1958 MGA Restoration 32c Shakedown Cruise Complete

- First shakedown cruise is done, and without issues! Oil pressure is great, running temp is about 185, transmission has no whines or shimmies, and though brakes feel MUCH different than my daily driver's, they work well. I thought putting the steering wheel on made me over the moon, this first test drive launched me out of the solar system :)
I have seat heaters and a few other minor things to do still, but I could drive this car to Washington DC or Baltimore and back, and be happy with the result.
And the exhaust sounds like a symphony to me :) - ยานยนต์และพาหนะ
What a beaut. Makes me pine for my long gone MGA.
It's gorgeous! This has brought back so many memories for me. I found my MGA abandoned on a farm with cats living in it in 1981, as I was finishing HS. First car I ever bought. I had to take it right down to the frame and redo everything. It took me 5 years (summers only being in my Mum's unheated garage in Canada) during my undergrad to rebuild it. Still have it today and drive it all the time (except Dec-Feb) and just now pulling the engine for it's first rebuild in nearly 40 years. I hope you enjoy yours as much I've enjoyed mine :) Well done and congratulations!
That's a really heartwarming story - I hope mine will last as long as yours has :) My MG doesn't normally have the "standard" windshield, so taking it out during potential weather events is a no-go, as I have no top with it. Still, the journey in getting her finished was rewarding in and of itself!
Ive been watching your videos from the start and loved them..
THANKYOU from Australia!
One of my all time favorite MGA builds - really incredible work
Thank you :) I have some refinements still left :)
Dude, I have a 58 A as well. I know how you feel. Your modifications are spot on. There is no driving experience like an MGA, you can feel it, hear it and smell it. You should be proud, you did a hellava restoration!
Nice! These are pretty unique little cars, that's for sure
Mate, being that I am on the other side of the world, I doubt we will ever meet but I had to tell you that... it is stunning!
Thanks :)
THIS is the video I've been watching and waiting for! Dude, *SO stoked for you! Enjoy!
Believe me, I'm just as stoked! I made a special, unique opening for this video that sat, unused, for far too long. Freakin thrilled that I'm finally at this point!
Great job and congratulations! I have been watching your videos re-building my 1961. Cannot wait for the shake down as well.
Thank you :) I appreciate the kind words
Beautiful!
Thank you for the kind words :)
Great looking MGA Navy Vet
I appreciate the compliment!
Beautiful MGA. My favorite classic car of all time. Such beautiful lines. A hearty congratulations on a simply Stunning restoration. Question: Do you know why the British don’t make computers? Answer: They can’t figure how to make them leak oil. Boom boom.
Thank you! I hope if you ever see it in person, you'll say the same thing :)
Awesome to see this! Your videos inspired me to finally take the leap on my car. I bought an MGA to build about two years ago. We had a major unplanned remodel due to a broken water pipe, but I am getting ready to resume my project. Wish me luck!
That's great news! This car definitely taught me a lot and was always a labor of love (except when blowing freeze plugs). Good luck on yours and feel free to reach out if needed
I just bought one for 1500 , it’s horrible but I think it’s worth twice the money. Hopefully I can get to it soon.
Sounds like it is running nicely. Hopefully I will not be far behind you.
I hope I can offer experience/wisdom to assist :)
Beautiful! Congratulations!
Thank you! Your positive comment brings me happiness :)
Gruuuube! It’s beautiful!!
Huuuuuuuge!!!!!
Great work.. Enjoy it...!!
Thank you! I have a few things left, but it's been a joy to drive so far :)
Been watching. You did a nice job on this.
Thank you :) I appreciate the kind words
What you did with the front end... GORGEOUS!
...the whitewalls (?) well er, uh ...but she's beautiful
Thanks for being polite with the "well, er" :)
@@christos7440...cool valve cover too
...I had a '62 1.6 factory coupe WAY back when and I still miss it
congrats
Thank you! It's been a journey for sure
awesome
Thank you! I appreciate the thumbs up :)
Great job. Love the windshield. Did you have to adjust the seat hight to sit below the windshield?
No way to adjust - the line is about mid forehead for me
However, I have another windshield that I'll install for winter driving (I have a hardtop)
Hi Christo did you convert it to 12V or kept it with the 6V electrical?
I replaced the generator with a negative earth alternator. I thought they were all native 12 V though?
Just perfect. Which colour is this?
If you're a Chevy buff, it's called Elkhart Blue. Mercedes, VW and Audi have different names. I'll provide the paint code if you'd like
@@christos7440 If you have the paint code I would be weary grateful. I`m considering buying one which is under restoration where I can choose the color.
