How to locate the cause of sewer odor - gas smell

The sewer vent system is a key part of making sure the drainage system functions. However, if the vent system develops a break or suffers some damage, it can begin to leak sewer gas. That gas can not only smell bad, but it can also be unhealthy. We use a smoke machine to pump smoke into the vent system. If there is a leak in that system, the smoke will show itself and we can identify where the sewer smell is coming from. Sometimes, we learn a toilet isn't set properly. Other times we learn that a vent pipe has been damaged within the wall.
