    Oh the shrunken crisp packets ! The craze for badge 'miniatures' was when I was about 12-14 years old. I can remember making miniature bread badges ,I think out of flour and water dough maybe. Baking it and glazing it when cold with clear nail polish. I suspect it might have started( or at least been featured) on that kids show called 'why dont you ....?'. Id completely forgotten about that until you jogged my memory!

    Hello, Vivi. We didn’t do the crisp package badges but we did cut out and color pieces of cake domes that were PETE to make suncatchers for the windows. You punched a hole in your design and popped it in the oven for a minute. Just regular coloring marker pens were used.

    My present house is 300 yards round the corner from a small parade of shops. When I moved in 15 years ago there was a chemists, an 'Express' supermarket, a hairdressers, a fish and chip shop, and a hardware store. My brother said I had everything I needed there! Sadly the hardware shop is now a coffee shop, and the hairdressers is an estate agents branch, and I don't like fish and chips - well I don't mind the chips but the portions are too big for me and expensive - but I do love the smell. I sometimes make my own "oven" chips by cutting up potatoes or sweet potatoes and spraying them with oil, but only if the oven is on for other things and only once in a while. They are a far cry from the chips we used to have when I was small, when the fat was kept in the chip pan for weeks on end (not only yuk, but now known to increase the saturated fat content). I don't remember the shrinking crisp wrappers craze but if it was 80's then I was too busy being a new mum. I did laugh when you said dvdvdvd because we do that in our family - we also say crisps-pss-pss-pss. In actual fact we mess around with words quite a lot - swapping letters around etc. and playing with rhymes. "Rice is nice, and pasta is fasta, but breakfast is usually muesli".

    • @WhatVivididnext
      @WhatVivididnext  13 วันที่ผ่านมา +1

      Ach, it's such a shame when the useful shops disappear for coffee shops and estate agents......I love my local hardware/ironmongers...I'd have been lost without them over the years. Re the words.....as a kid I always said Bunner Reans for the long green beans. 😉

    • @angelanewman5566
      @angelanewman5566 12 วันที่ผ่านมา +1

      Our chippy also serves up ridiculously huge portions of chips, but I portion the excess into spare plastic takeaway boxes and freeze them. They don't take very long to heat through in the microwave or air fryer. I don't have a very large appetite, so can usually get two or three extra portions from the one lot, and they're still perfectly acceptable.

  • @ellieb3930
    @ellieb3930 12 วันที่ผ่านมา +2

    Fish and chips are my takeaway of choice but strictly a treat, perhaps once a month if that. I love gurnard so I always get that for my fish. The brooches made from chippy packets fad didn't make it to New Zealand, or at least I hadn't heard of it being done.
    I didn't gel with Girl, Woman, Other at all. I'm not sure what it was about it that didn't appeal now as it's been a couple of years since I read it. My current read is Wilding by Isabella Tree, which is a fantastic read, and next up will be Orbital by Samantha Harvey.

    Random factoid, it was the late Lynne Faulds Wood who campaigned for plugs to come fitted on electrical appliances and successfully changed legislation. ⚡⚡

      It's fab that appliances all come with plugs now.....I just wish they were the old style removable ones. 😉 Ps.....I love a random factoid! 😁

    Hahaha! All those things we did as kids, all over the “civilized” world. We were experimenting, perhaps they were actually clever activities. So much better than pushing tabs with your thumbs. I have seen some of those activities shown on Pinterest as things to teach children! Still! And don’t get me started on those waste of time TV shows. Do they think we aren’t intelligent to get the show without all those prompts and replays? Ugh! I dislike TV so much.

      There’s a whole instant gratification thing at play I think. I see it in my nephews and their friends sometimes, everything is so fast for them. Whereas when I was growing up I would spend hours on just one thing.
      Could this be why tv programming is that way? Almost like, hey look up from your phone/ game I’m still here, the program you were watching, you missed this while you were not paying attention!

    Rewire a plug! Don't be daft. Kids of today just throw it away. LOL We had Smiths crisps, in fact we still do, and yes, we used to shrink down our packets. We didn't make broaches though. We would put a hole in the corner and hang them on our pencil cases and our school bags. I remember hiding the empty packets until mum was out because she hated us putting them in her oven. Funny how even on the other side of the world kids were doing the same things. That was around the time kids here were yo-yo crazy. By the way, the new bags don't work.

    I just stopped back after being gone from the channel for a while. I gather that you have a buyer for the flat, but the sale takes a while to finalize?
    Do you have another property picked out? Or do you have to wait until this one is final?
    Its always a tricky transition, isn't it?
    Good to see your cheery self again! i’ve subscribed.
