"rules are meant to be broken" the irony! this sentence turned to be a sentence on Santino, when John broke the Continental rules and shot him in there.
It was obvious even without this scene that Winston didn't have a lot of respect for Santino. And although Winston was forced by the rules to banish Wick, he delayed the hit order in the final scene when he gives Wick an hour to disappear (and also a marker for future use).
Winston sees Wick as a son and respects him because he sees a younger version of himself. They are both traditional and old fashioned so the work out well.
I like that the underling was instructed to "tell" his boss something, and he corrects it to the more respectful "I will INFORM him". The dialogue is always well-written.
Meester Incubi would've been a continuity error. John Wick 2 is set about a week after the first one ended, and Charlie sure managed to grow a huge ass beard in just a week
About including this scene on the film: I disagree. The story line does not justify this scene. It is very good, as to provide details surrounding the character of Santino. To justify some rivals siding with John Wick (in the third chapter) against Santino pathway of aggressive expansion. But this line of thought was not clearly exploited in Chapter 2. I guess it is still possible to use this one scene in Chapter 3. To have a flashback of the past, of Santino's actions. To justify some shadow characters siding with John Wick, to assist, to help. As a political move to weaken the crime syndicate lead by Santino. As part of a strategy to gain ground, using John Wick as a mere puppet. To get rid of multiple enemies before he is no longer available. Because it is known, he eventually dies, and the story ends. I sense there is too much John Wick and not enough underground background story. For instance I do remember a character known as: Akoni (by Chukwudi Iwuji, www.imdb.com/title/tt4425200/characters/nm1030244?ref_=ttfc_fc_cl_t28 ). See at: th-cam.com/video/_bz8-1q2f-4/w-d-xo.html . I remember seen this character with Santino's sister. Leaving a conversation a little bit angry, feeling offended by the deal imposed by Santino's family. The same character is seen again, presenting his respect to the new head of the family. This side character has seen with his own eyes, how a single man can get rid of the sister and the brother. Sure this small and valuable detail can be taken into account in the story line of Chapter 3. As this character bad feelings towards the Santino family, can be exploited as investment in: John Wick. The more time he is alive, the more bad press gets the Santino family. So it is weakened over time. Just my two cents on the subject.
both in this deleted scene and in the actual movie i love how much winston just HATES santino. he’s dealing with a complete moron who thinks he’s a genius and is watching him make enemies with the most dangerous man alive. the whole “you stabbed the devil in the back” speech is so good.
This scene shouldn't be deleted... IT SHOULDN'T HAVE BEEN! THIS is the EXACT issue on why Winston goes against his own rules and din't do much to help in excommunicting John because Santiago was a fucking dickbag all along, going against the rules of what the whole creed stands for and the way it operates. I feel this is a nice build up and yet they omitted it out. What a shame...
Some people are able to do that. And I think it was about two weeks. John did take some time to heal before he did go to retrieve his car. The Adjudicator had pointed out it was about 6 weeks from the time John's dog had been killed up to her resanctifying the NY Continental.
It strikes me that, for an action movie, John Wick has an extremely odd take on the idea of rules and legacies. The vast majority of action movies--certainly American action movies--would be on Antonio's side. Screw the establishment, rules should be broken, change needs to be sudden and violent. But throughout John Wick, the "heroes" follow and take refuge in the rules and agreements of the past. They firmly hold to legacies and traditions. Winston's line, about how actually, tradition is the friend of progress, is a quietly remarkable line because of how unusual a statement it is to make.
Then it’s flipped, the coward who breaks the rules tries to hide behind them, and the tool he used is forced tear them down completely. And Santino is a part of the establishment. Rules and Consequences, nobody can escape them.
@@irvankurniawicaksonooey6368 they also need a guy with higher power within the continental which is Winston. John, the Matrix guy and Winston would take down the High Table for sure

The Organization encourages grace and courtesy in all things, even in assassination. Something Ms. Perkins forgot in the first movie, and Santino does here as well. It's like the Kingsman Agency, only evil. As a whole, the Organization is the perfect example of lawful evil, with some exceptions, just as the Kingsman is the example of Lawful Good, with the exception of a certain cockney git.
