I loved this, sometimes a suggested video comes up and I click on it and it’s so shouty and fast, I turn it off, despite it looking cosy. I was cat sitting last week and they have normal tv (not watched it for years) so I put it on and I couldn’t believe how condescending it is, how fear based it is, and I realised that if this is what people are watching, no wonder they seem so alien to me, I live in a totally different world, one of love, magic, moss, creativity etc.
I think you are so right. That the mainstream media - especially if watched without choosing as a kind of background- does warp brains, makes them fearful, avaricious, scattered. I’m very glad that we have the choice to interact more intentionally. X
Had a giggle as you were talking about you and your husband focusing on different things when out and about. My husband works in IT and will point out cell site towers, while I will notice every dog 😂
Love this. So good. ❤ One of my favourite verses is - 'And now, dear brothers and sisters, one final thing. Fix your thoughts on what is true, and honorable, and right, and pure, and lovely, and admirable. Think about things that are excellent and worthy of praise.' Philippians 4:8
I loved this video Jane. It made me realise that I need to be more selective with what I feed my mind. I immediately went to my subscriptions and unsubscribed from those that are not serving the person I want be. I retired this year after 43 years as a nurse, I have never considered myself creative but recently I have found joy with dabbling in watercolours ( dabbling being the operative word). I have also done a bit of knitting over the last year or so and have enjoyed that too. Your videos fill me with joy, you are so inspirational. Thank you! x
Your comment about you and Ewan doing the same walk but enjoying different things made me laugh. BH & I are the same; we’ll walk down the garden and he’ll notice things that need attention, fixing, cutting back etc whilst I’ll only notice a plant that survived the wind, a butterfly or the noise of the breeze in the leaves. 😂
Now I know why you appeared on my algorithm 😊this is such an important message and for some almost too simple. I think it can be difficult to believe in the power of discernment. Awesome video 👏👏
Hello Jane, I am a mental health nurse, I live in Kirkcaldy, Fife. I am going to be 55 myself before the end of the year. I have just discovered your channel today, so have been watching a few of your videos. I only every listen the news on the radio when I am travelling to and from work. I stopped watching the news on tv years ago. I am not interested in the sensationalised view of the world. I much prefer to spend my time with my creativity. I sew, spin wool, weave and even paint portraits on occasion so never short of things to keep myself occupied. The only down side to this is I do have a tendency to spend far too much time on my own. Though I am working on this and although I have improved how much I go out of my house, I am still not spending enough time in the company of others lol I guess it does not help that I too have a chronic condition that can be a big barrier, that and I work shifts. But having said all that, I do consider myself to be very lucky that I have the means and ability to participate in so many different kinds of creativity. :) Take care T x
Thank you. You are right, I think that, when you are happy in your own company and enjoy creating things alone, it is very easy to slip into being a little too solitary. J xx
I don’t watch live tv and sometimes even have to stop listening to radio 4 news as it loves broadcasting human suffering once the terrible facts have been reported. Slightly ironically I turn to TH-cam but it’s heavily curated towards positivity and creativity. Except for the shorts, they can be appalling. Loved listening to you this morning x
I loved this chat!! So very thoughtful on how we engage and actually make our daily journey wonderful. I had to laugh at what we see and how it may be very different from our partners. I collect antiques and when I come across something special and bring it home, my partner notices and points out every flaw immediately. It used to bother me, but I realize it is just my brain-wave, left-brained partner’s visual perspective and after 35 years together, it makes me laugh now. And how many times have I made a major change to my garden, and months later, after walking by it every day, asked when did I add that!
I couldn’t agree more with your words! Your channel came up in my feed today as a recommendation and I’m so glad it has. Am now a subscriber and look forward to watching your older videos.
9:40 What you just explained is the crux of the beautiful little treatise by French philosopher Alain Badiou In Praise of Love. If you haven't read it, I'm all but certain you'd enjoy it very much. As did I this talk (half way in). Thank you, we do need a reminder every now and again.
Again, always appreciate you speaking adult at a human pace. Tell it. I also read news in printed form most of the time. My nervous system cannot tolerate being yelled at. I just experienced a reminder of this trying to watch some of the political conventions in the U.S. The noise levels were intolerable.
I would love for your subscribers to share some of their favorite TH-cam Channels that promote beauty, nature, creativity, and tranquility. I have a list that I would be happy to share.
Thanks Anna. There is a video somewhere here where people do exactly that - but I’m planning a video for later this year about all the things I’ve gained from having a TH-cam channel and that might be a good place for an updated list. At the moment I’m loving @commonfarmflowers @thelasthomelyhouse and @undereaglemountainpodcast and I’m looking forward to seeing what my friend Kat does @fodderandfarm as she launches a new pickle business and restarts her TH-cam channel to show the behind the scenes.
Fascinating to hear of your experience of a non curated opening page, like you what turns up are things I like watching or want to learn craft techniques from. Too much information about the awful things or peoples awful experiences becomes overload and our levels of compassion diminish, which in some ways defeats the purpose of seeking help. However, sometimes it’s good to watch something out if your comfort zone which challenges you.
I think that is so right - we need to be actively pushing the boundaries of what we are interested in and following interesting rabbit holes with curiosity. X
Absolutely right 👍. These algorithms seem to have improved so much recently. Especially noticeable in Instagram, I think. I used to switch off the "for you" function at once because they were showing me totally annoying things. Recently it hay been just fine. The "machine" is learning and that is positive for me...
It is a Kaweco sport - well spotted - but I’m afraid that I’m not going to be very good in the stationery chat department. I originally got the pen for my husband as it’s refillable and he was using disposable fountain pens at work. Then everything went digital with prescriptions and the pen was abandoned in a drawer so I took it back. That one is metal but I also have a couple of the lighter, cheaper Kaweco sports - one in my bag and one on my desk. Once I like something I tend to stick with it. J x
Bit like this vlog, as an ocd dog phobic person this video totally triggered me! The look of two dogs sniffing each other on a sofa is not my idea of fun. Not everyone loves your pets, oh well it was worth a try but not for me....

