    Thank you for this good video ! I have a small remark concerning the cleaning of the brewing unit. It is written on the unit in capital letters "rinse with water only. No detergent". I don't know exactly why but when designers write such warnings I prefer to respect it.

    • @yt.myworks
      @yt.myworks  3 ปีที่แล้ว +9

      That's true, you should only rinse a brew group with water when it is assembled. The detergent would otherwise wash out the silicone grease. The plastic parts themselves are resistant to detergents.

    Great video as always! There is one area that needs to be cleaned which is not often talked about - the spout assembly or even the door assembly. There can be a lot of espresso drips and leaks that are trapped and accumulated over time, in the adjustable spout, or in the hollow door panel of some Delonghi models. The normal hot water rinse bursts don't do the trick and cannot dislodge the build up. Second to disassemble the entire thing, I find that espresso cleaning tablets (not descaler), dropped into the manual coffee doser followed by a couple of rinse cycles will help keep the area clean. The descaler doesn't seem to breakdown those build up. Plus, on models with descaling function, the descaling is done through the hot water dispenser, so it doesn't get a chance to rinse through the spout. You'd be surprise the kind of mildew/mold coffee residue slime that can be flushed out that way - it's down right nasty. I have been tweaking the method and found that if break those tablets into 3 equal pieces and do 3 consecutive cleaning rinses, I can flush out most of the build up.
    I own several Delonghi and Saeco superautos and while very easy to make drinks, proper maintenance of these machines are overwhelming. Delonghi is particularly worse than other brands due to their design choices not favoring cleaning. There are just way too many parts needs to be cleaned or kept clean in order to have nice coffee and "clean/healthy" coffee while maintaining longevity of the machine.

      @@elizabethrowlands3585 Hey! It's been a little while since I last did this, but just make sure the little parts that stick out from the main unit, like the long parts that stick out from the gears are tucked in as much as possible and are basically lined up exactly right with the outside. It's kind of hard to explain, but those little arms that come out from the gears that move the central part up and down can't stick out much at all.

    The actual engineering in this is super interesting. Saeco/Philips brew group have much more part with thinner plastic, my bet is this solution from Delonghi is more robust with less moving parts and a more solid case.
    I was looking those maintenance videos to help me decide on which machine will age better and is easier to service by myself and I'm now convinced I'll probably go for a Delonghi. Thanks myworks ;)

  • @DividedStates

    You forgot to clean the ball ventile inside the plunger of the brewing unit.
    There is circular cap in the plunger that looks like it it is forming a cross with a little dot in the middle. It is housing a spring loaded ball ventile. You see it at 2 o'clock (or North-East however you want to see it) in the frames around 4:00.
    You can carefully turn that cap, e.g. with a knife or big slit screw driver. It isn't threaded or anything, but with each rotation the spring will slowing push the circular cap out. When not cleaned regularly, the spring, the chamber and exit to the side of the plunger can get clogged and the ball ventile can get stuck or will have hard time moving once it is all gunked up, e.g. when the mashine isn't used regularly. Be careful though, the small parts can easily be lost.
    You are welcome.

    The piston head. The small valve on the face of the piston can be removed to clean out the channel to the side of the piston. Another method to clean the channel is to push the head of the valve down, use a very small blunt tool, then force water into the small hole in the side of the piston. Not as good as removing the valve but you won't lose the tiny spring. To lubricate the O-rings use a food grease only. If it doesn't say "food compatible" on the pack DO NOT USE.

    ❌❌⭕⭕ Hello, this video is interesting and helpful. Unfortunately in my opinion something is missing.
    There is another large o-ring in the machine located where the extraction group gets pressed upward. In my case it was causing squeaks. To access it you must let the carriage go down and then remove the electrical plug for safety because the leadscrew is very powerful. Good luck.

    I have saved your video for later use, as my unit is brand new, so I appreciate the detail of your videos. I have the De'Longhi ECAM35075SI Dinamica. I’ve noticed that when I turn the coffee maker on or off and the machine goes through the start up or shut down procedure, water also drips into the tray from the left, front, inside of the unit. This water is in addition to water being dispensed from the coffee spouts in the rinsing process (I catch this ‘rinsing water’ in a cup). I brought this to the attention of De’Longhi for warranty purposes and they had me take pictures and then had me send my unit in for repair. I received it back from their repair shop and they said that was normal. My question is whether this is normal or not? Thank you very much for sharing your knowledge base.

    Fair warning, tried doing this with my Magnifica EVO. Slightly different machine, but the infuser/brew unit is exactly the same. Removed the filter and filled the tank with cleaning solution, BUT! Since this machine had already passed hands a few times throughout my family, the hot water nozzle got lost at some point.
    Turns out, this machine becomes a total BRICK without that part... At least when you start the descaling process. Gives the hot water warning plus the error light, and now it's stuck there. Unplugging didn't work, factory reset didn't work.
    So i either need that water nozzle, OR i messed up something when reassembling the brewing unit. Although it DID work after i cleaned and reinstalled the unit, it just crapped out after i started the descaling process.
    Not the end of the world, i guess i'll have to go to a local DeLonghi dealer and order it, and it doesn't look too expensive. But i'm out of coffee until then. So now i only have nicotine and pure hatred to fuel my workdays :c

      @@yt.myworks Yeah, I'm 90% sure it's because of the missing nozzle. It just sucks that it's stuck now, and that even resetting it doesn't work :(

      I'm heading to a local store after work today to ask for a new nozzle :)

    Thank you very much for your videos, it helped a lot. I use lactic acid for descaling. According to the composition of the original recommended descaling agent, this acid is used. What do you think about it? It is a liquid form in a concentration of 80%, which I dilute to 25-50% (composition of the original descaling agent). Of course, lactic acid (1L/7.30€) costs a fraction of what the original descaler (0,5L/11€) - in Czech Republic . My coffee maker is DeLonghi Magnifica 23.210B

    Thank you for your clear informative videos, they are brilliant!
    Quick point regarding this video, when cleaning the piston in the brew group, you left the clear amber coloured crema piece in place, I often find this to be gunky and in need of a good soak, removing it allows the piston/plunger to be cleaned through the hole where it was situated.
    Going on to your grinder disassembly video now, my grinder sounds rather clunky and the grind adjustment is on the finest setting to get a decent shot out. Is there room for adjustment on these by pulling out the piece which limits the setting and bringing it back a few notches to go finer? I don't know anyone who has their setting all the way down to the course setting, seems pointless.
    Thanks again!

