I tried listening to this as sleep ambience. Instead, as I listened a lump began to well in my throat because the music is so beautiful and nostalgic and perfectly represents what Christmas felt like to me as a kid; a time of wonder, excitement and a trifle spooky at times. A time full of mystery and love and warmth. A time when the cold weather and festive spirits compliment each other in the most beautiful of ways. And finally it reminded me of the fleetingness of life, as life is like a train in so many ways. Like a lonely train on a cold winters night, life steams ahead until it reaches its inevitable destination. Every moment lasting for but a glimpse as the train chuffs on. Every sound and sight, finite. Though I grow older and wiser with new adventures ahead, I think back on the innocence of my early years, like two childhood friends waving good bye to each other at the station as the train pulls away, never to see each other again.
All this is to say that this music and ambience reminded me to cherish each moment since, like even the most beautiful of all trains, life inevitably comes to an end. So cherish each moment of the journey since you don’t know when you’ll here the call for your stop. And when you see those night time glimmering lights at your station and smell the sweet smells and chiming through your ears is the bells of the ticket machines as some young excited passengers board to start their own journeys, and other weary travellers, having reached their destiny, fade in into the glimmering station lights. And as you begin to take your last steps towards the exit, think of what you left behind, where you started in life and the beautiful journey you’ve been on.

as a student in school.. very young. we used to watch this movie... usually every year no matter what grade or teacher... those days have passed... used to watch it with my grandparents.. my parents... or myself alone... every year. I miss this movie... and the memories i used to get with them. I am very happy I get to have such memories.. sitting in the dark classroom... shuttered windows... hot chocolate from the school staff.. every class room blasting this music... through the walls... just the music... the smell of joy and christmas.. Hot chocolate, marshmallows... somewhat of side chatter.. sleeping bags... pajamas... the good ol' days..

Wow this is so true! I nearly died back in 2021. I had a 5% chance of living being in a coma in a vent with collapsed lungs and respiratory arrest and other organs shutting down with severe pancreatitis that went septic (bc my doctor told me it was just a “pulled muscle” kidneys were failing so during my 8 week coma I was also getting dialysis and I was bleeding internally so I was also getting blood transfusions and so much more was wrong with me.) my doctors called my son in and told him I’d need a lot of prayers. I was in icu for nearly 4 months. I am 49 now but my mother told me I “you’re moving in with your father and I. I don’t want you going back to that toxic relationship.” She’s sacrificed so much for me. But your comment brought some pretty heavy tears to my eyes because my dad is ill at 83 and my mother is ill 80 😢😢and I don’t know what the heck I’m going to do without them. I’m lost. Lonely. Frightened. And scared. 😨 I’ve got my many birds and my 3 guinea pigs and I’ve got a son who is 27 but he doesn’t need or want me. He’s too busy with his life and his girlfriend. I’ll have nobody when my parents are gone and that breaks my heart. My man is 15 years older than me and he’s quite ill also with stage 4 COPD (that was the toxic relationship we get along better living separately) I’m always always asking practically begging my son almost daily if we could meet up even for a quick coffee or something he’s a welder making huge money and I am on ssd I tell him I’ll pay I don’t care as long as I get to see you. I live in NY so when those 3 people mom dad and Alan I’m seriously considering of packing up my animals and I and moving to Brattleboro, VT. I miss the old days so much. When I was my son’s first love. When he needed and wanted me. When he couldn’t wait to do things with me. 😢oh well I’m grasping at straws for once was and what will never be I guess. 😢 I’m sorry I’ve written a book here. I guess it feels good to get this out there. And out of me. Maybe. 😢 I miss the magic of Christmas through my son’s eyes.

@@ktnkbdle278 you are almost same age as my father. he lost his both parents and only has his brother and us (me and my brother)
reading your comment made me think about lots of things. i'm so sorry sir :(
i felt bad when i read that you are scared. being alone is indeed scary. i will move abroad alone for univercity and i don't know how to do. (i'm 18)
i wish your son talked to you once in a while. i can never know what's happening in your lives but i think your son genuinely loves and cares about you. but now since he has his own life, maybe he can't have enough time to spend time with you, i don't know.
oh and get well soon. i can't imagine laying in coma🥺 sounds terrifying. my father had a surgery several months ago. i was with him the entire time. the hospital and everything was stressfull and terrifying. (i had my first nightmare ever there 😅)
part of me wants to erase those memories in hospital but part of me wants them to stay. i'm just glad that my father didn't went through those days alone. (it was his very first surgery.)
i wish somehow your relationship with your son strengthens. i don't talk with my father much as well. i'm trying to spend time tho. just today we watched a comedy show with popcorn. i usually lock myself in my room entire day so this is an improvement i can say :')
oops. i'm writing a book here as well :')
yeah it feels nice to let things out. if you ever feel like talking but can't find someone, we can talk maybe. i just don't want anyone to go through these feelings alone.
(by the way, i just remembered this was a video based on Polar express. my father loves that movie as well. i'm happy to see someone else visiting these videos!!!)
      best wishes💌🙂

