  • The mighty Bicester Scramble April 2024 edition is the subject of today's video, the second of three Bicester Scramble 2024 meets scheduled. We attended in January and were back in April 2024 to take in the huge variety of classic cars, sportscars and supercars that made the pilgrimage over to the former RAF Bicester airfield.
As always, there were many spectacular cars and plenty we'd not seen before, both in the displays around the Bicester Heritage buildings themselves and also out in the incredible public parking area which is worth the trip over alone. Being an old-car channel I've focused mainly on the older cars in attendance but have included quite a few later cars to give an overall view of a typical Bicester Scramble meet.
As often happens with Bicester Sunday Scramble videos here on the Old Classic Car channel, it's quite a lengthy upload (200+ individually edited clips) I imagine most viewers will watch it over several "sittings", and that's after some fairly hefty edits without which it would have probably been an extra 20-30 minutes in duration.
If you were at the April 2024 Bicester Scramble, either exhibiting or visiting as we were, let me know which classic cars or vintage cars most impressed you - likewise if you're viewing this without having visited in person, do any of the old cars stand out for you? It's always interesting to read your comments.
There were many automotive highlights for us this time - for example, a trio of rare Gordon Keebles, a very unusual Monteverdi, several V12 Ferraris, a subtly tuned-up Austin A35 for sale, the Bristol 400 that we recently filmed in a historic rally, a rotary-engined Mazda Cosmo, Maserati Sebring, and a very tempting Daimler Majestic Major 4.5 V8. But to be honest there were so many classic cars and vintage cars that I would have loved to bring home that picking a favourite is all-but impossible.
Please give the vid a Like and think about subscribing to the Old Classic Car channel (is costs £nothing), it all helps keep the channel viable.
I'll include links to previous Bicester Scramble videos at the end of this one, and also the Flywheel event from last year.

They say "great minds think alike" After ogling my personal favourite car the awesome Daimler Majestic Major you happened on an SP250. Almost togther we mentioned what a car an SP450 would have been with the larger motor. It would have been one of the fastest British sports cars of its time and also taken the American sports car market by storm!

Late to the party here, been rebuilding a set of Webers , fiddlly is the best word I can find... Anyway, wow a near as darn it 3 hour show report, thanks Richard as that is my evening taken care of, now where are those beers ?.......
    Edit to add
Typing as I watch , but you asked about electric conversions, I would like your views to be honest. For me I think is a darn shame, even if the engine that was in the car wasn't that interesting, it lasted this long so must have pretty good engineering to start with.
Thankyou for filming and talking about the Westys both the 7 and the XI, many classic car channels disregard "kit cars" and just walk past them without comment, so appreciate that.
👍. The XI had what looks like a Swiftune A series in it, if you watch Goodwood you will know his cars really fly, so with a feather weight XI that would really shift. Yes you were correct about the Lotus 7 being a series 3, the model was released in 1968, so thats a very early example there.
I do hope they don't overly restore "Barney" the Minor, it would be a shame to get rid of that patina now, get it safe and road legal sure, but not a full re-paint etc.. please...
Funny you mentioned the Husky as an everyday car, there was ( maybe still is ) one on Car and classic for a fair price, I was so tempted until I realised other car taxes are due in May as well as an MOT or so, then the Weber rebuild hit and the Husky dream was history 😔.
Love the TVR section, I now live back in the area I was born, having lived on the Wirral for almost 20 years and am about 15 mins away from the old factory, 5 years ago I took a freind who had never seen the place before, and there were still body parts and moulds all around the back of the place, perhaps they were in the middle of a final clear out at the time ( who knows) . I did have the chance to buy my mates 3000M, but bad timing with a kit car rebuild 15 years ago put paid to that.
I have to say that is your best vid yet in my eyes, I wish I lived further South again as there is nothing like those sort of shows around here, other than the cars and coffee crowd, who last time I went seemed more interested in having a pop and bang competition from the exhausts than proper classics on show - I only went the once , lol...

