About Street Fighter II: The Animated Movie (1994):
Bison, the ruthless leader of the international terrorist organization Shadowlaw, has been desperately searching for the greatest fighter on the planet for years. He finds it in Ryu, a young wanderer who never stays in one place long enough for Bison to find him. He does, however, get a fix on Ken Masters, an American martial arts champion who studied with Ryu as a child under the same master. Meanwhile, Major Guile of the United States Army is forced to team up with Chun Li from China in hopes of apprehending Bison and putting a stop his international ring of crime.

I really like how in the movie, they made her spinning bird kick attack more realistic by having her rotate with her hands rather than in the cartoon where she’s just spinning like a top in mid air. But arguably, that is more accurate to the video game 😂

I like that in the OVA they didn't use dramatic SFX for the kicking, but flesh hitting flesh sounds. Also, Chun-Li sounding exhausted with all the fighting that she can't scream that loud, until the massive beating at the end.

Same with Ryu's Tatsumaki Senpuukyaku in the same movie. As unrealistic as the game's moves are, the OVA both did them justice _and_ plausibly choreographed them when possible.
I was thrown off. I’m used to the dub version with the rock music during the Vega v chun li fight. This version was like ... where the flowers and romantic backdrop at 😅

The anime is amazing, both from a story and fight choreography perspective. The foot-plant and spin move on Vega’s face was perfection!! ....... The American cartoon on the other hand was a hot steaming pile of $&@%!!!

Lower budget and the US version didn't have as much competition when it came to other shows animation styles. So they figured with such a low bar they didn't have to strive to do better and that kids "would like it anyway" because they are dumb.
And it worked for the most part.

I've watched this scene in english dub before but with some metal background music; I must say I liked it better than this one, I mean it's an intense fight, it doesn't match too much with that mellow music
Yeah, shit fucking sucks compared to the English dub which has KMFDM kicking in the background during the fight and it's awesome.
the japanese track was actually playing music from her hi fi. chun li wouldnt listen to that head banging crap from the dub. eng dub also doesnt have the epic ken and ryu bromance track.

I would agree. Even crazier is that recently I saw another English dub with the Japanese BGM (on Tubi TV) and I immediately thought, "Eh, this ain't what I remember." Only because I grew up watching the English version with the song "Ultra" in the background while Chun-Li is beating the piss out of Vega (and I still have that DVD). I'll admit, I'm used to watching Street Fighter anime subbed, but this more recent dub (English audio with Japanese BGM) sort of threw me for a loop...in a good way

The TV show has not aged well. I recall watching it years ago and enjoying it. The movie obviously is superior but then again it has a bigger budget so perhaps that is to be expected. I seem to recall Bison having some great lines in the TV show though. Something about him killing fathers and Bison saying "I killed my father too and you don't hear me complaining about it!"

If you're trying render a martial arts moves from a fighting game, you have make it, if not accurate, believable.
The cartoon doesn't do that at all, the anime does.

WTF?! I'm used to music during the Chun-Li v Vega fight being KMFDM, so seeing the same fight with some sleepy ass score in the background totally kills it for me.

The Japanese animation in the movie is superior, but when it comes the soundtrack the American dub is top grade quality and it really captures the mood of that fight.
It’s a great use of a great song...but I read a compelling argument that the ‘sleepy ass’ song is supposed to make you feel worried that something sad is coming.