This movie has been so special to me. I took my wife and young son to see it when it debuted in theaters, and bought the DVD when it came out, for us to watch during the following Christmas celebrations. I believe it to be a parable for the real message of Christmas, dealing with belief, faith, and doubt. I pray that all will “hear the bell” in their lifetime. The movie means as much to me today. My son, now 24, had his wedding yesterday. Time passes so quickly, but the message is eternal…

This video made me do one thing I haven't done in a long time: cry.
I remember getting the lionel polar express train set for christmas when I was 3. I remember when my family was together around the christmas tree, we were happy, my parents weren't divorced, I still had a lot of friends, my brother and I were the best of friends.
We used to have a tradition where we would have a get together with friends and watch this movie. Sure it had some problems, but I loved it as a kid.
Now I'm all grown up, my parents have long since divorced and moved away, my brother and I haven't seen each other in a while, I've lost a lot of my old friends,
But I still watch this movie every Christmas, regardless if I'm alone or not. I still wish to keep that tradition alive, just to remember my family.

My 92 year old mom and I watch Christmas movies all December through Christmas. 2 a week until Christmas week, when we watch one each night, culminating with The Polar Express on Christmas Eve after coming back from seeing the Christmas lights in town. We munch on cookies and treats and drink hot cocoa even though we live in Florida. Then we each get to open one gift before going to bed. In the morning, the tree is surrounded with brighty wrapped packages and we know that Santa has remembered us both. It is magical and we both can still hear the bells ring. We believe and we will forever.

@andrewferrauiolo4618 Without faith in God , you choose to live life without Hope! And hope is a lot to live without! I know you didn't practice any religion when I wrote back to you! Most people think life is easier without it! But it's only more difficult without it when life gets hard! I know God he has walked with me since I was four years old! When you except Jesus Christ, and get baptized you have the spirit of God with , that's the spirit of Christmas 🎄 🙏🏻✨️ You feel it it brings you peace and comfort and happiness! When you turn your radio 📻 on the music ▶️ plays but you don't see the radio waves , but you know it's there because the music is playing! Same thing with God and Jesus Christ, you can't see them but everything around us on earth was created by them! I feel God's spirit and I felt impressed to say what I said not from me but from God! I pray one day you will all know God's love and joy ! I'm sorry if this offended you in any way, but it wasn't my doing. I just listen 🎶 to God!

I remember watching this back in kindergarten on Christmas break. Then I remember being with my classmates watching it in first grade in our cozy pajamas at school. Then by middle school in eighth grade, at that time it was cool to “hate on it” by then. Now I’m in college, and this is probably my favorite Christmas movie of all time. I still feel the wondrous joy that I felt as a kid watching this for the first time.
Coming back to this, I never understood the ending until I got a bit older. And when I finally did, it opened my eyes even more as a child!

When I was in 3rd grade I had a teacher who you knew genuinely loved being a teacher, two days before Christmas break she handed all of us a big golden ticket replica from the movie and told us to bring it in the next day, and I remember so vividly coming to class the next day, she stood at the door with a hole puncher and had the entire classroom rearranged as a mock-train with cardboard cut outs and christmas lights, hot chocolate, candy canes, everything, she went all out and it created such a good memory. This movie and its soundtrack really encapsulates that mystical feeling of Christmas I had as a kid, and reminds me of that teacher.

