Sam and David, two of the "Colombians by adoption" with greater tenacity that I have met. I follow you for many years for serious, authentic, and reliable. It seems admirable that in our country you have walked through all corners, have slept in high and low strata, have eaten in rich and poor sites, and have always accommodated what you find without pretensions or false expectations. You have taught us to know and love a country with their pros and cons. From the heart, I hope you succeed in everything you undertake. ¡God bless you!
Great vid. Also hi David :) I've always been interested in retiring in the Medellin area but Colombia doesn't seem to have a visa that offers permanent residency like Equador does (unless you are uber rich?). But I'm not nearly as interested in Ecuador. Ah well, I've still got a decent number of years before I have to retire - things might change. I've always lived in satellite cities of big cities rather than the city itself, so I'm more interested in places like Rionegro etc. than downtown Medellin.
Hey, Sam, Just one small question, I am stumped? Are you six foot eight, or is David five foot three? LOL, I love David, my wife and I subscribe to this channell
Medellin is currently not only the best city in Colombia to live, but also one of the best in all of Latin America. The best thing about Medellin is that it is better every year and that is something very commendable since, for example, Bogota, Cali and Cartagena are in decline in security and positioning, Medellin is now a city of global stature and even surpasses Bogota in terms of international consulates.
It was nice to see a new channel pop up in my feed and really enjoyed this. Then I went to the description to see links and saw the word ‘feardemic’. Guessing you didn’t have a friend or family member get horribly sick, in the ICU or die in the past few years. Glad for you. But for someone like me with an 80 yr old mother who has asthma and an autoimmune condition, it was horrifying and nothing to joke about. Let me know if I’m wrong about your word conveying sarcasm and contempt. Otherwise, I truly hope you never have to face your own or loved ones’ mortality. Wow. It really comes across as selfish and uncaring about others, the very sentiments I’ve had to protect my mother from.
In Costa Rica the government had their hand in attracting the extranjeros and driving the prices up 20 yrs ago. Panama is experiencing the same now with their government programs for retirees. Hopefully Colombia doesn’t adopt the same playbook.
This is probably why the Colombian government made so many changes to the visa laws. There literally driving many foreigners out who have been there for years. Making everything more expensive and the salaries don’t rise for the locals is a real disaster for the future. I know a for retiree who been there for years now because of the new requirements there being forced to leave Colombia. It’s makes sense that they need to protect the people of the country from crazy economic expansion that none can afford
love these video conversations, keep up the good work. Sam can you tell us your story about what happened when the pandemic came and you had to leave and also get your visa renewed. How was that period and what made you return to colombia permanently again?

Lots of insight from you two here in this video. I share your sentiments about Colombia. The first place I've been to where I really thought I want to retire in and actually started steps to do it. Based off of what I see, I see Colombia really trying to protect its culture from too much foreigner influence. As far as what has changed in the last 7 years, I'm really shocked neither of you have mentioned the increase in petty (and not so petty) crime targeting foreigners. I have seen a marked increase in crimes actually targeting vacationers. Lots of opportunity there and looking forward to more in this area. One thing I do hope for is that in all their organization, they make it a little bit easier for people who want to really integrate into their culture and become expats. It's a bit of a bear right now.
I guess we don't live in fear and have always accepted risk when doing dodgy things in Colombia. Consider neither of us seem to do super dodgy shit it's even less relevant for us.
@@SamMillerLife Meh. I take your point. But I’m referring to people more being targeted coming straight from the airport, or sitting in restaurants eating etc. There has been an increase…. If you’ve ever seen any of David’s videos you will see him constantly looking over his shoulder…. Especially when motos can be heard. Again. I’m raising it only as an oddity.

Ya lo hacen, creame que con las noticias que han salido los ultimos meses sobre la corrupcion en la policia, no es tan dificil sobornar a un policia con los sueldos que reciben.

Much appreciated Pax. You've been apart of a great journey and I think we are only just getting started ☺
Welcome back Sam! Getting back to basics and what you do best! Good to see! Keep it up.
Another great video. I actually lived right by the entrance to Pueblito Paisa and would take that walk almost daily.
Beautiful setup there.
Good Sam, good job.
@Sam you showed me that it's possible to be an entrepreneur in Colombia with your videos several years ago. Thanks
Love to hear that man. Just watch out when taking outside investment and partners 😉

Rionegro es muy aislado, te recomiendo envigado, sababeta o la estrella.

It's a very tricky situation
Yeah, I lived on Naos Island off of the Amador. Rents are up 50% in the past few years. It’s ridiculous.

The solutions are worse than the problem.
Offer a solution and stop blaming others. A lot of the complaining sounds more like xenophobia.
Time to bring real money into the country. Forget Costa Rica. We’re gonna turn it into Bangkok.

I don't think so....
Love the video. You two are the best. Truth & honesty. All the Best.