@@oldclassiccarUK LOL, loved the beer joke. As it happened I thought I would carry on the carb rebuild inside rather than in my shed, so I had to keep the beers to a minimum, no point in wrecking my work now, lol.
I edited my first post as I watched so you may wish to re-read what I said during the video.
I love the longer vids ( hour plus) as it lets me relax in my chair and enjoy the sights , rather than have to keep looking for new stuff every 10 mins as some youtubers tend to put out. If folks don't like long vids, watch what you can can come back next time to finish it off, let the folks who like long ones enjoy them - aimed at the 10 minute crowd there, lol.
Oh and thanks for the vid of my families old photos you featured a while back, nice to see them online, I was unable to comment back then as my health was quite bad, I have improved ...

Great video RJ, I have done the Paris to Peking (Beijing) trip a few times but on an Airbus A380 or 747, not quite the same I guess. A beautiful Lotus Esprit in red passed me on the A1 this morning and it just stood out and oozed class against all the modern offerings on the road, Correct me is I am wrong RJ I cannot recall seeing a Jaguar MK10 or 420G at any of these shows. A very busy show indeed. Harley isn't dropping subtle hints there at the A35 by any chance. Those beaded seat covers are very popular in China to this day and they ain't comfortable.

    • @oldclassiccarUK
      @oldclassiccarUK  หลายเดือนก่อน +2

Evening, nope I don't think I've seen a Mk10 or 420G at Bicester, I do find them at shows from time to time but not all that often. There was a 420G at Gawsworth Hall last year, in maroon. His A35 hints weren't remotely subtle :-)

Why would anyone take a rare or valuable classic worth 100k then devalue it massively by shoving in a electric drive, also they wont have much range as the battery space is limited as it was never designed for it. plus it has no heritage value any longer. becomes a fake in original clothing.

Corrigendum: At 54 mins 28secs the gear quadrant on the Maj Maj steering column depicts the gear selector for the Borg Warner DG 250 Auto.box : It's not a preselector transmission:The arrival of the 150 bhp Majestic 3.8litre of 1958 heralded the end of Daimler's time proven preselector gearbox: The almost 240bhp of the Maj Maj engine would have terminally deranged the old preselector box : LF 1622 appears to be one of the very last of the Majors , and as such would have also been fitted with the limited slip Salisbury diff as standard .

Great video Now on my third day of watching, So many Gordon-Keebles. I had thought they all had a Chrysler powerplant, but the lead one had a Chevrolet 327. Still good power for the weight. That French car that Harley wasn't sure what it was has been shown on Shed Racing and those wheels are brand new. I imagine finding someone that can make those is getting harder and more expensive as well. Thanks again for taking the time to show so many rare and unusual cars in your videos and sharing them. Hi 👋 That pre war Riley looks alot like a Citroen Traction I thought. Very similar in car design, especially at the back. I love the Alfa Romeo GTV, one of the nicest looking cars from the 1970s. The old vans bring back memories I'm much older than you and it's great to see these old vechiles from my younger years. The bubbly shaped Jaguars are a classic car. They certainly don't make them like that anymore. It would be good to sit in one , and be driven around in it. Thanks for your video. From Carl.

Please please please do not feature a video of those abominations that are classic cars polluted with electric motors! An internal combustion engine is the beating heart of the car and provides its sound track. Also the electric motor is in many cases still relies on fossil fuel to generate the electricity to charge its batteries. Mining of the rare earth materials which are used in them causes damage to the environment, in some cases the people who work in the mines in third world countries are virtual slaves and now there are even plans to destroy marine environments by mining seabeds. Add all this to an electric powered classic car and you can see why I call them abominations!

Love the attitude over there, wish we had the same in the UK. I don't hate EV's, I just don't want to own one simple as that. Perhaps this is a generational thing , I don't know, are the folks of my age ( knocking on 60 here !!) into EV's or ICE engines , perhaps I am odd, but so glad I am not the only odd one out there, lol. Maybe its down to being a "petrolhead" or not maybe that makes the difference, my old neighbour thought I had gone mad rebuilding a early 90's kit car, buy an EV he said, he knew nothing about cars, didn't even have a tool kit to fix stuff as he wanted to borrow a spanner to tighten a bolt on his boot hinge once !!.