That is a good quote. Thank you for sharing Linda. X
"You can improve your life, yourself just by choosing what things it is that you notice" Thank you for such a beautiful advice.
You're so welcome! Just x

Thank you Yvonne - that sounds like a really good thing to do. Xx
Thank you for the lovely chat xxx
Thanks for watching Liz. X
Hi Jane, lovely, calm video, sat and watched it on Saturday night with a G&T! Cheers ❤
Cheers! X

That’s so funny! Yes nothing would ever be mended if it were down to me noticing them! Just x
Thank you, just what I needed to hear today.
I’m so glad that you enjoyed it Jo. X

Jane, very sage advice 😊
Thank you. I’m glad that you enjoyed it. X
Wise words, as always Jane. I love your videos. Always look forward to them. And your house is gorgeous. Hope you have a really lovely weekend. 🌿
Thank you! You too! Sunny times here. X
What a delightful uplift!!!
Thank you x
An especially valid for us in the US at this moment.
I’m sure the information overload is extreme for you at the moment. X

Thank you. It is hilarious how the filters work with different people. I never ever notice petrol stations for example.
Enjoyed hearing your comments, ...and the dogs were a delightful addition..just doing what dogs do! 😊
Yes - well, at one point when editing I thought I might have to put some random footage over them . . . But they calmed down 😂
The dogs were like an amusing punctuation to what you were saying 😊❤

I would love for your subscribers to share some of their favorite TH-cam Channels that promote beauty, nature, creativity, and tranquility. I have a list that I would be happy to share.
Depending on people's personal definitions of those things, Inspired by Nikki could fit the bill.
Thanks Anna. There is a video somewhere here where people do exactly that - but I’m planning a video for later this year about all the things I’ve gained from having a TH-cam channel and that might be a good place for an updated list.

Thankyou Jane, I found this very interesting and affirming. There is so much to be grateful for in my world while others suffer so much. Take care. Xx
The bombardment is relentless. I try to just deal with what is in front of me. The numbing scrolling is so bad.
It is certainly the most stupidly depressing thing that I do - so easy to slip into.

That’s so interesting Sandra - when it works it works.
I had the same experience with TH-cam a couple of days ago. I was horrified.
Isn’t it an eye opener? X
@@snapdragonlife very much so.
Was that pen a Kaweco Sport? Would love some stationary chat from you 🧡
