    Jagdeep nailed that part.. the best deterrent is to prove them wrong. Jumping up and down and getting tied up in court is generally a waste of your time.. heads down.. grind out those products and get cars on the road using your batteries and proving your product works.. and you win. As an engineer myself I really enjoy to listen to a knowledgeable person with passion in his field. on the other side if I have to listen to a car salesman or an agent of an insurance company, i want to punch them in the face. this was great. not wasted time at all. especially the graph of the timeline with the milestones looked very plausible. i think it is a great development. and at the end we get real world 600km instead of real world 300km of range for the at least the same price. (well, when i talk about real world range, I talk aber 130km/h. I don't drive the full range with 75km/h, that would be insane).
    also with 400-500Wh/kg we will see short distance electric flights too. what a great future :-)

    I don't disagree with this technology being promising. However calling their batteries solid state because they contain a nonometer level solid state separator, but still contain gels, is like saying that a cup of tea is a cup of sugar, because it was sweetened with a couple of sugar cubes. For my mind this is a solid state hybrid battery, a semi-solid-state battery if you will.
    Rather than naming your product after something it is not, simply to benefit from the favourable conatations associated with the name. The better way would be to call your product something else and explain why that something else is good in its own right.
    Any company that misleads in the very categorisation of their primary product, earns my skepticism right off the bat. But, I will give them the benefit of the doubt, as they did offer some interesting insights. Great interview Sandy, you were fair, and unbiased, and were unafraid of asking some tough and pointed questions.

    I don’t own any shorts or anything like that on QS, but I wish Sandy would have asked some more difficult questions like “what is your number 1 challenge in scaling your tech?”. This guy came across as way more reserved and humble, but many things he said were along the lines of what Trevor Milton said. It’s obvious he tried to downplay the challenge to scale their tech. And the legit question is will this tech improve and scale fast enough to compete with traditional li-ion chemistry which is on a clear path to reduce costs and improve performance by a large percentage over the next 5 years.

    • @silverback3633
      @silverback3633 3 ปีที่แล้ว

      I am thinking the same. His timeline of scaling speaks for itself. It is sitting at present for a while. Elon proved it with 7000 laptop batteries a BEV is doable. Why not he show a demo BEV with those prototype satchels he has? No wonder shorts are seeing another Theranos in the making.

    As someone who spent sometime in the design arena, you have to learn engineer-speak to communicate to get the job done. To hear two engineers not only talk about this highly technical subject matter but to make it not so lofty that the non-technical can understand it is a gift.

    Amazing interview! I am an electrical engineer but I’m not working in the field of batteries. However Ifund it verry important and interistin. This interview was really amazing with lots of interesting details. It really filled in some of the gaps for me about the state of the art in solid state battery development. Thanks Jagdeep's and Sandy! I would probably even go so far as to say this is the best video on solid-state batteries I’ve seen in the last three years.

    fascinating early look into the technology! honestly surprised how much he openly disclosed. I wonder if they have patent on the seperator material.. I'd imagine just knowing its a flexible ceramic gives some folks out there an idea of the composition of the clay. once one units out there, i'd imagine they fear it being reverse engineered, both the ceramic portion as well as the gel. I really enjoyed this and all of the long form conversations frankly. I am no engineer but must be engineering minded because everything you talk about makes sense to me and I find it very interesting. he and the team there clearly know this stuff inside and out and have tried all the other ways and know how and why they failed. it'll be interesting to see if everyone else tries to chase them. Vw money will make sure these guys are around for the next few years at least, hope it works as they intend to with scaling going well!
