It's a testament to Chris that he can patiently sit back, listen earnestly to the conversation and the other three waxing poetic about the craft for an hour, and find the opportunity to destroy the room with one offhand line, "Does he do the whistle?"
11:45 A moment that is so revealing about both Jerry and Louis. Jerry is looking at it as something to forgive Louis for; when Louis, at literally the same time, is saying he (Jerry) was being mean and could have been nicer. Then HBO quick edit.
Agreed Jerry Seinfeld is from a different time. He's looking at the older guys who literally came up with 30 minutes of material and did it again and again for 20 years. In my mind the best comedians are truly artists. And like musicians they have to have a body of work. Doesn't have to be a new hour every year, but you have to have a discography, at least some different sets/specials/jokes as you move on. If you only have 30 minutes well then you are the same as a one hit wonder in the music world. We enjoyed that bit, but now you're done.
I agree with you, and yet, you have a very new attitude with regard to comedy. Usually the new is peppered in with the old. This only really changed industry wide in 2005.
I think it's harder to get started as a comedian and last today. You don't get as much of a chance to develop your craft while you suck because of, you guessed, TH-cam and video sharing. If a young comedian has a bit that is gaining traction and "goes viral" it'll be on the internet at some point during his trips up and down the road. Then there could be a buzz around a comedian that isn't ready for mainstream popularity. It kind of happened to Dane Cook when his career took off before he was good enough as a comic to handle it.
he seems slightly nervous & uncomfortable to me...he goes for his water every time he's in the middle of talking like a crutch. just chill man...how someone like him that can perform in front of thousands of people still get nervous is strange to me.
On a body language lvl Chris is totally being wipe off by the others, lack of respect or consideration for him, even though it's inconsciously, Chris felt it
32:58. There is something beautiful to be noticed here. The humility and beauty of a regular person recognizing the fact that people went out of their way to see them live. Comedians are real MF’s. They get it. We’re not special but we have something meaningful to say. Thank you for hearing it.
Only difference is that Carlin literally had a special every year while i don't think CK has done quite that. Though he is insanely gifted. Probably my favorite
@Daniel Clark yeah but he appeals to a larger audience. You can not even like standup and like Jerry Seinfeld but if you love standup you probably don't like Jerry Seinfeld.
Even when they're not telling jokes or laughing I love it. These guys are all famous for their perspective in one way or another which holds up the comedy. Steel in the walls.
it would seem , these guys each have a legit level genius: whether its Seinfeld (poss photographic memory ), Ricky intelligently challenges everything , Rock understands the fundamentals of everything, and Louis is Louis, lol.
That may have something to do with the way television and radio works in Britain. The BBC controls everything and if they don't like something, you're a virtual pariah when it comes to broadcasting anything outside of the internet. They are all about perfect production & organization and have pretty strict rules about how things should work. I think Ricky's apprehension over how he's being presented on telly has a lot to do with that sort've "indoctrination" from the BBC.
After watching this for the 4th the editing is really perfect. They know when their conversations are tailing off then immediately goes to the next punch
This comment brought out some early childhood feeling I haven't felt for a decade and a half, and it's also exactly perfectly how I feel about this video
This is such a great conversation because it feels honest. They are laughing at each other, disagreeing, saying things which obviously offend or annoy each other. Feels behind the scenes.
I think people saying Seinfeld acts like he's better than others don't get that when he says things like that, usually that itself IS a joke. You have to pay attention to tone and context. It's meant sarcastically.
***** He , along with Larry David created one of the most successful sit-coms in U.S. TV history ......If one uses $ as a measurement , he has achieved a level of success that puts him in a most unique catagory .

Ricky Gervais is honest and hilarious, so honestly the slander against him I don't understand lol ^^ but hey, to each their own. I love Ricky so I'm not annoyed by him
I forget how many times I've seen this. Never old
34:46🤣 Ricky and Louis's laugh after Chris asks "does he do the wistle?"
The chemistry between these guys got me dead!
I love Ricky's reflex response time to prevent one of TV's most potentially embarrassing moments: a "don't leave me hanging" hi-five from Chris Rock.
"And they're not that thrilled with it"
Still has me rolling
*Seinfeld intro starts playing*
The "tap danced over six laser beams" line is at 43:30, for those who came from the Chappelle analysis video.
I came from that video and watched the hole thing. It is amazing, give it a go :)
Thank you!!!!
OhManTFE np
what
Oh Waker Chappelle analysis video?
Thank you for posting, awesome roundtable
"I think of a joke as the minimum amount of words to get to a punchline." What a great line.
Norm: Am i a joke to you ?
I come back to this video almost every year and every time it changes my perspective on comedy...
elaborate
agreed! some words of wisdom in this video
+ItsameAlex I guess we gotta wait till next year..
Jim Schmim lol good one ;) and he said almost so it's probably every 1 and half years
Love this. Thank you for putting this online
These are all titans of standup, but can we agree that Louie is the unquestionable alpha here?
