I am having to try an figure out how to store some of the collections that I am gathering. Right now I am working on shavettes. I use a stand for test tubes for my DE safety razors but it does work for shavettes. I'm going to try plastic travel toothbrush cases and then store those in those pocket things that hang behind doors. I have been sending for quite a few things for my shave den.
Thank you for the tour Kevy. I am fairly new to wet shaving and having a great time exploring new blades, razors, soaps, etc. I love that I can watch everyone's videos and pick up tips along the way. Looking forward to your next installment. Cheers from sunny Florida!
Cheers Jason. It's great fun shaving this way, right? So many different things to try. Great that you're picking up tips from others, it's the best way to learn and try new things. Cheers from not so sunny Scotland! 😬
Toilet rolls for brush storage? You're a genius, Kevy! It will keep knots from looking like tired wigs. It's a hack everyone will appreciate. Thanks mate! Bring on Part 4!!! I'm ready.
Since this video didn’t they make the FatTip Grande less agressive? I have one not sure if it’s the less or more aggressive one. I find it medium-agressive
Hi Kevy! An excellent video again. Regarding the Phoenix Double Open Comb razor in my opinion it is a VERY mild tool. You classified it as between mild an aggressive. - I'm looking forward to another great video from Kevy Shaves 😊 Have a nice day!
Cheers Carl! I think the PAA DOC looks worse than it is. Although it's not aggressive as others I find it a touch more aggressive than my 34C. I appreciate you watching and commenting. Kevy 😀
Hi Kev, the first Gillette tech you had, what year are they roughly, I have one also, I'm thinking 70s can't be sure tho. I have a Parker 99r, my first razor, took a bit of getting used to but now enjoy it. It all clicked when I got the merkur 34c, great razor, out of all my razors it's the best performance wise easily. I use a synthetic brush most days, boar just doesn't do it for me, I like badger tho. Anyway enjoying the den tour. Take care, owe in NZ 💈
Owen, I think the tech with the beat up handle is a Tech sport. They were released in the early 70's. I really like the 34C too. always gives a great shave. Thanks for watching and for the great comment. Cheers. Kevy ☺
i have 4 brushes and erm erm not an addiction 31 razors i only have about 6 kinds of blades but i buy them from ebay in packs of 100 so thats that good to see how your collection is coming along looking forward to the aftershaves
The Treet black beauties are a good blade, nice and sharp and very smooth. I've not had any problems with rust. However, I find they don't stay sharp as long as other blades. I can only use that blade for 2 shaves then it's done. My favourite blade at the moment are Perma-Sharp stainless. Fantastic blades! Cheers, Kevy 👍
You have got some nice razors and brushes Kevy a lot of your razors in your den, I own as well. Do you hang your brushes upside down when you have used them Kevy?
Cheers Steven. I hang the badger and boar brushes upside down to dry after I've used them. The synthetics dry pretty quickly so I don't bother with those, just leave them upright and they dry in a couple of hours. What about you? Do you hang them upside down?
Very much enjoyed this video, Kevy, as I always do yours. A bit of down the old memory lane, no? But what happened to the “1912” single edge? Hope you didn’t ditch it! Also, it seems to me that the distinction between “aggressive” and “mild” razors or blades is something of a misnomer-which for me has more to do with prep, soap, and technique. Don’t forget to decide whether to shake or stir the Thayer’s witch hazel, with olive or onion! Thanks for another enjoyable video and cheers!
Ha ha, brilliant Geoff! The single edge razor was only on loan to me to let me try it out. I do agree with you a little bit about the misnomer! Personally, I think the quality of the shave has a lot to do with the things you mentioned, but I also think the razor choice comes into play too. Great comment! I shook the Thayer's in today's shave! Cheers. Kevy 😀
Nice razor collection Kevy :). To me seems you really have considered in care which razors you want in your collection. I am bit jealous for so nice collection ;)
Tomsterr Thanks. I like to try different razors out. Also, I don't mind waiting on something if I want it. I must've looked at dozens of Gillette Slims and and Gillette Fatboys before I bought the ones I have. It takes time to build a nice den. Cheers. Kevy 👍
Hi Kevy, I have bought The stirling brush after having seen this video. This brush is so soft, i love it ! I like a lot the look of the Satin Tip brush, is this brush as soft as the stirling ? Thank's
Hi. Good to hear you like the Stirling brush. I really like it too. I was given the Satin Tip brush as a gift. It is as soft as the Stirling but it's a bit smaller but it is a really good brush. It has a superb amount of backbone and it holds a ton of lather. It really is an excellent little brush. I have it in the black bristles but you can also get it with white bristles. I didn't know much about it beforehand but when I received it, it really surprised me how good it was. Hope that helps. Cheers. Kevy:)
hi kevy , yes the 34c is probably in my view , others may vary - your best razor out of your collection , btw - if you put other blades in that , you can change its aggressiveness , think it has a blade gap of 61mm which makes it a very deceiving piece of kit .
Hi Kevy, Me Again! I tried the Derby with my EJ 3D Lazer Diamond this morning and it wasn't a great shave. No irritation or nicks but it felt like I had done half a job. I am wondering if my razor is so mild so as to require a very sharp blade to obtain that BBS we all desire. My rationale for this thought is that bar the odd nick on the first pass, the Feather blades perform as I expected all blades to.
