For someone in a rush to get to CT because of someone being pushy, you couldn't have taken a longer path to get there even if you did it on purpose. Enter Feerott, follow left zone wall, you'll be there in under 30 seconds.
You couldn't be more wrong about the popularity of the zone, or the loot. It was rammed - they used to call it Ruby Fever, the drive to collect rubicite gear. So many arguments over loot ensued, they removed rubicite from the game. Pre-Kunark, there were usually 8-10 groups there. People stopped cominmg when they removed the loot.
The lore for Guk is a little loose but from what I understand the Trolls (Guk) received a prophecy from Innoruuk that spurned massive military growth but also lots of infighting for the top clan. In a weak period Frogloks arrived from *somewhere* on the coast and attacked Guk out of disgust and need of a stronghold. The trolls lost, but troll leader at the time hid down in Guk for some time before manifesting so much hate for the Frogloks that Innoruuk made him a living bomb that took out hundreds of Frogloks and rose them all as sentient undead. So when you enter Classic, Grobb is a makeshift refuge for the beaten down trolls, the Frogloks are pinned between the enraged Trolls in the swamp and the undead in the lowest of Guk.
I participated in the invasion of Grobb back in the day as a guide (baby GM). It was honestly one of my favorite events I've ever done in an MMO. I was a frog and stormed Grobb with people. The server I was in put up a staunch resistance to the frogs, but realized pretty quick they were overwhelmed. The frogs took Grobb, renaming it Gukta, Outpost of Marr. The trolls relocated, if memory serves, to the Neriak Foreign Quarter in new caves that had everything the trolls needed and nothing more. I know the trolls eventually retook Gukta, but I was not playing by then.
Nice. I remember on the Cazic Thule server one day a GM did an event where Innoruuk and an army of Dark Elves left Neriak, went through the commons and Nektulos and slaughtered all the NPC Halflings in Rivervale. A call went out to all players to converge in Nektulos to try to beat them back only to result in many senseless deaths. It went to far I think because after a while a GM came on and gave the DE army the "Staff of Death". Seeing a dead Mayor Grubbin was a sad sight indeed. I got off lucky and only died once but a guildie of mine died like 6-7 times. He was bound in Rivervale. So many cool memories. :)

When Legacy of Ykesha was ramping up there was an event where the frogs took Grobb and the trolls took refuge in the Neriak Foreign Quarter and Neriak became their starting city. Grobb became Gukta and after a good amount of time the trolls took it back. Frogloks moved to the mountains.

Cazic Thule had a great experience modifier, was a hub for a lot of quest drops, and the cash loot (plat, fine steel, gems) is pretty great. It's not even very far out of the way, being next to a druid port, having a built-in wizard port, and being next to several popular spots for grinding or farming. It just had two flaws that are fatal when combined; lots of dense and roaming mobs, and lots of healing mobs. As your footage shows, you can end up getting lizards piled all over you with like three of them healing all of their friends, each other, and themselves. And while mob's mana isn't infinite, it's close enough. While an enchanter or bard can make this easy enough, it's just an extra hassle that can very quickly spiral into lost XP and a long corpse run. Similar flaws killed the original Splitpaw lair (i.e., the one before the Tesch Val-type gnolls) and Kerra Isle. Though neither of those had the perks going for them that Cazic Thule did. Also the reason Rubicite was removed is because it was literally the best AC armor you could get besides endgame (Lguk / SolB) stuff, and was wearable by every chain and plate class. Rogues, Shaman, Ranger, etc. could all wear it. And so every spawn that dropped it was overcamped, loot fights and griefing were rampant, and in the end everyone was just walking around looking like tomatoes. So Verant removed the Rubicite, and replaced it with Class Quest Armors (Totemic, Lambent, etc), as well as adding Fine Steel Plate to blacksmithing, and then replaced the CT rubicite drops with ravenscale (rogue-only stuff)
Concerning CT's usage early on, it was actually very popular in the first months of the game. Only as people began to gain some knowledge of the game, and as the gear became less and less desirable, it was abandoned. Not just because of the zone design, but because of the caster mobs.
