BACKGROUND OF TOPIC
A survey in 2015 by FAO (Food and Agricultural Organisation) revealed that in spite of the
considerable progress made during the last several decades in reducing hunger, almost 800
million people are chronically undernourished. The number increased after the Covid-
pandemic, although we can have a vaccine battling against the deadly virus but hunger
cannot be fought with any vaccine. Climate changes due to global warning have worsened
the situation even more. Recent dry spells, over raining coupled with long winters in
different parts of world reducing crop productivity which in turn can affect us all in health and economics. Scientists are working hard to mitigate these ill effects of climate change
through development of climate resilient crops. Here, we will discuss different aspects of
plant biotechnology which can help us to develop climate resilient crops.