@@TheEirik5 the recipe is the same, but the paint codes are different per manufacturer: PPG#949286, or GS7/WA625D
Thank you. This is really helpfull. One more question. Whitch exhaust system do you use? Sounds nice, a little more sport sound than original. Thanks for your efford to reply these questions.
Great video but loose the music and just enjoy the sound of the car.I had 3 MGAs 59 twin cam 60 1600 and 59 always had a soft spot for the A.🍷🎶🏎
Look for the next video - same as this, but sans music
Nice car, but unfortunately the Federal Exhaust Gas Control Ordinance and the Transport Tourism Emission Restriction Federal Ordinance will soon ban exhaust gas fun and transport tourism emissions!!!
He music is very distracting. It is the car we want to hear run. Not the music!
You, me and a couple hundred others all agree :) So I posted the same video, minus the music. Take a look at the next one in the series
I started to enjoy your test drive, but the engine note was masked too much by the muzak, so I gave up.
That was awesome muzak though, you've gotta admit. The next (last?) video I make, I'll add the footage back in, without a sound track.
True, you do choose good music!
@@jaygee5693 I think most of the views on this video were my own :). I tried to get the timing right, but it's just a bit off ... Second, no-music-vid will be coming (hopefully within the next 5 years)
@@christos7440 No rush.
Congratulations!
However, the music ruined the video. The rear bumperettes, the wood dash and the white walls trashed the car. Just my opinion. In its current condition it has style, no class.
I have owned 7 MGs to include a first month production MGA bought and restored to original in 1970 when I was working at British Motors of Monterey (calif) the Rolls Bentley Jag Aston Martin MINI COOPER Austin Jensen Lotus Morris MG etc dealership.
I currently have a 63 B.. No wood dash, no bumperettes and no (gag me) white walls.
Meh ... your opinion is noted
Jeff, I'm familiar with Monterey - I was stationed there for grad school. And all day, I've been thinking of your comment, I've been trying to keep myself professional, even respectful. But I'm curious why you would take the time to crap on this car, something that has taken me years to complete, something that has witnessed my life threatening illness (not COVID), that has ranged a couple of my bad relationships, that has consumed me with "how do I mod, but keep a reverent nod to the original," and that literally brought me to tears with pride, knowing I overcame a helluva lot to even get to this point. I got to this point ignoring/poo-pooing naysayers like you, researching things I had no idea how to do, and overcoming my own mistakes and finishing with a perfectly imperfect "purist's nightmare." I frankly have no beef with you, or people like you, but answer me this: how dare you shit on something you literally had NO hand in, on someone you don't know, and on something whose back story is a complete blank to you?
I think they came with whitewalls and bumperettes and for sure wood dash. IT is your car, do what makes you happy. The other guy can do the same. I like it, it has style and class and I drive the arch enemy TR6. 😊
@@richardporter6201 The MGA came, "for sure", with a painted metal dash.
Yup, your car, thankfully, not mine.; though in a week or two, I would have it "up to speed"
Triumphs had wood dashes. They had so much lacquer sprayed
on them they cracked; just another design, material and workmanship flaw of the Triumph.
I wanted one until I professionally worked on them, and drove one.
For the record, I recently helped a friend with a frame off restoration of his
71 TR6.. Now completed, it's for sale. He is keeping his four MGs.
55 TF 1500 (mint)
67 GT daily driver plus,
71 MG Midget which we are just now completing a ground up
restoration. 5 spd, 1275 tricked out, to the max. Ground up.
71 MGB w/o' drive waiting for restoration when the TR6 is gone.
PS We are both looking for an MGA that has not been bodged by the DPO.
@@jeffhildreth9244 You are absolutely right, that is what happens when I rely on memory and not checking. Bumpers with overriders ,metal dash standard and some with white sidewalls. Still like his car though I might not have done somethings. Had a TF in high school, fun car. Then MGBGT I converted to V8, fun fast car. Triumph GT6, bit hard to get into and current Triumph with overdrive and hardtop, fun fast attractive car in dark blue but dash is cracked. Still kicking myself for passing on very nice MGA Coupe, guy wanted what I thought was too much but time has shown me my error. Guess my point is I like them all and am ok with modifications that might not be to my taste except that ugly brown Triumph used.
ye haw !
Hell yeah, pardner!!
Lovely car crap music.
Lovely car, superb music! There's another, music-less version, with the same video, if you are interested.