David Dyer sounds like you need a sharper blade. when I bought my EJ - the same one you have - it came shipped with a pack of Feather blades so I guess Edwin Jagger recommend using them in that razor. I find it quite mild too on my stubble. Yes, I would try a sharper blade, feather, voskhod, perma-sharp, Polsilver super iridium. Cheers. Kevy.
I am glad to see that someone so experienced as you, has so many of the same razors I have. Being a beginner, it is reassuring to know that I'm on the right track. I'm thinking if going with a slant razor, what would you recommend?
woohog1 Thanks. I wouldn't say I was that experienced, I'm always learning and trying to improve with every shave. Great to hear we have some of the same razors. As for a slant, I would recommend either the Merkur 37C or the Razorock German slant both very similar razors. Cheers. Kevy 😀
I enjoyed this video, Kevy. You have quite a fine collection of equipment. One thing- the Gaelic word for honeybee, "seillean," is pronounced "SHELL-an." Keep the films coming!
John White thanks John. yes, I just found out tonight I've been saying it wrong all this time. Your pronunciation is exactly the way I was told to say it. Cheers. Kevy ☺
Sorry, a bit late in the day (only a year after! :) ), I think the bloke on the menrock packaging is unshaved *precisely* because a menrock straight razor was all he had to shave with. Which is in line with how much you've yourself used the menrock. It all makes sense...you've just got to read the signs :)
David, the shop was called Tiger. It sells stationery and stuff like that. They're all over the UK and in most of the bigger cities. I'm not sure if they still sell them or not, it was a while back I got them and I've not been in there for ages. Let me know if you find them. Cheers. Kevy 😀
Another great vid. Out of curiosity, can you buy DE blades in the supermarket where you live? Or do you have to go into a special shaving store? I have been ordering from Amazon and Ebay, but recently read some may be "fake"?... . My granny used to say: cheap stuff ends up costing you more.... (in this case cuts...?).
So,e of the supermarkets sell de blades. Wilkinson swords and Rebranded Personna reds. But most of my blades, I buy from online vendors. Cheers. Kevy 😀
A boy with his toys is a beautiful thing.. :D If you ever have the chance to add a Soviet Era Bakelite DE razor to your collection; I highly recommend doing so. They are physically beautiful and shave like a dream. I guarantee if you add one to your collection; you will not regret it. Thanks for the peep show. I am "stoked"( I've been wanting to say that for the longest time XD) to see other videos in this series.
I haven't even heard of that soviet razor! I'll have to search for it to check it out. I'm stoked that you're stoked about watching the other vids in the series! Lol! Cheers. Kevy 😀
Here is a link. I have seen others of exactly the same brand/model on Ebay. Some had a a Bakelite case instead of transparent plastic. I have also seen Black and Red versions with slightly modified body styles. www.ebay.com/itm/Vintage-Russian-Safety-Razor-Bakelite-1960s-bonus/252355808013?_trksid=p2047675.c100012.m1985&_trkparms=aid%3D222007%26algo%3DSIC.MBE%26ao%3D1%26asc%3D36016%26meid%3Dc7ce94d38baa480fbc57d7e40adefb3a%26pid%3D100012%26rk%3D5%26rkt%3D10%26sd%3D331839328716
If you're new to DE shaving I would suggest starting with a synthetic brush. They're very easy to use and always build a great lather. There's lots of different ones to choose from and they're very reasonably priced. Cheers. Kevy 😀👍
Very nice video and collection :) Can You say something more about blades... which one do you prefere the most on Merkur 37C slant, Muhle R41 and EJ 89DE ?
Ralf P That's a tough question to answer. My favourite blades change whenever I try new ones and like them. There are so many different blades out there to and so many variables depending on what soap and how thick or dry the lather is etc. My favourite blades at the moment are Perma Sharp's, Polsilver super iridium and Gillette Silver blues, but that might change as I try different blades. Great question. Cheers. Kevy 😀
Hi Kevy! Nice collection of razors👍 Would like a word of advice. I'm plan to buy either a Fat tip grande or Phoenix artisian. Would like to know which one of those you like most in terms of overall handling? Cheers from Sweden😃
Hi Johnny. I think the Phoenix Artisan might be a better choice. I find it to give me a comfier shave. The Fatip Grande is a little more aggressive. But you might want that. Cheers. Kevy 👍
I used an Astra green blade in my razor (Edwin Jagger 3D) for the first time today and it failed to remove anything. I put a feather blade and it shaved a treat. Does one have to use a different technique for different blades or do some blades simply not work as well in certain razors compared to others, or was it maybe just a dud blade. I would welcome your thoughts
David Dyer You do occasionally get a blade that's bad. It does help finding a blade that goes well with the razor depending on how mild or aggressive it is. Some swear by a Feather in a milder razor. That's what I enjoy about this way of shaving, trying out all the different combinations. Cheers. Kevy ☺
This is very strange and I point blank refused to believe these stories until it happened to me. Polsilver blades in a Mulhe R89 used to cut me to peices. However the same blades are kitten tame in a Fatip Retro, or Parker 22 Interceptor. It's all to do with the blade angle of your razor and and the angle that the blade has been machined etc etc. I've learn't never to rubbish any make of blade, it's just a matter of finding the right kit. Asco blades are pretty crap though, and I don't like Astra but I think that's just a matter of Taste/marketing. I have Dorco blades to give away if anyone want to try them.
I think you have an addiction to shaving stuff. I pray that you got much of it as free samples otherwise you'll be delaying your retirement plans by 5 years.