I get why they cut it. The chronological timeline is that from chapter 1 to the end of chapter 2, only 3 weeks or less has past. There’s no way Charlie could’ve grown his beard that long in that short of time.
Shows off Santino even more as a pompous, cowardly a-hole. The rules are only meant to be broken as long as they benefit him, as long as he's the one holding the gun. He'll honor them all day long if he finds himself on the other end of the barrel.
Santino demonstrates here that he has zero honor or respect for others. I was surprised that Wick was banished after taking this little shi# out, even at the club. Perhaps the focus, and real reason for the contract being called on him, is to cull the truly evil assassins. I, for one would never hunt an honorable man, for any price.
Chris Weidner rules are rules dude, Winston knows, John knew it. If he made an exception with John then everyone would think they could break the rules every now and again.
That is a very interesting theory. They only made the contract international so they could purge the assassin world of those who don't follow the rules, and thus pose a threat to those at the High Table. It would make sense to since John is considered the best of the best, they can take out their enemies while also having the side effect of possibly killing off the one man who could kill them.
Bnadit terrible theory. Making his contract international just makes everyone go after him who is to say if they are rule breakers or not. Plus alot of ppl who work for the high table ppl will probably go after him for $7,000,000
Well anyone with common sense will know that it is pretty much suicide to attempt to kill him, and dirty assassins already have issues with common sense (Perkins) that would make them more likely to go after Wick. Plus if you kill him you'll get a large amount of prestige and those who work for the High Table already have prestige, so while they might get the title of Wick killer they shouldn't take the risk as it would be more dangerous for them than it would be rewarding.
The Continental has to enforce the rules, otherwise the rules mean nothing and no one will respect them. They can't make exceptions for anyone, otherwise the most powerful people would disregard the rules and make them pointless and destroy the organization. People go to the continental because of the guarantee's it provides. It guarantee's that if someone tries to harm you there, they will be killed....so at the very least your death is avenged. That's a far better deterrence than paying millions of dollars for armed security all the time that could fail to protect you anyways. Let's say Santino had killed Wick in the Continental instead. He would be marked just the same, no way to buy his way out of it no matter how powerful he is. It would mean war. The continental is actually one of the biggest criminal organizations, rivaling that of the people on the High Table, in fact it may even secretly be more powerful than the high table.....and it has way better connections because all of its patrons are criminals. The continental isn't just a hotel either, it's a bank for the criminal underworld. It basically holds a lot of criminal money. So in that regard, if you tried to go after the continental, they have your money and you will never see it again, and they can spend it all to send assassins after you. I mean they literally control a vast assassin network that can be activated at a moments notice. Even the High Table couldn't compete with that. The continental gets away with being soo powerful without fighting the High Table because it provides services they need, and does so without stepping on anyones toes or screwing anyone over.
Should have kept this scene in, not only because David Patrick Kelly is an iconic yet under-rated actor but because it makes D'Antonio's death all the more fitting. *"Rules are meant to be broken"* Oh yes they certainly are.

Everything in this movie is so colourful. I love it!!
He knew that for Santino it wasn't about business, he was truly evil and would only bring misery to the world with his rise to the High Table. I mean the guy killed his own sister to gain power....he would kill anyone else too. He also knew that eventually, a rabid dog like Santino would threaten the Continental. I mean he already threatened Winston in the movie near the end when he wanted him to pull Wick's hotel privileges. Santino was trying to threaten the Continental into doing what he wanted. And based on his behavior, if Santino had lived long enough, eventually he would have went tried to have Winston killed just out of spite and take over the Continental. Winston always liked Wick like a son though, he respected Wick because Wick respected the rules, and he knew Wick was a badass. If you notice, when Wick meets with Winston a few times, Winston is never worried that the reason Wick is there is to kill him because he was hired by someone. Everyone else see's Wick, and they know they're marked for death. But not Winston. He trusts Wick. There's a part where Wick comes to the Hotel and tells the man at the desk that he wants to see management, and the guy at the desk asks him "Should I announce you?". What was going on in that scene, is he was asking that to see if Wick wanted to go unannounced because he was there to kill Winston as a hit job. Now of course they would have no reason to suspect that Wick would be hired to kill Winston.....but they deal with assassins all the time, so eventually it could happen where an assassin is hired to kill Winston by someone. The secret of that scene, is that it showed the guy at the desk basically knew that if Wick was there to kill Winston, there was no point in trying to stop him or to alert Winston, because it would just be a death sentence for anyone who got in his way. Of course, I don't think Wick would take a job of killing Winston, he would probably refuse it....but it's just one of those little secret nuggets in the movie that went over a lot of peoples heads.