    Hello, can I pick your brain with couple of issues:
    -often the piston of the infuser doesnt travel all the way and the puk is not ejected and get stuck there which is a problem when u do your next coffee. I have put some grease on the transmission and on the piston after doing a clean up as shown on your vid, but it doesnt slide easily compared to a brand new infuser.
    Another problem im recently having is just after grinding the bean I hear a wind noise as if the air pressure suddenly dropped and the coffee is very watery/light, the puk is very thin although it grinded the beans for 7-8 seconds, and there is water in the puk container.

    Great videos. I have issues with this machine, but currently trying to fix using your videos unfortunately does not help, so maybe you will have advise for me, where to look for an issues.
    Recently coffee machine started to produce weak coffee, and I've checked that ground coffee is not intact any more (wet and loosen). I've tried to set grinder to 1 and coffee grounds were more intact but some parts was dry and coffee is still weak.
    1. I've tried to change O-rings of coffee press, lubed, cleaned - same issue.
    2. I've tried to clean grinder based on your other video - new issue came when coffee beans are grounded quite thick and not pressed at all (it's like press does not work any more).
    3. I've tried to check grinder and press once more, seems that grinder works fine, press with a new O-rings and lube moves freely, but still thick grounds and not pressed at all.
    4. I've checked cables if nothing is loosen when disconnecting grinder - seems fine.
    Could you advise where should I look for other issues?

    • @yt.myworks
      @yt.myworks  3 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      @Arunas Tubelis if the transmission and brew group are stiff, the electrics always reduce the amount of coffee. If you have greased everything, then you have to prepare a large coffee with maximum strength without coffee beans more than ten times (ignore error message) so that the machine regulates back again. The ground puks should be about 1.5 cm thick when the grinder is set to level 3-4. Otherwise you have to bring the grinder to its basic position as can be seen in this video: th-cam.com/video/OJWguSgyf4c/w-d-xo.html (Note the correct assembly in min. 6:18)

      @@yt.myworks hello. Thank you for the reply. I've gone over everything and cleaned/lubricated it, it is all free to move easily, but still no good. I've been told it might be the hall sensor, so I'll be replacing that and hoping for the best!

    • @bratchley

      @@yt.myworks The hall sensor replacement didn't work. The grinder might have gained a second but can't be sure. The machine has been fully disassembled, cleaned, lubricated and reassembled, grinder refurbished, hall sensor replaced and fully reset. The grinder still only runs for 4 seconds. Completely at a loss for how to sort this now!

    • @yt.myworks
      @yt.myworks  หลายเดือนก่อน

      The Hall sensor hardly ever breaks. The sensor has nothing to do with the grinding time. It is important that when preparing coffee without coffee beans, the setting is set to maximum strength. If all this doesn't help, then I suspect that the motherboard has damage :-/

    • @bratchley
      @bratchley หลายเดือนก่อน

      @@yt.myworks Indeed. I fear that might be the case. On max strength coffee setting the grinder gets to about 5 seconds. Do I need to run beans through it again to get it to increase further or should it go to max whilst empty?

    Which grease do you use for the long thread and which fo the o ring in the piston? Thanks

    • @yt.myworks
      @yt.myworks  ปีที่แล้ว +1

      for the O-rings: OKS Multi silicone grease: amzn.to/3cX39eV
      for the spindle: OKS 470/NSE: amzn.to/3nd5nMb
      The manufacturer is not important, you can also use similar products from other manufacturers.

      @@yt.myworks thanks for your answer I wave used for both of them the first oks 1100 that costs really a lot … next time I’ll use oks 470 for the spindle that is pretty cheaper … how often do you grease your machine? I thought to do it one per year should I Do it more often?

    • @yt.myworks
      @yt.myworks  ปีที่แล้ว +2

      The brew group should be disassembled, cleaned and greased two to three times a year. Lubricating the spindle once a year should be enough.

    hi. can i use coffee oil remover tablet and put it inside the pre ground coffee doser to clean the spout? im scared it will damage the brew unit. i watch some other brand like philips, gaggia clean their spout using this method.

    • @yt.myworks
      @yt.myworks  3 ปีที่แล้ว

      I think it won't work as the Delonghi doesn't have a cleaning program. However, you can clean the coffee spout from below with a small brush. This usually works better than cleaning tablets.

      @yt.myworks  9 หลายเดือนก่อน +1

      Hi, is this an ECAM or ESAM model? With the ESAM, you sometimes have to shake it a little harder to get the brewing group out. It is also important that the machine is in a standby mode.

      Make sure you turned off the machine properly and not just unplugged while on.

    The way you descaled the unit was different from the descaling procedure in the manual.

      @Bedict M Yes, I recommend the descaling you see in the video, in addition to the one described in the manual.

      O-ring 34.9x4.2mm red silicone seal inside 34.9mm outside 43.3mm is the optimal size.

      The best solution is to purchase the original O-rings directly from De'Longhi. Otherwise, I recommend buying the exact same size 35.2x4.2 mm. You can get these on eBay, for example.
