I’m definitely team Mike on steeplechase, I love it. I’m a RCT2er and loved seeing the ride in real life, its unique and great fun when all three tracks are open and theres three of you racing. Couldnt pleasure beach build something over the top? They’re a creative bunch.
Would like to see River Caves get a new facade with the waterfall working and theming back. Possibly if they were to remove Steeplechase, a MACK powered coaster similar to Max and Moritz could work really well. I'd like to see Impossible be removed and the Beach Amusements building turned into a new ticket and guest services area a new Intamin Drop Tower would be lovely in FY4 too. Great video. Agree about the River Caves. Unsure what I’d replace Steeplechase with but I’d probably not go with something from Mack. A new, purpose built park entrance is much needed IMO.

Steeplechase for me is remove & replace with perhaps new Vekoma coaster whether it be something like Lech as it's not too big a footprint or being adventurous and look into the flying coaster. Other ride(s) I would also consider changing would be red force out, possibly intemin drop tower instead & making ice blast unnecessary & make way for gyroswing.
Steeple chase is ok but i aggree im 50 now and find it hand to put my leg over the horse ide also change how it stops suddenly and throws u foward i always lean foward anyways so i dont get jerked but its not a bad ride nor is it a brulliant ride and i do think if they removed it comletly theres a lot of land to put a amazing ride in its place.
National was always my favourite coater at BPB, however I went on Saturday and it was awful! Really painful, I will not be re-riding again unless something happens…
Grand National is not an indispensable ride and thus should not be listed. That said, I wouldn't mind it not running for a season for it to be updated and maintained. River Caves can be changed and updated to fit the times when need be. Steeple Chase needs to be done away and has long past it's expiry date. Not to mention it takes up a lot of room.
Interesting, just can't please everyone, and changing as it might offend, for me isn't a reason, changes must be to improve rides and enjoyment only, if it saves on operating costs it's a bonus. However, I love Steeplechase as it's such a personal experience. The Pleasure Beach Express needs interactive dinosaurs around the track like they have at Blackpool Zoo.
Rides at Blackpool Pleasure Beach that should be upgraded/modernised are: 1, the Revolution by having new LIM Induction Motors for the launches instead of the current cable + cart system so the Revolution can be more modern and up-to-date. 2, the Ice Blast, in Oakwood Theme Park, they have a new version of Ice Blast, so Blackpool Pleasure Beach could/should replace the current 26 year old Ice Blast with a newer model like the one in Oakwood have. 3, The Derby Racer, the 72 Key Verbeeck needs modernisation so it can have electronic software with air solenoid valves rather than current mechanical sound book and have new/more tunes put in the organ including chitty chitty bang bang, Crazy What Love Can Do? [Becky Hill], Blow That Smoke [Major Lazer+Tove Lo], Equally Lost [Tove Lo], 2-Step [Ed Sheran], Woman [Doja Cat], +, You Right [The Weeknd+Doja Cat].

I’d re-track the Grand National it’s far too rough. I’d ditch the Steeple Chase, it doesn’t attract enough people, also I think it’s unsafe and quite boring. Especially for the amount of park space it takes up. Very anti-climax. The River Caves is definitely a keeper. A family favourite in fact an all round favourite!!
If they update the dinosaurs part of River Caves, I hope they keep the Lost World 1925 sort of feel to it. And definitely not a Garfield makeover like Kennywood did with there’s 😳
Remove Steeplechase, relocate the carousel to the North park, and you have a large area for two or three new rides. Spread that over 3 years, and build some excitement about the place.
Great video. Grand National I would love to see fully painted up again as it does look a bit tatty. I would like to see the computers removed and converted back to manual operation. Still a shame they increased the height restriction from 117cm to 132cm. Not been back to PB last season as my son loves it and cannot ride it anymore. River Caves - absolutely amazing ride. I love the understated exterior and the amazing scenes inside, one of my all time favourites. Steeple chase - really tough one, a very unique Arrow classic would be such a shame if it went but it does take up a lot of space. I think it has to stay. Nemesis - absolutely right to re-track that ride. Colossus - debatable but needs new trains far more desperately than new track IMO. The rear seats in each train I end up knee capping myself.

