The primary way to determine if an air conditioning system needs to be charged is with two pressure gauges. We have a high pressure side of the system and a low pressure side. If the system is not cooling as it should and both gauges read low, that’s a very good indication they system is low. Once we have identified any leaks, then we recover the refrigerant. You may have heard it called “freon”, but that is a generic brand name. The refrigerant is a greenhouse gas, so we don’t release it into the atmosphere, we recover it. With no refrigerant in the system we make any repairs such as a hose, compressor, or expansion valve replacement. Once the repairs are made, we evacuate the system. We only want refrigerant, oil, and a small amount of dye in the system. By evacuating or putting the system under a vacuum, we remove air and other contaminates. Depending on the depth of the repair, we will evacuate typically anywhere from 10 minutes to 45 minutes. Once the evacuation is complete, we charge the system with refrigerant. If we try to charge it by the pressure readings, we will not be accurate. Slightly too much and we can damage the compressor. Slightly too little and we can damage the compressor. We charge the system with a precision scale. There is a weight specification for each vehicle which will give us the right amount of refrigerant for optimal operation. - ยานยนต์และพาหนะ

Is there a way for the average person to tell if the AC just needs to be charged or if the compressor is bad? I've had my car since 2008 and never charged the AC and never had issues. Also, it was very quick to get cold and it would get VERY cold. Then, I noticed about a week ago that it was taking longer than normal to get cold, but it still did get cold. Then, one morning, I turned it on and it was just blowing out warm air. It's not making any weird noises or anything. It's just blowing out warm/hot air. Thank you.
If your in Arizona please don’t go to this shop young guy who attended me I ask him for a oil change yes is my fault I should of checked but I was with my son 2 years old btw my daughter 3 years old n my 2 nefue one is 5 the other 7 they where driving me nuts it was one of those days I just wanted to get out of there by the time i realized I notice that my car still said oil change so I went back the next day by myself n ask another guy that i was here yesterday bla bla n y my car still say that he said cuz the guy who did the job most likely didn’t program the miles inside the car so I ask him if he can do it he was real rude n said I can’t u have to check with the guy who did it so I did came back few hours later n seen the guy who did my oil change the day befor n told him hey u remember me u didn’t program my miles inside the car idk bout car so I’m telling him what his co worker told me earlier he got offended n told me I did that’s on u ur suspose to check ur car he try charging me for another oil change so I got mad n left bad service he try to claim that I needed another oil change n that he didn’t remember me susposly 🤦♂️

Hi Rick, when u said after u vacuumed it, then u charge the system back up, do u mean with the Fresh refrigerant or with the Old refrigerant but u add up a bit with the fresh one to reach the correct weight of refrigerant as instructed by the manufacturer ?
All professional machines recycle refrigerant so there will be a combination of virgin refrigerant and fresh refrigerant in the same tank.
My 2019 F250 ac recently started blowing warm. The didn’t notice anything visually wrong with the system. I put gauges on and I had 5 psi and the low side and 265 on the high side. Can’t imagine this would be a low refrigerant situation. Any thoughts on what those pressure could indicate??
Sounds like an expansion valve issue.
