    I am again reminded of how little I know about this hobby. The average hobbyist is unaware of much of what is out there and so are missing out on so much. Thanks to your efforts we get to see in our lifetime species that otherwise we would have remained clueless about. :)
    Knife fish have always been one of my favorites; that suspected morph is gorgeous :)

    Quick early update - Erythrinus sp. has darkened on the dorsal surface to a brick red/brown, unpaired fins and ventral surface are fire orange. Pyrrhulina have lots of red in the fins and some red on each scale. Lebiasina elongata are typical Lebiasina, high flow rate seems to turn the aggression down a notch, still always nipping at each other but nothing serious, very greedy and eager feeders. Knifefish doing well, put into a very mature aquarium, likes to zoom around and forage in the leaf litter and detritus. Looking forward to seeing what other oddities you bring next shipment!

    These new species are exciting, and, I too hope that they keep their radiant colors in captivity. The apistos are my favourites, and this new species resembles A. cacatuoides somewhat, which could indicate that it may adapt to aquarium conditions. The knife fish is unusual and may just be an aberrant individual, because I have kept mottled specimens of E. virescens in the past. Good to know that they won't be over-collected in the future.

    shot in the dark... but.. any idea on what plant species the riparian growth there contains? and which aquatic species, if any? this is for a biotope i am planning. would love to hear if you can point me in a general direction

    • @belowwater
      @belowwater  ปีที่แล้ว

      the riparian vegetation is pretty random, ficus, aroids etc. Seedlings from Amazonian trees and sometimes ferns. In the dry season likely just their root systems, and the high water season these plants will be some weeks under water. I think you could grow potted philodendrons and other aroids and maybe some creeping ficus (careful they can split silicone tanks with their roots) and let their roots dangle in the water. Generally, there are no permanently aquatic plants in those places. I think the dark water just has not enough light, especially with the forest cover above. Round rocks, leaf litter and some roots along the edges would be most realistic.