I see once again I have found a gathering of beautiful, peaceful individuals who care to share their thoughts, feelings, and memories about a collectively beloved topic, allow me to add my two cents as well...
I am much younger an inexperienced in life than the majority seem to be here, only nineteen, but I, too, grew up with this movie, and make it a point to watch this strange, aloof, and wonderful movie each year, I'm a steam train enthusiast, and I love that they treat the Express herself as a character in the story in a way, her proud departure from... oh gosh, I can't remember the kid's name... but the street the main kid lives on, her steam flooding the road when she arrives, along with her daunting, almost alien hums and pressure releases, her daring escape from the crackling ice... it's so rare for these old, beautiful steam powered beasts to be treated as I, alongside many others, so whimsically see them, as living, breathing, absolutely breathtaking monsters, with souls of their own...
My love and enthusiasm for steamers has only swelled since seeing Union Pacific's Big Boy number 4014 in Nokomis a couple weeks back, and that love will only further draw me back to this movie, again and again

This is what I’ve always imagined a beautiful Christmas feels and sounds like. My only truly memorable and lovely Christmas was in 2018. After that my parents weren’t at all invested, my mother even denied it completely due to different reasons. My heart breaks every time I remember how insanely excited I was for Christmas every year up until my mom got sick in 2019. It’s like a part of me got lost and it really hurts not knowing how to get it back. I used to be the most enthusiastic Christmas person in my whole circle. Now that’s just gone. I can’t even watch the polar express anymore because I cant help but get super sad. It used to be in my top 3 favorite movies of all time ever since I was a little kid. I really hope that since I’ve felt this strong love, warmth and excitement for Christmas before, that I’m still capable of feeling it again someday.

First time I watched this was in 2004. I was staying at my babysitters house, it was quiet and I was with my friends. We’d just finished lunch, it was starting to snow, so our babysitter, put this on. She gives us Christmas cookies and made hot chocolate. My biggest memory is when she’d start the movie. She’d call out, “ALL ABOARD!!” and we’d all scurry into the playroom to watch. The woman “rini” , is what we’d called her, her name is Irene Schinder. Yesterday was my 23rd birthday. And I will forever and always remember this movie. And the happy times I shared with rini and the other kids, Year round. But like the little boy, I’ve grown to a adult woman. holidays seem a bit more quiet. But it doesn’t mean the magic is gone. Just lying for the right time. ;)

You know, I really miss how it was like as a kid, Christmas I mean. Really believing he was out there. That those reindeer did fly... That snow was a form of his magic... That he would eat our cookies we left out for him... and that our gifts came from the cold crisp north pole... But, even though I wish I could go back... Part of me is glad I can't, it only makes those moments and feelings ever more special. I am beyond thankful to have experienced it during those moments in time. Thank you Mom and Dad, for the best Christmas seasons. Thank you to my brothers who experienced it with me. Something to believe in. Something that truly shaped who I am today, we are today. Even though I grow older, the Christmas spirit never has left me. The lessons it taught, and the happiness its capable of spreading. I'm still young, but I can't wait to pass what I experienced and learned to my kids someday. Maybe that'll scratch that itch, of wanting to go back, feel it all again.
Holidays are fun, but Christmas... its a lesson. A lesson the world needs more of today. Spreading Kindness, joy, and spirit to those around. I know its early as of writing this, but Merry Christmas y'all. Spend time with your families. Hold them close. It doesn't last forever.

From 2006 to 2009, I worked at Carnegie Science Center in Pittsburgh in an exhibit called The Miniature Railroad & Village. We had an event called The Breakfast Express, every Saturday morning in December leading up to Christmas. People would have breakfast, watch the movie on an Omnimax screen, and then head to the exhibit. We had Lionel's Polar Express running. We also had a special guest, usually Mr McFeely but there were others. One time I dressed up as the fireman from The Polar Express, but without the beard but I did have red hair.

Im very drunk rn in university and all I want is to go back to when life was simple, I only ever feel happiness now at Christmas because I go back to my childhood where everything wasnt so depressing and miserable, I cant ignore the reality of the world we live in but at Christmas I can, I go back to when everything was great and I felt love and happiness, now most days I just feel hollow and hatred. Please I don't ever want to leave Christmas, why is the world so shit?

We feel hope and love at Christmas because it is the celebration of the birth of Christ Jesus. Praying that the love that God has for you would become real in your life the way it has for me and completely changed my life!

Don't loose hope! Praying is so helpful and just hearing what I need to say to the universe/God I think has helped guide me. Hang in there friend! 💪

Buddy....Idk who you are...but I'm 32 with a 1 month old standing in my living room at about 11pm just staring at my first christmas tree as a dad... the opening song hits different... the happiness you're craving comes from the love of a mother and father making christmas magical. The torch has been passed fam. It's our turn for the kids to feel the spirit of christmas. Merry christmas from south carolina

Every Christmas Eve I would watch this with my family when I was little and it became one of my most favorite Christmas traditions that we still do. When I was little this was Christmas to me, and it made Christmas Day even more special and magical.
