    Just had my right knee replacement and started watching videos on the after care and how to get better sleep. The ice pack machine is definitely my best friend. I am doing pt at home and next week I start outpatient therapy. Still evaluating this whole process to help others in the future because people rely on other people’s experiences to help get through the process. My left knee will be done on 4 to 5 months as well. Love your videos and thank you for posting to help me through my experience 💞

      Thank you for watching, glad the videos are helpful. Best of luck in your continued recovery and I hope you will also be able to be a big help to others going through the knee replacement journey in the future.

    As a retired PT, I must say your series is very good, and helpful! I had my L knee done in February, and the R just 4 days ago. Both at an outpt surgical setting. Check in at 6 am, and out by 4 pm. Not having to do a hospital stay was wonderful. I fully agree each surgery is different and so present different challenges and successes as one moves through the healing process. Thanks for a very helpful video! 👍🏻😀

    My personal experience...My pain last for 8 months....My pain greatly decreased starting at 6 months..At my 1 year post op benchmark...I am between 85 to 90 % normal..I am optimistic that I will reach 100%.

      Thank you for sharing, yes this is very normal for the pain to last many months and slowly get better over time. I am hopeful too that you achieve those last few percents of recovery!

    Bless you for this series! Your down to earth, conversational manner is putting me at ease and answering my questions about what to expect from my upcoming surgery. QUESTION: How long do your patients who have used opioids long term for other pain (like back pain) experience pain after knee replacement? My surgeon is telling me I may have up to double the recovery time. Wondering what you have seen?

    • @KneeReplacementTherapists
      @KneeReplacementTherapists  2 ปีที่แล้ว +3

      Hi Sue, glad the videos are helping. Good questions, there is definitely going to be a wide variability in terms of how long people have pain after surgery. If you have a history of chronic or significant pain, or long-term opioid use, you are at higher risk for having prolonged/persistent pain after surgery. However, it is important to know that even for individuals who have a straightforward recovery, the pain can still be present many months after surgery... usually the intensity of pain varies and it becomes more episodic than constant once you are a few months out from surgery. Understand that recovery after surgery is a marathon and not a sprint, it may take 6 months to a year to feel fully recovered. Also, I recommend focusing on multiple modes of pain management. This includes icing, elevation, massage, stretches and exercises, mindfulness strategies, and more. I hope this helps!

      This is not abnormal. In most circumstances the pain continues to diminish with time. Continue to use multiple modes of pain management as per the advice of your surgeon, and physiotherapist.

    I am at 8 months post op from my right TKA. I am still having that stiffness and pain. It is manageable with ice, rest, and OTC pain meds. But this is normal. My surgeon told me that it takes a very long time to heal. He told me about 1.5 years. I walk a lot, ride bikes, and swim without any restrictions and this causes the irritation. My joint stability is very good after surgery. I am confident the pain will go away eventually.

      Exactly what my orthopedic surgeon told me Mike, it's a year to a year and a half to fully heal, I'm 7 months post op from my left TKR surgery and five weeks today post op from my right TKR surgery, it's a long, slow healing process, just eat a good nutritious balanced diet Mike and continue the ice and PT exercises, it's a month by month healing process and this is temporary where if you didn't have the surgery, you'd be in pain for the rest of your natural life so this is the only way and going to be so worth it, good luck and best wishes on your healing journey brother!

      With my first knee replacement two years ago, I was pain-free after four months and could do anything. I just had my other knee done last month and all the pain is back! I hope I only have to wait four months again! Eight months seems like a lot of time to me to still have pain. I hope yours heals faster!

    I am one week out from my second knee replacement, and still in severe pain when I’m not using ice and Narcotics. My nerve block wore off right after recovery so that was a waste. Bottom line its about 2 weeks before the SEVERE pain goes

    I’m 19 months out on 1st TKR and 16 months since last…both knees hurt exact same place and same level of pain-I’m at about an 8 on pain scale…I have rom and mobility is fine but it’s never relieved. I wish the intensity and duration would just stop. I rub them and ice them and don’t take hardly any pain med. so by the end of the day I don’t want to see or talk to anyone. I now wish I’d never done this.

      I’m really sorry you’re going through this. Persistent pain after knee replacements can be incredibly tough, especially when it feels like there’s no relief in sight. It’s understandable to feel frustrated and overwhelmed. Even though you’re managing your range of motion and mobility, the ongoing pain can take a toll on your well-being. Sometimes a reassessment can help identify underlying issues or adjust your treatment plan. Wishing you strength and hoping you find some relief soon.

    • @1KAP

      @@KneeReplacementTherapistsThank you. I know it’s the fascia and nerves but there’s really no relief…many have said just ride a bike (recumbent) and it’ll get better. They both feel the same afterwards so I really don’t understand why riding bike would help, tho I understand the glutes and thigh muscles stretching. I pray a lot and try not to take meds. since there’s nothing that works. Meds after surgery barely touched any of this. 😢

I just had my other knee done a month ago and it’s painful but gradually getting better and I’m hoping it will continue and only last four months again! There must be something wrong for your knee to still be hurting 4 years! Get another opinion!