Rubicite was generic mid-level armor that was replaced by the class specific armors that went in with Sol Ro Temple. The BP was eventually replaced by the chain one from Kunark with identical stats or close. Iksar Ceremonial Chestplate or something like that. Rubicite became something of an early-game collectors item which was pretty cool, too. CT was a great zone for XP and plat... you could really clean up with fine steel weapons. Once rubicite was removed (because of the constant kill stealing and customer service issues), as well as the expansions, the zone was empty. It had a certain uniquene charm. After the revamp to a higher level zone, I don't think I spent that much time there ever again.
Yep! I spent time on my wizard AoEing lizards outside of CT to raise faction with the lizards inside CT, just so I can use my CT port spells without worry. The only things that will attack you at that point on will be the alligators.
Rubacite armor is OP because chain classes, (Rangers Rogues and Shaman) can wear it allowing them to wear plate mail. Essentially It made all the chain mail gear in game at the time redundant and everyone would be red lol.
There's other classic chain armor with the plate look, like Mithril, and some of the planar sets. Rubicite was replaced by the mid level class armors that went in with Sol Ro Temple.

CT is a pretty cool dungeon. Just annoying with all the cleric mobs. My sister and I run as a SK/shaman duo that we've been playing every so often (that she also streams on twitch) and we did a night in CT. The clerics and all the buffs make the mobs feel considerably tougher and we just ended up moving on. We did some LGuk and then moved to Paw, which we've been at the last few nights. Shaman is 35 and SK is 38. I think you're around the level where we can group. I'll see if you're around one night and shoot you a tell, would be glad to do some CT with you. My wiz can even get you to us if needed. xD
@@SageFreke1 I used to hate Paw after they raised its level. But, a few weeks ago, I started taking my characters who were in their 30s there. Teamed my 37 mage up with a 36 cleric, and we tore that place up (water pet). Last night I was in there on my 38 monk... with a 34 monk, a 37 cleric and a 32 or 33 enchanter. It was good for the most part, although the enchanter died once, and due to network problems came back in the middle of a fight and got killed again :( It's become one of my favorite zones, now.
Got so confused when vamo alla flamenco began playing cuz I was playing FF on the side whilst watching. Was way too tired to realise it was the video, so that ruined my brain for a sec
This video triggered me unintentionally. The 5/19 claw was one of the best aggro items in the entire game back in 1999. On P99 for whatever reason, fast weapons don't affect aggro, but anyone who was around back then can attest to this. Fast weapons in general meant more aggro. Aggro was a lot more of an issue back then.
If memory serves devs in early Kunark nerfed some crazy fast item (like 5/10 dmg/dly) and simultaneously "softened the blow" by claiming fast weapons being more aggro was always a bug and they were fixing it... basically killed warrior tanking. They could not hold aggro after that. And rage and stun procs became basically their only hope.
the trolls were eating the frogloks, mithanial marr blessed them, they drove the trolls out of grobb, the trolls went to neriak, after awhile they took Grobb back ....rough short version there
I know this video is a year old. But Plane of Fear, Plane of Hate, and Plane of Sky were all in original EQ release, pre Kunark. Granted those zones were "buffed" later on, but they were always there.
@@SageFreke1He is 1000% wrong. THE ONLY raids at release were Nagafen and Vox. Pof and poh were added oh maybe 6-9 months in... I don't even remember sky being added. It was after or maybe the same time as Kedge for sure (Phin was 5th raid added) What he may mean is those zones existed in game files... but had no way to access... which I vaguely recall someone digging through game files and posting them online before they were announced... so THAT may be true... but you absolutely could not go there until several months post launch... well, well, WELL after servers were full of lvl 50s.
This is my favorite zone for that level range. When it was busy, you could crawl up to the top mid 30s and not leave until mid 40s If you wanted They chop the zem a tiny bit and everyone abandons the zone. Shame.