Demonstrating again how people use "progress" to justify their own greed and lust for power. Every other character in the whole Wick universe has more honor and integrity than Santino, the only character to call getting his own way "progress". Also shows why the Wick stories are so great, since this message comes through even in site of this scene being inexplicably cut.
Winston hates Santino for denegrating the rules as Santino wants to be the renegade while others are sticking to the rules. So as the renegade Santino must be disciplined or put down In order to keep order in the system.
I think mr. Akoni was added in the movie to show that Gianna wasn't a good person, and John isn't doing a sin, assasinating her. Also the funny part is, mr. Akoni attended the ceremony of Santino at museum too in the movie, even though he was disrespected by both of the siblings 😂
It's easy to believe Winston was given at least one opportunity to gain a seat at the High Table. But his love is for the New York Continental, as he makes quite clear in 3. He even goes to the length of risking Wick's wrath to that end. Shooting Wick off the roof was a gamble on Winston's part, and we will hopefully see how that plays out. Having ambition doesn't always mean wanting the absolute most, but just having a set goal and wanting to attain that and keep it. The New York Continental was Winston's ambition, and he will do anything to keep it. Accepting a seat at the High Table would mean giving up the NY Continental.
Don’t know why they deleted this scene and with the Pope. They foreshadow Wick’s choice in the end. “Fortune favors the bold” and “Rules are meant to be broken”.
They should've kept this scene. Later on how Santiago comes to Continental for sanctuary cuz of the rule No business will be conducted in Continental grounds. Then John just comes & shoots him anyway breaking that rule. Showing the irony 🤣
The opposite is "tradition is the ally of progress." Traditions aren't just about the rules, but why we create them in the first place: Winston considers the spirit of the rules while Santino takes advantage of the word of the rules. It's why he gave Wick a head start after the end of the movie: the spirit of the rules is that the Continental is, by its very nature, a temporary stay, a reprieve from the brutal life of the Organization, but Santino had no intention of leaving the Continental and was still going to conduct his own business there - like putting out contracts on Wick. Even Winston can see that's just bullshit. Properly considered, tradition slows down the rush to move full speed ahead; if you stick to tradition despite the obvious benefits of moving onto a better way, you stagnate and instead of moving with the times, you're actually moving backward, but if you keep jumping to what's most efficient without using tradition to keep you grounded, you're moving with the flow without any sense of direction.
Why? It's a philosophical concept as old as Humanity itself...a Bound Dichotomy. Progressivism exists to prevent Humanity from stagnating in Traditionalism, and Traditionalism exists to prevent Progressivism from running off the rails for its own sake.
@@digitalis2977 but progressivism/materialism is and has run humanity off the rails and we're going to see the results of it well extreme results in the near future
That puts you on his side. And look how well that worked out for him. Those traditions were something he cowardly took advantage of in order to stay alive, all while sermonizing about how they needed to be cast aside for a greater future. It's almost poetic. Baba Yeager is coming for you SJW.
