I just bought the Ultra Carry II Two-tone in 45ACP today! I took it to the range and I was quite pleased! It is very accurate and fun to shoot! I had no failure to feed or failure to eject. I highly recommend this Kimber.

Hopefully you at least hit your target 😂😂😂 Granite he’s using a 3 inch barrel and he’s pretty far away for 3 inch barrel, but I couldn’t help poke fun at the fact that he didn’t manage more than one bull’s-eye with about 13 shots and even then it wasn’t a bullseye 😂

I just picked up a used Kimber Micro 9 Nightfall for $350 and so far I love this pistol, it's very light to carry all day and for me, it shoots great at the range with zero issues with both type of ammo I use. I was concerned about buying a Kimber after hearing about some of their quality control issues I have heard lately and mine was made in the Alabama plant versus the Yonkers NY plant, but so far mine has been prefect and I feel comfortable using this as my daily EDC. Nice well made pistol for the money I paid for it.

Thank you for the video. I received a Kimber micro 9 two tone with a 3 white system for Christmas. So far very happy with it took it to the range 3x already no issues with 115 or 124 ammo ran Hollow points, ball and flat nose. I replaced the grips with G10 grips and changing the sights with XS sights just to be clear these are my personal preference. Probably have 400 rounds through it so far. When I cleaned it I even took the firing pin and extractor out to clean them also.

Interesting results at 50 yards! My wife and I own Sig P238 and P938 pistols, and they’re great for pocket carry. They’re also accurate and soft shooting, especially the .380. The Sig P365 has taken the place of my P938, but I do like the P938. Thanks for Sharing! 👍

Interesting comparison. I have the Colt Defender 9mm and the Sig P938. I almost abandoned the Sig P938 because of issues with the original 7-round magazine design. My P938 always functioned well with the 6-round flush fit magazines but I had numerous problems with the 7 rounders. First it was premature magazine release issues while I was shooting it and then it became feeding issues with all ammo. So for a few years the P938 marinated in my safe until I decided to get to the bottom of the magazine issues. Within the last six months I purchased a new Sig 7-round magazine from MidWay. The new 7-round magazine is physically different than my original magazines; it shows evidence of a design change ever so minor. The bottom line is that the new magazine works flawlessly with any ammo. Switching back to my original 7-rounder brings back the problems with it. Now when I compare the P938 and the Colt Defender 9 they are the same for accuracy but the 938 is easier to carry.

Thank you SO MUCH for making this video! Much like your other viewers, I’m trying to decide on which one to get. Reading reviews is ok, but seeing them in action and in capable hands is invaluable. Did you ever figure out why the Micro had the malfunctions? Were you able to fix the problem, or is it something you will need to send the pistol back to Kimber to get resolved?

    • @RidersRange
      @RidersRange  2 ปีที่แล้ว +5

Chris, thanks for watching. Those stoppages with the Micro 9 were all with Federal American Eagle 124gr "ball" ammo. That ammo has run just fine in many other guns, but for reasons I haven't figured out, they had issues in those Kimbers that day. Both guns have run just fine with my carry ammo, however - Federal 124gr HST. I still trust the Micro with the HST ammo and do carry it on occasion. The Ultra Carry II now belongs to my daughter and she hasn't had any more issues with it. If you do decide on a Micro 9, just be aware you may have to run a couple hundred rounds of 124gr, and maybe even 147gr ammo through it, then a few mags of your carry ammo, before you can trust it (or almost any gun) for protection.