Nope. You definitely did. Shadow Knight lizards with pets dropped the decayed pieces. I did that quest on like 6 characters. I miss the good ol days. Now those pieces drop on a named mob outside the temple that has a chance of spawning every 15 minutes. There's two other place holders. It takes about a day to get all your pieces. It used to be tough
@SageFreke1 Well I cannot fully atest to the exact date the 3 original Planes were officially made available, I do not know who the first 46+ wizard was and when they could officially get into a Plane. But I was a from launch player. At the time I was 19 yr old playing Ultima Online and working at Frys Electronics, waiting for EQ to release (my best HS bud was a late rd beta tester). I bought and still own 3 original EQ cd copies and I can verify the zone files for all 3 Planes were present on the CDs. If they decided to hold off rolling out access to those zones until closer to peoples ability to enter those zones for tweaking reasons, it is possible yes. But from a game art direction, I know it was all already created. I played a barb rogue on Rathe server at launch for approx 2 months or until the Vallon and Tallon PVP servers were released, and I rerolled a Erud Chanter and played that as my main for 4 years thru POP in the top raid guild on Vallon, Defiant from level 35 to 65. I even remember being a lvl 29 chanter at the time of the GM sponsered event later known as "bloody kithicor" where they gathered as many people as possible of all levels to Kith and had an all out PVP war. Granted those servers were designed race teams devided into 3 races per team, the natural dision of the server ended up 9 on 3 good vs evil. As a chanter at the time, I could still charm and fear PC players. Nothing more satisfying than charming an ogre warrior to attack his dark elf wizard companion. Unfortunately shortly after PC charm and fear were removed to balance and griefing issues, and living the life of a chanter on a PVP server became bittersweet
I tried to do this zone. Compared to guk, mobs had way more HP, which made the XP a lot worse. It was also easier to get a lot more adds and wipe. Had it been just a little worse, I'd have still played it. But guk was so much better, it was hard to justify.
From the title I thought this was going to be in Dalnir. Anyway, why is the mana regen so slow? I played through those levels around the time PoP came out and it was slow but not anything like this. Is there any clairty or wisdom items to help with that and maybe this is before mana and SoW pots were a thing?
@@SageFreke1 Sounds rough, think I had snagged some decent items from the Bazaar as there was lots of high levels farming to make plat back then. Had lots of fun on this game though.

The way I pronounce Cazic Thule and subsequently Innothule is not the popular way, but the way Thule is meant to be pronounced, so it throws everyone off. Like the name Thule or Ultima-Thule, which is funny because in another game I play Ultima Thule is actually used there as its own thing, and the english voice actors BUTCHER thule but all the other language actors pronounce it perfectly (hint: Thule is two syllables).

Zee-lot? Aye-vatar? Are you trolling? Or? Zealot is pronounced zel-ot, as in religious zealot. Avatar... like the last air-bender. There is no way you don't know this.
God I hate those stupid macros for everything, no offense to you. Just cannot stand them, I would rather close all of my chat boxes instead if people have them. No need for something as easy as cazic zone. In my opinion, the only one that matters is for the puller, so people in the group know the exact mob that is inc, other than that, I don't need to know that I'm being healed, or what I need to attack with a mob name, etc. (Just use assist to begin with) Most of these things are just annoying useless spam.
@@RH_-_ You can do all these things just by paying attention if you are a secondary healer. We only used to use stuff like this on raids back in the day, never used it in groups and especially not groups this low level.
Eh. Disagree completely. When you're in a group of randoms, you can't rely on people paying attention. Communication makes things much smoother, and reduces mistakes, thus lowering chance of whipe. When I play my warrior, I'm the main assist, and sometimes it's necessary to switch my target. In order for everyone to be aware I'm switching targets I use an assist me macro. When I'm on my enchanter, I use a macro to indicate when I'm mezzing a particular mob to reduce mezz breaks. Etc etc. Communication is always a good idea, and the fact that you consider this to be useless annoying spam gives me the impression you are not a high quality EQ player, tbh
@@choosetolivefree You can communicate through chat manually, that is how we did it when I played from 99-01 and it was totally fine. These are ridiculous crutches used by shit players. Same with GINA, it should be banned from use on p99. Even simple voice chat is unnecessary. We used to do fear and hate without any voice chat programs at all, text only, and that is how it should be, considering the game had no in game voice chat functionality.

Once rubicite was removed (because of the constant kill stealing and customer service issues), as well as the expansions, the zone was empty. It had a certain uniquene charm. After the revamp to a higher level zone, I don't think I spent that much time there ever again.
I just started an ogre and I’ve been hunting tons of lizards, I think the outside lizards have a separate faction from the inside lizards.
Definitely. I wonder if they're opposing
They are! Volew(outside) goes down as the Tae Ew (inside i assume) rises.