It's about balance. He was using it as a disguise to justify his craving for selfish power. People think they can just take take take and never have someone come to collect. Then John Wick shoots your dumbass on sacred ground after you ran like a bitch, after you forced him back into a life he gave his life to leave, blew up his house, forced to kill a friend/ your sister only to put you in power, then try to kill him for it to show force instead of just honoring the debt or un9derstanding hes retired not hired killer anymore. Dude...he's a sadistic psychopath. FUCK Satiago for that fucked up chess move. Fuck HIM!!!
And much like the people who say that, Santino didn't mean a damn word of it. He tried to advantage of those very traditions and rules to save his own skin. And he paid for it.
"rules are meant to be broken" the irony! this sentence turned to be a sentence on Santino, when John broke the Continental rules and shot him in there.

After watching The Continental you can understand why Uncle Charlie is such an in and out character
The Vatican scene I can understand cutting, but this is some valuable foreshadowing.
You can tell that Winston really hates this guy
I can see why they cut this. It didn't really further the plot in any way.
0:34 agent 47?
Rules are not meant to be broken, only on exceptions.
I wonder how many deleted scene are there that haven't been shown to the public.
Charlie grew a beard
But how did he do it in a week
I missed Charlie in Chapter 3... AND Aurelio.
Sometimes I don't agree, but this scene was right to be cut.
Santino's suits were so fly in this movie. Shame he was shot and wasn't brought into the next movie. I need outfit ideas.
I wish this hadn't been deleted.
These deleted scenes are even more thrilling 😮😮
Mr akoni owes a lot to John if u think about it 🤣🤣🤣
I think mr. Akoni was added in the movie to show that Gianna wasn't a good person, and John isn't doing a sin, assasinating her. Also the funny part is, mr. Akoni attended the ceremony of Santino at museum too in the movie, even though he was disrespected by both of the siblings 😂
Doesn't John Wick 2 take place like a week after 1? Apparently that's enough time for the Cleaner to grow a full beard from clean shaven, lol.
Brilliant lines. Great scene that is what 3 and 4 lacked
Why’s there so many dead body in the continental hotel?
Owen Bunny looks like a bar after a bloody take over
It’s not the Continental
Not in the Continental, it's after the bad guys takes over from his sister.
Question...is the "High Table" aware that the sister's death was commissioned by Santino? Wouldn't that be an issue?
Ryan Donovan who cares, they're dead.
No, his attorney.
Imagine if winston was the highest person at the high table but lives his life as a slave to it
It's easy to believe Winston was given at least one opportunity to gain a seat at the High Table.
@@samsonguy10k it seems he is no longer investigated by the judicator judging my the trailer it seems he has no choice but to help john wick
was...was that denzel? o.o
Bravo.. fai il bravo eh😂
where was the location? Rome after John killed his sister?
Charlie lookin like Santa
Is it a different cleaner?
Where are they?
Oh how those last lines ring true

"Tradition is the enemy of progress"
Didn't care for what he did in the movie😠
But the guy's dead-on here😒
Interesting scene but I’m not sure where it would’ve fit in the movie
It further shows how Santino is a dick and it looks like he just had more people killed.
#2 was better without this scene!
Holy shit is that Bill Nighy?
pricks getting cocky with John Wick don't end well. Just ask the Marquis de Gramont
Tradition is the enemy of progress or progress is the enemy of tradition 🤔. Great line and scene.
I believe what Winston meant was the true enemy towards progress is without Tradition.
Any guess how much Charlie would've gotten paid for his 10 seconds worth of appearance??
St. Devil a coin?
If you refer to the actor, he did get paid, because he did the work. The scene not being a part of the final film does not matter.
Looked like 3 Coins.
the 1:53 won't hurt
Traditionalism/nationalism vs progressivism/materialism is a big thing in the 20th and 21st century. Surprised to see that quote here
Glad they deleted it 🤣
Dude, your cards over the faces are bad.
Actually Santino was right when he said ''Tradition is the enemy of progress''
Without Tradition there would be no benchmark for "Progression". Its a Egg and Chicken thing.
Is this after a John Wick killing spree? Because I don’t remember this location
From the remarks about his sister and having to "blow some dust off" I'd say that was Santino purging folks. Possibly from his own organisation.
