdragonlife.com/store/category/287_spring-making/288_natural-dye-supplies/ J x

Thank you so much. Back on Friday with a film about a fibre art workshop I went to last week. J x
It’s amazing that everything in your embroidery is from plants, the colour, texture, print, threads …everything. It’s so lovely. Makes me smile ☺️

Thanks Laura - that was exactly what worried me about the treadmill - but actually it’s not as difficult as I feared. Xx
Oh Jane, what an absolutely gorgeous video this was. Had me smiling all the way through & the colours from the dyeing are stunning.❣
Thank you so much Liz! J x

Enjoyed that Jane now I know how you get those bundles of thread wound so neatly !
Yes I love my wonder!

What beautiful colours. Did you mordant your threads first?
Thank Sue. Yes the threads are all mordanted - with aluminium acetate - the most important step for the natural dyer. X