It's a testament to Chris that he can patiently sit back, listen earnestly to the conversation and the other three waxing poetic about the craft for an hour, and find the opportunity to destroy the room with one offhand line, "Does he do the whistle?"
comedians gotta comedian
I wish I got the reference.
@@willvr4 watch the video. its referencing the video
Omega Man it’s referencing the song
Never could understand that joke can you explain plz?
"You're making me do my act in front of the 3 top comedians in the world" Louis C.K. is so humble
I can't believe I only just discovered this. It's one of the most amazing things I've ever seen!
11:45 A moment that is so revealing about both Jerry and Louis. Jerry is looking at it as something to forgive Louis for; when Louis, at literally the same time, is saying he (Jerry) was being mean and could have been nicer. Then HBO quick edit.
Very underrated comment! This is the attitude that makes Jerry insufferable to me
34:59 Ricky going for the high five from Chris, sees it's not there, quick pivot into a knee slap. That's why he makes the big bucks.
Omg you're so right! Haha amazing
A little brent moment there
He's a machine!
Damn what a pro
I thought no one else caught that hahaha, yeah man I watched a couple times just to be sure if that was indeed what it seemed to be.
Dave Chappelle would of been the icing on the cake.
+camq0789 Hes there m8
Yessss
+Frank Lampard Is Jesus Not True this is long after.
+camq0789 Do you realize that saying "would of been" is incorrect?
***** Oh man you must be an English scholar.
This is a good one. It’s like my dad and his brothers discussing who’s the best at fly fishing.
I've watched this 15 times...never gets old
I'd be so fucking annoyed if I went to see a comedian and he was doing the same shit from 10 years ago
We enjoyed that bit, but now you're done.
wes... are you joking?? no comedians keep the same material for that long anymore. that's ridiculous.
It kind of happened to Dane Cook when his career took off before he was good enough as a comic to handle it.
that's not what he said. He said the oldest parts of his sets are ten year olds and he takes out the bottom 10% regularly, it's evolving
Too bad Chris Rock got cut off so many times just as he was about to explain something.
he seems slightly nervous & uncomfortable to me...he goes for his water every time he's in the middle of talking like a crutch. just chill man...how someone like him that can perform in front of thousands of people still get nervous is strange to me.
He has a lot of esteem for these comedians, and rightly so, these are some of the best comedians out there right now.
On a body language lvl Chris is totally being wipe off by the others, lack of respect or consideration for him, even though it's inconsciously, Chris felt it
i didn't feel this at all the one who was awkward af was the brit. i think jerry is closer to chris irl than he is to the other guys.
yeah i don't think thats true. ricky was cutting everyone off
32:58. There is something beautiful to be noticed here. The humility and beauty of a regular person recognizing the fact that people went out of their way to see them live. Comedians are real MF’s. They get it. We’re not special but we have something meaningful to say. Thank you for hearing it.
Dude can’t believe I found this gem. This is so inspiring.
I rewatch this video about as often as Jerry thinks about white porn vs. black porn
Tis Cayea I come back often as well
That’s also how I measure time.
Tis Cayea what lol
I wish Dave Chappelle was there too
Dave is never totally 'there' lately..
Gervais couldn't handle Chappelle being there, too smart too fast too real.
@@dictater2 LOL, Ricky is not slower or faker than Dave Chappelle. Get real.
None of them wish he was there.
now, now. they both have their strengths. @@cedricwilliams6229
Ricky Gervais laughs like the cast of Monty Python pretending to be old ladies.
Ben Janes Thata oddly accurate
I wan't to smuther him when he does his fake laughter.
@@petesmith9475 fake laughter.. hmm so ricky gervais never laughs really.. what an unfunny person

Out of all the things you could quote from this 49-min-piece...
As witnessed by Chris Rock
louis throws out his hour everyyear and start from scratch he got that from george, we love you louis
Only difference is that Carlin literally had a special every year while i don't think CK has done quite that. Though he is insanely gifted. Probably my favorite
@@filiporvik2782 Louie doesn't have the work ethic and he also has ADD. Not because Louie is less gifted
@@nad1ax2 Doesn't have the with ethic? Quality over quantity is a choice.
@@nad1ax2 The guy has produced 37 films, wrote Louie, wrote for Horace and Pete, and wrote for various shows/late night shows for years.
@Daniel Clark yeah but he appeals to a larger audience. You can not even like standup and like Jerry Seinfeld but if you love standup you probably don't like Jerry Seinfeld.
Masters discussing their craft. Really cool to watch.
I like how they always heckle each other a bit, it makes the conversation really divers and fruitful.
I would always listen to anyone who is good at their job talk about their job. This is a fascinating conversation.
Even when they're not telling jokes or laughing I love it. These guys are all famous for their perspective in one way or another which holds up the comedy. Steel in the walls.
Imagine if Norm was a part of this conversation!
you're mean.
I didn't even know he was sick!
