  • The brightest of the next generation of royal air force personnel, perhaps the military’s future fast jet pilots, convened in one location for a very special event.
    The National air and space camp has brought together more than 450 air cadets from all corners of the UK who are treated to their very own private air show.

    It's just such a shame that they can't get as inspired as easily by learning to fly as a cadet. As an ex A cat gliding instructor at RAF Sealand, I think it's a crying shame that we can't give the cadet's the same hands-on experience of learning to fly that we used to since they disbanded so many of the gliding schools.

      Ah I didn't know you used to be able to do that. That is a big shame. I'm guessing it's a safety risk thing now of something like that that has caused this to happen?

      @@danielwhyatt3278 Money. Funding has been cut back. I'm not sure if every Air Cadets used to get to go gliding, but many did. I'm also not sure of the state of the CCF, but I'm pretty sure they tended to get more chances.

      Don't be, barely anyone does it, or anything for that matter. I've been there two years and done only a few events, nothing big.

    Hopefully the RAF have their pilot training programme sorted out by the time they apply, and have knocked off the positive discrimination and gone back to choosing by merit alone.

      It's not positive discrimination it's just discrimination against white males, for those uninformed the RAF has apparently said it won't be hiring any white males so they meet diversity numbers

      Facts, if they don't get accepted they pull the race card then the RAF has to accept them in or else they will have news reporters outside RAF High Wycombe.

      @@arrielradja5522 The RAF used the slogan 'Rise above the Rest' in an advert a while back. But with the positive discrimination going on, 'Rise above the white man' sums up the force right about now.

    Didn't think you where taking us native population on anymore? My Great-Grandfather fought in the Battle of Britain in a Hurricane. I'm glad he didn't have to see the absolute joke the RAF has become in his life time.

      It is a crying shame how much the RAF has gone down hill, even though their budget is supposed to be going up again, even before the war in Ukraine. The piolets are still as great as ever though. At least as far as we know with sadly so little actual first had experience now over a real conflict zone.

      Your so right my dad was a radio operator on Lancaster bombers flew 31 ops over France and Germany 8 times to Berlin I don’t know what he would think of this pack of idiots they have in the RAF now.

      I think that's a pretty misinformed comment, and surely our brave young flying men and women deserve a lot more credit than your statement. Please don't forget, the UK has some of the finest trained personnel in some of the world's best aircraft, supported by technical systems and weaponry which are the envy of other nations (and some of that was designed and built in the UK)
      Smaller and less well funded than war time 1945? Of course... but a joke? Think again.

    Okay so, attendance by Application. No. No it wasn't. Secondly they are not from all over the UK, Wings got missed out and entire regions had no representation. South and West Yorkshire Wing, one of the biggest in North Region had a grand total of 0 cadets there on the camp.
    I was there last year and was interviewed by BFBS among other broadcasters but to day By application is simply not true.

      I only saw positive effects when I was a cadet.
      Letting folk be themselves wasn't an issue for anyone.

      Only thing I can say was when I was in about 4 years ago they wanted more female NCOs
      Let’s say you had 20 applicants for the role of corporal 17 boys 3 girls and there were 5 places you could almost guarantee that at least 2 of those 3 girls would get promoted every time

      @@adamwoodford7629 CCF(RAF) so probably independent school, age 15 too young to fly solo in RAFAC glider so trains to solo standard at civilian gliding club, still proud to be an RAF Air Cadet.

      did you go on the wednesday, if so did you do gliding . i was suppost to go but to get there i had to travel 48 miles at 5 am to get to the pick up point

    Glad to see the RAF doing all this to their Air Cadets it’s good to see. I’m hoping the the Army and Royal Navy do similar to encourage their cadets also.

    Massive thank you to all staff and QAI's for there help at NASC. It is truly one of the most epic camps to get on in coming years! It is a highly tailored camp fitted for all with an interest in engineering, aerospace, aviation, cyber, air traffic control, remote air systems, drones etc. Overall I highly recommend putting your name down for it, even if you're only a day cadet. The industry day was the highlight for me as you get to talk to so many amazing people around the aerospace industry and you're even treated to your own private airshow!
