I did something like that at my previous job as an IT auditor at a public accounting firm. I’m trying to get back into IT audit. I’m already in the CASP program in hopes that it will prepare for my next job in IT audit.

I'm doing the Qualys PCI Compliance course now after doing the Vulnerability Management Foundation course you suggested in your previous videos. Would you recommend the Qualys course on PCI DSS Compliance as the knowledge and practical hands-on application of the standard that would be best to use in interviews and eventually get the job that leads to the sponsored ISA training?

You’re welcome! The ISA certification is only good for an individual company and none transferable. You don’t need to get the certification to perform the job it’s just a nice bonus.

I came across your channel and I have been on a mission. Reading is fundamental; so, I’ve been reading and becoming familiar with cyber security. Knowledge is power, and I will be looking this training as well. Thanks for sharing 🙏🏽
I recommend getting a basic level understanding of IT in general. The different components and common systems. That way you understand how things work, and if you know how things work, then you know how they don't work and that's essential for auditing.
For security in general, it's important to know how all the systems work and how they come together. You don't have to be a master, but you also can't just walk in. Think about it. If you're doing security, that means you need to defend systems and networks etc. Therefore you need to know all the little things an attacker may want to do and prepare, monitor and respond to it. Which also means you need to know how those systems and networks etc work, because you need to know how they break and what their overall weaknesses are.
Trust me, once you get even a basic understand of IT in general; everything else will start coming more easily to you because you will begin seeing how things connect.
Edit: I noticed I didn't actually give you any advice. Look into the Network+, then Security+, then perhaps pick a cloud environment like Azure and get their Azure Fundamentals cert; then if you want to do something like the PCI auditor course that Boyd mentioned, do that.
Absolutely agree - understanding how things work just makes things that much easier. I guess you can apply that to everything in life. Knowledge is power! One thing i wish i did earlier in my career was simply reading more.

Hello, I'm new to Cybersecurity. I'm taking the isc2 certified in cybersecurity course to learn the fundamentals of cybersecurity. So, basically, I will call myself a newbie. Needless to say, the part "enforce password history" says 24 passwords remembered. Yet, the screen talking about what should be implemented on "enforce password history" says it should be 10 password(s). Is that another error or could the company let the auditor determine if the 24 are allowed versus the policy states? Just asking for clarity and reference.

How can you go from this into a more technical role? Or is the money in this role so high because it's tedious while not being technical? I have an opportunity to snag an audit role, but it's not technical and I am currently in a very technical voice engineering role. I am afraid to lose the technical chops that I have by moving into a non technical role. Is this a good foot in the door into cyber? What is a path back to a technical role? Why do auditors make so much $$ for a non tech role?
You missed a finding in the audit. The maximum password age is 90 days. Its configured to 30 days.... Ive joined the BC Training Academy but just waiting for on-boarding. Looking forward to becoming an Information Security Auditor!!!

I am an internal auditor that deals with SOX day in and day out, year after year. Honestly, I am bored of it. I badly need a change. I think I just found it. Hopefully, I can do this. I am determined and motivated, and if I follow this guidance, and I work hard, I should be able to achieve the change I desperately need. With that said, this will be a huge challenge. I have lost confidence because of years of stagnation. Any words of encouragement would be greatly appreciated!

You mentioned that this is in the realm of GRC, what are all the realms/categories of cybersecurity? Do you already have a video going in depth with this?
I will start out with the fact I am no expert. I'm learning about cybersecurity to get started on a career. But the other realms would be things like ethical hacking, security analysis, security engineering and architecture, forensics, incident response.
Everyone going into the field should know the basics of all these moving parts, but your career would focus in on one expertise.
There s a lot of fields in cybersecurity. But sadly, he wouldn't cover it because some of it is "technical" or "hacking." Which is annoying because he wouldn't cover the downside of GRC but sells you on going the GRC route as it's the next best thing. But here s a few since I'm more knowledgeable in cybersecurity:
Education and end user training
Consulting
Pentesting/hacking (legally)
Engineering
Cloud
My advice is to check out UnixGuy Cyber Security Careers because he tends to go deeper than me (cybersecurity student)

Serious question! How you land a job without a government CLEARANCE?
Because government clearances are for jobs in the public sector. Cybersecurity is needed by both public and private sector companies.