Yep! I spent time on my wizard AoEing lizards outside of CT to raise faction with the lizards inside CT, just so I can use my CT port spells without worry. The only things that will attack you at that point on will be the alligators.
Wow I had no idea!
I remember camping the FT3 boots back on live , I am guessing that was a luclin thing post revamp
I think so
Rubacite armor is OP because chain classes, (Rangers Rogues and Shaman) can wear it allowing them to wear plate mail. Essentially It made all the chain mail gear in game at the time redundant and everyone would be red lol.
Full Rubicite was my favorite look ever.
There's other classic chain armor with the plate look, like Mithril, and some of the planar sets.
Rubicite was replaced by the mid level class armors that went in with Sol Ro Temple.
they didn't like the idea of armor that everyone was after (same thing happened with lustrous russet armor in pofear) so they removed rubicite and replaced it with class-specific armor (like ro, ravenscale, crafted, etc)
My wiz can even get you to us if needed. xD
That’s awesome! What’s your sister’s Twitch? I’d like to check that out. Paw is also on my list of dungeons I’d like to document
@@SageFreke1 Cass_of_all_Trades is the twitch. She's the SK and I'm the shaman. :)
You're welcome to join us in Paw too!
It was good for the most part, although the enchanter died once, and due to network problems came back in the middle of a fight and got killed again :(
It's become one of my favorite zones, now.
That FF IX music on repeat. Perfect
Got so confused when vamo alla flamenco began playing cuz I was playing FF on the side whilst watching. Was way too tired to realise it was the video, so that ruined my brain for a sec
Haha I love pulling music from Final Fantasy! IX is one of my favorites
damn the memories from 2000-02
I loved CT but almost nobody was there. I think it was all the healing mobs that healed through walls that turned people off.
@Lithanify moss covered twig was that item I believe
Cazic Thule is a nightmare. Enjoy watching the memories.
the trolls were eating the frogloks, mithanial marr blessed them, they drove the trolls out of grobb, the trolls went to neriak, after awhile they took Grobb back ....rough short version there
I know this video is a year old. But Plane of Fear, Plane of Hate, and Plane of Sky were all in original EQ release, pre Kunark. Granted those zones were "buffed" later on, but they were always there.
Are you sure? Pretty sure they were added after a few months and weren’t available at launch.
Awesome zone. Been to every pixel.
This is my favorite zone for that level range. When it was busy, you could crawl up to the top mid 30s and not leave until mid 40s If you wanted
They chop the zem a tiny bit and everyone abandons the zone. Shame.
Chitin = Kite - in 💙
Thank you haha
Love the FF9 music as well.
that paladin not even trying to heal you says a lot about how crap they are. there's a reason they have Lay of Hands.
Didn’t Cazic-Thule look like that in the manual of the base game?
Not sure, I don't think I ever saw that manual
I miss working on Dark Forge armor there. Maybe I remember it wrong.
@SageFreke1
Well I cannot fully atest to the exact date the 3 original Planes were officially made available, I do not know who the first 46+ wizard was and when they could officially get into a Plane. Unfortunately shortly after PC charm and fear were removed to balance and griefing issues, and living the life of a chanter on a PVP server became bittersweet
i fucking love the ff9 music, I used to watch my dad play all the time as a kid
Do you somehow have a different skybox for your game? Or did they update it?
@24:43 - That does not look like the EQ sky I remember.
I tried to do this zone. Compared to guk, mobs had way more HP, which made the XP a lot worse. It was also easier to get a lot more adds and wipe.
Had it been just a little worse, I'd have still played it. But guk was so much better, it was hard to justify.
Wish I could get a Cazic group, no-one ever goes there which is a tragedy, unfortunate with the massively top-heavy P99. (- but not that group!, woo!)
CT is my 2nd favorite zone to deadside lower guk. Killin dem gators! Never really cared for 4 corners doh
Damn I'm getting the itch to load up my characters. Usually every 2 years it hits me.
If the cleric dies.... The group sucks. I haven't played in 20 years but I know you don't let your only healer die...
This is the classic version of EQ. This version still exist today?