He would ruin it in purpose, and they'd have to record it again next week without him
He'd have more insights than any of them but wouldn't want to be serious enough to discuss it for long
Ya, he wouldn’t be
“Does he do the whistle?” I always come back to this video for that.
it would seem , these guys each have a legit level genius: whether its Seinfeld (poss photographic memory ), Ricky intelligently challenges everything , Rock understands the fundamentals of everything, and Louis is Louis, lol.
The only flaw in this show was that it was edited down to 49 min.
Would be far better without the British dude interrupting and disagreeing. He adds nothing.
Ricky said the uncut version was like 3 hours. Hopefully the full thing comes out eventually
Mel Bee eh I don't know though. British media seems a lot looser with what they can say, atleast as far as panel shows go
jaim haas Ricky Gervais is hilarious
24:41 "He wrote it last week" LMAO CHRIS ROCK
That was an underappreciated line for sure.
He grew up roasting each other every single day. Gervais knew it was a joke
I wish they did more of these. I've watched this like 100 times.
After watching this for the 4th the editing is really perfect. They know when their conversations are tailing off then immediately goes to the next punch
I feel like I'm staying up watching my dad and his buddies talking downstairs...this is awesome
I didn't know how to word what I was feeling until now
If that's the case, you have indeed lived a great family life
This comment brought out some early childhood feeling I haven't felt for a decade and a half, and it's also exactly perfectly how I feel about this video
Damn, that's probably what my buddy's kids are doing haha
Which one is your dad?
You can gauge how funny Ricky finds something by how many times he repeats the punchline.
Very philosophical at times. Fantastic conversation.
This was amazing. Such a complimentary crew
This is such a great conversation because it feels honest. They are laughing at each other, disagreeing, saying things which obviously offend or annoy each other. Feels behind the scenes.
well a few of them were downing drinks later lol
Cope harder. This was shit and i hate ricky gervais now. Annoying.
Further proof the british should be destroyed
Chris Rock calling Louis the niggerest white man I know is friends speaking friends
Louis understanding of the Corvette analogy was brilliant 🤣
I can watch this over and over and over...
I've never heard Jerry laugh that sincerely. Two laughs, and it goes from pity laugh to straight hopping the fence into full-on cackling.
Watch jerry on jimminy glick
If Ricky was in a wheelchair this would look like an episode of Family guy
I wouldn't say so. He seemed to be the centre of attention for more than 1/4 of the time. Chris Rock has been left out and spoken over the most.
What's the joke then?
Judah Lewis Or if he was a dolphin 🐬 😂🤣
why do you find this banter comical then?
Louis ck as quagmire..... because he likes to whip it out
L: "What was your first bit?"
R: "I know it really well."
C: "He wrote it last week!"
Damn that was good!
*first good bit
You messed up the whole joke :v
I am always here revisiting this video... every year it seems.
Wait.. What? Those 4 legends together? It's 10 years ago but I am I still happy as hell.
I think people saying Seinfeld acts like he's better than others don't get that when he says things like that, usually that itself IS a joke. You have to pay attention to tone and context. It's meant sarcastically.
yep exactly.
***** He , along with Larry David created one of the most successful sit-coms in U.S. TV history ......If one uses $ as a measurement , he has achieved a level of success that puts him in a most unique catagory .
martialimitator I've seen him do some really arrogant shit in the past, from what I've heard he's quite the snob.
He definitely has that tone about him, just part of his personality. He was an innovator and he knows it.
martialimitator yeah, like Howard Stern proclaiming himself The King Of All Media, pretty clever shit!
I don't know why I scrolled down. I'll scroll back up now.
Hah, you made me snort.
Thanks for that. You inspired me to go no further, and now I can remain in a positive mood.
me too!
LOL I read this then I scrolled up. And I was like who the fuck is that guy I can do whatever I want lol. You played with my feelings
I don't know why you felt compelled to steal this post from another video and then post it on another video (verbatim).
Oh, that's right. Your life is an empty void if you're not receiving likes on TH-cam.
They’re so funny and so comfortable with each other, and I could be comfortable too if I had pants like that.
Ricky's laugh is so good. One of a kind :D
Jerry had a flashback to Kramer tanking his career when they all started dropping N-Bombs. He wasn't touching that shit with a 10-foot pole.
@Kenny Strawser Hell no. He was thinking about his bank account and was shooketh
@Kenny Strawser well maybe he is just not old enough yet)
The line of this video that I think sums it up is when Louis C.K asking Ricky Gervais, "Why are you so upset? It's just funny."
where was that line pls?
anne yvette It's at 30:57, just about.
Gervais has a real need to justify himself and his comedy intellectually, as if comedy is a science. It isn't, its an art.
John Reynolds
Science is an art as well.
John Reynolds A good portion of the comedy though was to talk about their differences to each other, and that's just one of the ways that Gervais does his comedy.
Four amazing and important minds. Great conversation.
Omg!!! I love this!!! Love to see more of this!!!
Ricky Gervais is a fuckin riot. Love the way he messes with people