Love your brushes and razors. The Italian Barber is my favorite brush.
That's one of my favourites too. Kevy 😀
I've been wanting to try one of those little satin tip brushes.
Nice collection Kevy, and a couple of top storage ideas 😌👏
Cheers Dave 👊
A nice selection of razors, brushes and blades Kevy.
Cheers Steve 👍
Toilet rolls for brush storage? You're a genius, Kevy! It will keep knots from looking like tired wigs. It's a hack everyone will appreciate. Thanks mate! Bring on Part 4!!! I'm ready.
Cheers Alex. It helps keep the shape of the knot and the cardboard helps any moisture getting to the brush. Maybe I should patent the idea! Lol! 😀
Damn, you get up early!!
err .... you stole that off someone else mate ..... ill have to remind myself who ...
+technically brilliant I think I remember seeing someone else do it too. Can't remember who either! Just thought it was good idea 😀
but it is a good idea :O) - ohh btw i think you need to get hold of an r41 - it separates the seasoned shavers from the... shavers :O)
Excellent video Kevy ... When you get some more equipment could you do an update? Thanks ...
Thanks Rick. I need to do an update soon. Cheers. Kevy 😀👍

Cheers Chris,. Just the aftershaves video to post. Should be on here sometime over the weekend 😀
Gr8 tour! Luv all the gear, thx for sharing!
Thanks! The last part of the shave den tour - Aftershaves - is going live in a few minutes....Cheers. Kevy 😀

good to see how your collection is coming along
looking forward to the aftershaves
Good to hear John. 31 razors? Wow, that is a nice number of razors to have! What blades do you prefer? Cheers...Kevy.
Wilkinson sword
Great blades :)
How do you compare those Treet black beauties to other blades? Any problems with rust? Also what is your favorite blade? Great video by the way!

It just does the job for me and 9 times out of 10 gives me a great, comfortable shave. You're spot on about the blade choice too. 👍
cheers kevy :O)

Very cool. Any plans on adding a Gillette Fatboy to the collection? For nostalgia...?
Thanks Caeser. Yes, definitely! A Gillette Fatboy would be an awesome addition to my den. Cheers, Kevy 👍
I’m new to DE shaving. As far as brushes, what is better? Synthetic or boar or badger?

Hey Kevy, I've heard the terms aggressive razor and mild razor. What are the differences in these two?
An aggressive razor will give you a very close shave that may cause some irritation, and a mild razor will be easier on your skin. Kevy 😀👍
Hi Kevy!
Nice collection of razors👍
Would like a word of advice.
Cheers. Kevy 👍
Kevy Shaves Thank you for the advice👍 I will go on a while with my Merkur 34c before I go in to the hardcore ones😃
Cheers!
Good idea, get used to shaving with the 34C, it's a great razor. Cheers. Kevy :)
I used an Astra green blade in my razor (Edwin Jagger 3D) for the first time today and it failed to remove anything. I put a feather blade and it shaved a treat. Cheers Kevy. I think I will put the Astra blades on one side until i get my next razor and try them then. Thanks for the advice. Dave
David Dyer try a Esther in the DE89 but be gentle and take your time. Hopefully that might work. Kevy
This is very strange and I point blank refused to believe these stories until it happened to me. Polsilver blades in a Mulhe R89 used to cut me to peices. I spy a Fender logo Ha! My 2 favorite things guitars and shaving haha
nice, really nice....
Good morning 🌻🌄❣️
Nice shave den Kevy, I must comment on how tidy it looks, leaves me a bit embarrassed.
Ha ha! It's my OCD to blame for the tidy den...and the missus moaning about me taking up all the cupboard space in the bathroom! 😀
I think you have an addiction to shaving stuff. I pray that you got much of it as free samples otherwise you'll be delaying your retirement plans by 5 years.
😂👏
Strongly disagree! In fatip quality of disgusting.
