    rawlings sandlot gloves are the go to glove for dads just lookin to play some catch with their kid. teaching their son to throw. if a dad doesn't still have his own glove from earlier years, the sandlot series makes for a good choice.

      I have an old Louisville Slugger Glove in a Heart Of The Glove series at 11.5 inches due to small hand size, more to the Rawlins Sure Catch style, the gray and black closed web design that was $30 at the time and now having used a Rawlins Sure Catch in almost the same design with a closed web only a size too small at 10.5 inches I can say the gloves feel almost the same with the same Genuine Pressed Leather glove only in the new Rawlins glove, the glove needs to be broken in as the glove does not have a built in padding/duel leather air padding system the Lewisville Slugger gloves had but instead uses several thicker leather/fake leather under layers in the palm as the padding. The one I borrowed was from a Cousins kid who plays and his glove felt good, only I had issues with the sizing is all being the counsins son, his old glove was too small for me just barely fitting. Cousins kid wanted practice with catching and breaking in a used glove got off e-Bay to fit his hands better not the previous owner so I was throwing the ball using his old glove, with me as about the only person who could even use the glove properly. Cousins Kid likes used gloves as they tend to be pre broken in for most of them unless really cheap gloves that will not break in due to the type of synthetic used like a vinyl, also he was using a better glove from Rawlins only used for $45 in an all brown Player Preferred Series in a 12 inch to 12.5 inch size for his hands of almost same web design as the Rawlins Sure Catch he had previous that is now $40 and for about the same quality to the old Louisville Slugger the pricing going up due to inflation is understandable. If I were to need a new glove I would try the Sure Catch if I could not find a Great shape of the Old Louisville Slugger Glove in a Heart Of The Glove series type glove off e-Bay for a reasonable price.

    @richardlangford4578 7 หลายเดือนก่อน +5

    I don’t think a lot of people wear an infield glove two in the pinky, it creates i bigger pocket, and has less range on fielding the ball. You ever stick your arm down to take a ground ball two in the pinky compared to traditional? You have more surface area in my opinion while wearing it traditional. I am pretty old, but my sons are 12 and I see them all wearing traditional on the infield and two in the pinky in the outfield. I guess what I’m trying to say is I don’t see the point in reviewing infield gloves two in the pinky, unless most kids wear their gloves this way now days.

    We had that Mizuno Franchise in a first base mitt, good for 1 year. That palm pad you're referring to breaks down fairly quickly and the ball will kill your hand if it's infielders that can throw at a fairly decent velocity. The laces will need replacing quickly as well. The only good thing about the mitt was that it was super light and easy to control. The older versions of the franchise gloves were made much better and lasted a lot longer.

    A lot of guys here in Germany buy the Sandlot as their first glove. Prices obviously get inflated over here because of import and we also don't get the wide selection you guys get in the States. They are nice gloves with decent leather that come in a wide range of patterns that most new players feel comfortable buying. They are usually easy to break in and the good patterns mean even a complete newbie won't screw the form up too much. The MVP Prime is also a favourite for a little more money when people want to upgrade after a couple of years.

It’s definitely not a2000 quality or stiffness but way better than the budget gloves I chose from. My nephew has an a2000 1786 ($219) that felt great but the hand stall was tiny. I went with a Rawlings HOH r2g 11.5 ($300 but I got it second hand from a young coworker for $120 and it was broken in 2 hinge with 2 in the pink the way I would have) for infield hardball and I couldn’t be happier with it.

    one thing Rawlings seems to do that a lot of other companies dont is when making cheaper gloves, the thickness of the leather increases as the quality becomes really soft, and they still use decent laces. other companies like Wilson and Marucci will use lower grain leather, but keep the same thickness, so they just dont feel as good, whereas Rawlings just feel more comfortable as they get cheaper

    • @deepzone31
      @deepzone31 7 หลายเดือนก่อน

      Good point on laces. It’s not as much of an issue at the kid level but I’ve seen that play out poorly at the adult league level when guys go cheap.

    • @baileysmith4744
      @baileysmith4744 7 หลายเดือนก่อน +1

      @deepzone31 . Shit gloves rely on laces so much. Give a kid a shit glove and tighten the laces at it will feel like a major league level glove. Thats why Wilson has caught a lot of shit recently, even on their pro gloves the laces are worse than Rawlings' budget gloves

    • @deepzone31
      @deepzone31 7 หลายเดือนก่อน

      @@baileysmith4744 I agree somewhat. The tighter laces is a different issue than weaker laces. There are definitely loosely laced gloves at the kid level that affect play. There are also other issues like kids not keeping a ball inside to maintain pocket that also hurt kids' performance. The 44 issue was the laces rupturing on a fairly new glove. I suspect the issue may be exclusive to the dyed laces but it requires more data to be sure.
      I'd like to hear more on the Wilson gloves. I wasn't aware of this. I had a 1799 A2000 that I used for outfield for probably 12 years that never had any issues with laces. I only had to tighten them up a couple of times. The endgame for that glove was the thumb stay and palm deteriorating. The laces outlasted the interior construction. :)

    • @baileysmith4744
      @baileysmith4744 7 หลายเดือนก่อน

      @deepzone31. Gonna make the point quick. Rawlings laces are elite even on cheap gloves, and they last a long time unlike other brands even on their high end gloves. When Rawlings cheap leather gets soft, tightening the laces gives the glove an amazing shape that will last and makes the glove feel better than it did when first bought.
      There really isnt much else to say about it

    You're killing me. I literally just bought and received a Wilson A700 (the same shown in this video) for my son, based on a previous recommendation in one of your videos, and now you trash the glove.
    No bueno.

    • @mdsmith1019
      @mdsmith1019 7 หลายเดือนก่อน +1

      That's rough! But still, I guess it depends on the level of play/age of your son. My son is 7 and played 7U rec ball this year with a Wilson A500. It was easy to squeeze and he got comfortable with it. The balls they use are squishy and they don't come out fast enough to "bully" the glove. If your son like the A700 you're in good shape.
      TLDR: BGK has a different philosophy of use for gloves than a young kid might. It's not that he is WRONG, but if your son likes the glove, that's really what counts.
