One of my favourite Edwin moments was when he hit 3 HR in one game. Fans started throwing their hats on the field to celebrate his baseball hat trick, but Edwin, not knowing what a hat trick is, thought that the fans were for some reason upset
I saw Edwin impersonate Brooks Robinson with a omg play and follow it up with a soft 2 bouncer right to him that he threw 14 feet over joy vottos head into the 3rd row. He was one one of my all time favorites despite the glove
how did the jays pull two insane down and out, diamond in the rough players like Bautista and Encarnacion, literaly bums to top 10 hitters at their peak and each had turn arounds so late in their career. amazing
I joined my brothers long time AL only auction fantasy baseball league in 2011, I had a rough first year learning how the league worked. Nobody took me seriously. When I threw out Edwin Encarnacion at the 2012 draft, everybody looked at me confused. And when I got him for $1, I was confused, but elated. I had heard about the work he put in in the off season. Everyone laughed at me for targeting him in the draft. They don't laugh at me anymore. And I don't let them forget. That one pick 12 years ago has stuck in the minds of everyone who is still in the league from that draft. While Encarnacion has remained my biggest steal ever, I do have a knack for finding the diamond in the rough. And every year just by getting in on the bidding for a "scrub" here and there, people get paranoid that I've targeted the next Edwin Encarnacion and will pay way more than they're worth just to keep me from getting them.
Looking back Edwin also made less money not signing with the Jays originally, so both sides made the wrong decision in hindsight. (More so Edwin since Toronto was his city/he was an icon)
As a Reds fan, this has depressed me for years. If not for Walt Jockety’s terrible moves, the Reds could have had Votto, Encarnacion and Josh Hamilton in their primes.
The fun part of Encarnacion obviously declining in his two years with Cleveland is the fact that in order to overhaul his salary, they traded him and got All-Star 1B Carlos Santana from the Mariners. Both players hit 34 HRs that year, but Santana has a .911 OPS and 93 RBIs to .888 and 86 RBIs respectively. Mariners ownership wanted an older player so they could ship him off later so they could bring up Daniel Vogelbach. A white boy. The season after a woman got fired from the organization for quoting Mariners management saying Dominicans are dumb and lazy. Enjoy this remark on a joke franchise being the racist, joke franchise they've become.
Only a diehard blue jays fan would call EE a superstar - and that's what he was, not for just the consistent power, but for power hitting with few strikeouts (a rare hitting profile), which made him a clutch power hitter
With Votto at first base, and no DH in the National League, just not a spot for Edwin in Cinci. But if you remember, Edwin was a competent !B man when he when he played there.
@@joeyyoddler1656 yea, right before that he showed how the Jays had the 10th most wins in baseball but because they weren't in the top 2 of the DIVISION they couldn't make the playoffs (maybe I should've put the timestamp at 1:10 instead). @ being top 2 in the division means nothing for a playoff spot. Division winners get in and there were 2 wild cards. The jays didn’t make it. Not sure why you’re so angry about this