I haven’t decided which I like better, but with more range time, maybe I will choose. As usual you you hit those targets well and especially with a micro at that distance. I carry two pistols rotation a Walther CCP which Carey's so we'll and shoots pretty dang well, it uses the gas blowback that you see in HK pistols and are very controllable, they do need cleaning a bit more due to the port but just love that CCP egonomics. Also I carry a HK VP9SK and my favorite holsters are the Galco Combat master or Speed paddle, the HK doesn't carry as concealed as the CCP but it still a winner, it's what I like about single stack pistols is they conceal so we'll. I purchased the Kimber Stainless II 1911 .45 ACP handgun and I love it. I also purchased the Kimber 1911 "Micro 9" believing that it too would be trustworthy. Althought it is a beautiful handpiece, it is unworthy of being a defensive weapon, IMHO. If you load the Kimber "Micro 9" with hollowpoints, instead of target range ammo, the unit will notoriously jam up. Even Kimber warns you not to use a "steady diet" of ammo other than basic FMJ target ammo. When I called the Kimber's main tech office in New York, I asked the tech specialist:
" what does Kimber mean by the term "steady diet"?
The tech told me the term "steady diet" means not to use a constant load of anything other than FMJ target ammo.
So I went to an outside range all by myself and tested the Kimber Micro 9 with FMJ target ammo vs. hollow points. The conclusion: The FMJ ammo would inconsistently stovepipe or other wise jam up. But when I put plus P hollow point ammo into the magazine, the weapon would not fire, the round would not properly insert into the barrel. After multiple rejections and failures, I had to remove the 9mm hollow points and re-insert the magazine with different hollow points from other expensive manufacturers such as: HST 147 grain Federal Premium 9mm Luger personal defense rounds. When I placed a full magazine of those rounds into my Kimber Micro 9, the magazine also failed to insert the bullets into the chamber consistently. There would also be jam-ups.
Then I tried the same experiment wth Hornady Critical Duty 124 gr. FlexLock hollowpoints into the same magazine for my Kimber Micro 9. Again, there was another failure to properly load.
Thus I have chosen not to carry a Kimber Micro 9 as a main carry weapon with any special ammo such as Federal Premium HST 147 gn Personal Defense 9mm Luger ammo. Nor will I use Hornady Critical Duty 9mm Luger+P 124 gr Flex Lock bullets in my Kimber Micro 9. It's not the ammo's fault, it's the fault of the Kimber Micro 9, IMHO.
As far as my Kimber Micro 9 is concerned, I will only use it at the target range as a practice pistal with FMJ ammo. I refuse to use this beautiful tiny artsy handgun as a protective carry weapon. If you choose to do so, be aware of its limitations and carry it as a defensive weapon at your own risk. I recently spoke with a woman who regularly carries the Kimber Micro 9 as her primary everyday carry gun. When I asked her about her experiences at the target range, she said she had no adverse issues. I asked her what type of ammo she was using and she had no clue. So, all of you who purchased a Kimber Micro 9 as your primary private carry weapon, please be aware of its limitations, especially if you use ammo other than everyday FMJ target practice ammo.
Dear Kimber, if you have any questions or other issues with what I have just stated, you can call me at the same telephone number I gave you when I purchased my Kimber Stainless II and my Kimber Micro 9. I'd be interested in hearing about your promotion for using this pretty artsy piece of 9 mm handgun protections, especially for women who believe it is a convenient weapon when their lives are in danger.
Due to my registration information, you know my name and you have my telephone number. I invite you to call me at you leisure to discuss the faults of this weapon as a safe carry handgun, especially for women who believe it is safe to protect themselves. It believe the Micro 9 has more jamups than any other small handgun I have ever used. You have my permission to call me and ask me why I hold this position.
BTW, all of you husbands who purchased this handgun for your spouse's safety, you had better do some research before you allow your wife to protect herself with the Kimber Micro 9. You may wish to research this pretty little handgun before believing it will save her during an altercation. Go ahead, Kimber. You have my permission to call me to discuss the faults of the Kimber Micro 9 as to why people should not rely on it for their safety. Until you remover your warning not to allow any ammo other than regular target FMJ bullets, you may wish to reconsider selling this weapon as the gun to protect a woman. Afterall that seems to be our market from what I've seen.
You have my phone number so please call me to discuss why this gun has so many faults. You have my telephone number, so I invite you to call me at you leisure to discuss the faults of this weapon as a safe carry handgun, especially for women who believe it is safe to protect themselves.

Thank you for watching and commenting. Which gun "feels better in the hand" is a personal choice and somewhat dependent on the size of your hand. I have medium hands and, while I shoot the Micro well and sometimes carry it, I prefer the Ultra Carry size of pistol. (I'm currently carrying a Staccato C.) I can control that size pistol better for follow-up shots.
I gave my daughter my Ultra Carry and she lives 1,200 miles away, so I can't pull the grips to check the brand. However, as I recall they were either VZ grips, or LOK grips. LOK is my favorite brand and I have LOK grips on many pistols. I hope this helps.

I bought two Micro's. Kimber will not let you send them back for work until 500 rounds have been fired. (?) How do you fight your way through 500 rounds when it jams every time? A heavier spring helped reduce the jambs to 50%. Sharp firing pin hole in the breach face shaved brass from every round causing eventual light firing pin strikes. If you are not prepared to deal with this for 500 rounds, Buy something cheaper that works out of the box. Do not pay premium price to experiment!

Both of my Micro 9s took a little break-in time. Keep it cleaned and lubed and run a couple hundred rounds of 124 and 147 grain ammo through it, then it should run just fine. Keep in mind that most all-metal guns need to be well lubricated. They don't like to run dry like many polymer-frame guns will.

Michael, the only thing I've been able to figure out has to do with the shape of the 9mm cartridge. It is slightly tapered, so in a single-stack magazine the top rounds start to dip with more rounds in the mag. When I carry the Micro 9, I load the chamber from the mag, but don't top off the mag. That seems to be more reliable.

I had to carve the Sig base down a little so the mags would lock in to the Kimber. I love both my Ultra Carry 2 pistols, one in 9mm, and the other in 45acp. I also own a Micro 9 and I'm not totally sold on it. When I bought the Micro 9 I already had a Sig Sauer p938 and the Sig is a far superior pistol than the Micro 9. Funny, you would have thought that when Kimber obviously copied (reverse engineered) the p938 they would have done a better job. Both my Ultra Carry 2 pistols are excellent well made weapons, and it's bewildering they could screw up the Micro 9 to the extent they did. The Micro 9 doesn't like 115g 9mm, and of course Kimber mags suck. Whenever I buy a Kimber I always factor in a couple of Wilson Combat mags into the price.

As to reliability, many 1911s and the smaller guns that are somewhat based on the 1911 design, can be 100% reliable, if maintained properly. @@SOLDOZER the manual safety debate will rage on and on and folks will never come to agreement. I watched Reid's video and he omitted a couple important points. 1) Many striker-fired pistols are anywhere from 85% to 99% cocked, much like carrying a cocked revolver, yet MOST of the time - I emphasize MOST - they are perfectly safe, as long as nothing activates the trigger. (I carried a Glock [85% cocked] on duty for the final 24 years of my law enforcement career, without incident.) 2) Many top law enforcement agency special units select a 1911-style pistol, but go through extensive training to use them successfully.
I agree that having a manual safety is not the best for the vast majority of gun carriers, but it IS the right choice for those who are willing to put in the effort to train constantly with a pistol with a safety.