To a large degree, yes. It’s a server called Project 1999
an iksar sk has 2 options when it comes to who they can worship, innoroock and cazic thul
They can only worship Cazic
From the title I thought this was going to be in Dalnir. Anyway, why is the mana regen so slow? I played through those levels around the time PoP came out and it was slow but not anything like this. Is there any clairty or wisdom items to help with that and maybe this is before mana and SoW pots were a thing?
SoW pots are a thing but mana regen items are hard to come by and really only found on high end Velious stuff.
@@SageFreke1 Sounds rough, think I had snagged some decent items from the Bazaar as there was lots of high levels farming to make plat back then. Had lots of fun on this game though.
Cazic thule was a fun zone, but for a smart mage who can control their movements properly, Kedge Keep was a better zone
I thought my pipes were freezing. Who cares about clicking. Its ASMR to me
Feels weird to watch Everquest and hear Skyrim music.
Did they update CT sometime after the first few xpacks? Looks like Rubicite wasn't removed on p99?
Rubicite was removed from dropping on P99, but if you already got it you could keep it/sell it
And CT was updated during Luclin I believe
Oh my God.
I also listen to midi versions of Greensleeves. (eh, I guess not exactly)
Erudite paladin is swag
Man, Cleric really sucks if you happen to play at a non busy time and can't find group, rather difficult to find decent spots to reliably solo.
With your undead nukes, you can pretend to be a wizard in plenty of places for solo xp, I think?
@@phoenixyn-k4p Yeah, but these places are limited, and camped heavily.
the rubicite camps back in the day got so toxic, thats why they took it out
No offense to the bard but they're absolutely terrible. And before anyone asks, I mained a bard to 58 in classic until I sold that account in Velious era. And then when I started back up on a new account years later I again mained a Bard.
Ya CT is easily the craziest
guy waited on you patiently rather than repping you, and you complain. you get to group and they start moving to camp, you complain. you make it clear you dont know much about the zone, but you complain that they arent CCing (those mobs dont hit hard enough to waste time CCing). then you ninja loot the first fine steel drop and proceed to complain some more while looking thru walls and shit. he should have kicked you. lol
What server are you on?
This video was recorded on Project 1999 Green
@@SageFreke1 sweet I joined green last night, started a wood elf druid and forgot what the priest of discord is so now I'm pvp haha, I'll make my way to qeynos to reverse it eventually
Everything seems so frantic because you keyboard turn and are zoomed in all the way holy moly
So odd that you and I'm sure most people think guk is easier to navigate than here. guk is an underground nightmare to me. this at least is above ground so you can sow. Also a paladin barking orders that gets people killed lol thats just your average typical paladin.
Other than rubicate the loot sucked. They should have also had rotating zem to make zones like this useful
are ya still playing? I just started P99 again
Yep! I play on Green
@@SageFreke1 awesome! just made a monk here so maybe I'll see ya sometime once I get higher!
Ah-Va-Tar

Vindicated
The way I pronounce Cazic Thule and subsequently Innothule is not the popular way, but the way Thule is meant to be pronounced, so it throws everyone off. Like the name Thule or Ultima-Thule, which is funny because in another game I play Ultima Thule is actually used there as its own thing, and the english voice actors BUTCHER thule but all the other language actors pronounce it perfectly (hint: Thule is two syllables).
if it werent for the annoying priest mobs healing from a mile away, from underneath, from behind walls and doors without any LOS .... but no, CT is mostly poop dungeon.
I will never understand keyboard-arrow turning.
Bad bard plays most only 2 songs and one rogue is bad too attacks from the front? Why? When i play with such people i let the teacher out.
Zee-lot?
Calling out heals is really helpful if there is an off healer in addition to the cleric. they need to know if and when to chime in to help.
@@rdizzy1 Ah, so you're one of those guys, who thinks anything that makes people more efficient (and therefore more effective) makes them suck? Haha. "Crutches"? Lol. Tools. They are called tools. Macros were available in 99 my guy. And only an idiot wouldn't use them
you're so SMALL! lololol!!!!
stop moving with the keyboard god damn it 🤣
left click+right click, move the mouse !! this is EQ
or if you must hold W, hold W, but turn with the mouse!!
ok i'm off the soap box now, next person can use it. 😁
First 🎉
The way you people pronounce these .. it’s in-a-Thule swap.. and fer-rot .. and rAthe..