After seeing recent reactions to Mine Blower and Zeus, I don't want Timberliners anywhere near the National! I'd give it to GG to re-track and keep the PTCs. Another option is to get a manufacturer to look at a lightweight version of a topper track, could weight be cut from it if it's not designed for inversions like RMC's topper? There's nothing quite like a morning ride on the nash to rattle you awake on a cold morning at BPB and as gutted as I'd be that it would loose some of it's charm, I'd swap it in a heartbeat for a nicely new re-tracked and re-ridable modern take on The National. Imagine those walk on days being able to marathon a butter smooth national for hours it would be bliss!!
Budget a non-factor: replace Infusion with an RMC raptor; retrack the national and new trains for it (even if it means closing it for a season); as for steeple chase, Coaster Studios had a video from a manufacturer who make single rail rides (some have been installed on cruise ships) that could redesign the layout and put better trains on it. I also think there's space for a new indoor ride.

God, it was fantastic! I think my problem is that (regardless of safety etc) I just want to go back to my childhood - and for the pleasure beach to also return to exactly how it was in my childhood.... in every single way. Of course this is not practical. I just miss being a kid and the PB experiences that were associated with it.
Depends where you sit. You go faster on the outer horse but at the cost of feeling more unsafe than you did on the Wild Mouse. And that's saying something lol
I love the 'Grand National' for all of it's rough. I view it as, an old wooden coaster, which is very special and historic. I would never want to see it go. That would be a sad day. I do agree that I only ever see 2 trains (3 at max) running at a time. Remodrnise River Caves. No please don't get rid of 'Steeplechase'. As I have got older though, it is definetely harder, to get on that horse but same as the 'Derby Racer'. Both great rides in my opinion. Bin 'Red Arrows Sky Force' and 'Revolution'.
Grand National will be into its 90th season this year, it does tend to be on 4 trains quite frequently in the summer months. Minimum capacity 2 trains, maximum 4.

Also, what are those hortible old animal statues you see when riding the express near the hotels. They need to be binned as they look dated and bad. Great discussion I think the Grand National was so much improved this year and really enjoyed it but agree the operating system needs improvement. River Caves yeah got soaked at the start on the last weekend and would like some new scenes. Steeplechase scrap it, take the Burger King with it and use the space for maybe a launched spinning coaster from Mack like Timekeeper. It serves little purpose in my opinion except nostalgia and that did nothing for Noah’s Ark which was a great walkthrough attraction.

Agreed on the trains for Mammut and on how dull Python is now! Steeplechase I really dislike but I don't think I can bring myself to remove the last coaster of its kind. I'd sooner an RMC Raptor go where Infusion is, SLCs are omnipresent, Steeplechase is unique even if it's bad. I'm sure new ride vehicles would be possible, something where leaning into those corners is a pleasure not painful!
I do understand the Steeplechase point in fairness, removing it would definitely be removing a big part of Arrow Dynamics history. I just don’t like it 😅
I think there’s a market for coaster re-tracking, the cost of a re-track will be infinitely cheaper than a brand new coaster. I think with the post-pandemic we’re going to see a lot more of it, this is just the start tbh - if a re-track gives the coaster a few more years, i think the parks will take it
River caves ide give it a few big drips and make it mor of a thrill ride and for safty with the drops ide have new boats and seatbelts incase theres children in the boats.
im a massive fan of your channel. Im 51, and remember the mid-late seventies days of the reel, water chute, haunted swing, the monster, old (art deco) funhouse etc. But i have one huge difference of opinion. How can you consider the grand national a better woody than the Big dipper?! For a start, the best part of woodys from that era was the first drop, ridden on the back seat. Grand National first drop is RUINED (imo) by it being NOT a full drop but "humped " in the middle of that first drop! Anyway, my opinion is all in good fun (but still unarguably CORRECT!!) Again, great video guys PS I STILL think that the backwards/return of the revolution (weightlessness over the drop lip - and the bit as you reach bottom of the dip and start going backwards up the loop) provides the best stomach turning, brain rolling buzz of all!
Get rid of both Steeplechase and Red Arrows, maybe add in a flat ride opposite the River Caves and retrack the Grand National. Also speaking of River Caves give it some new theming and lighting too. Lastly get rid of Infusion.
Listing wouldn't stop a retrack of national they would just need permission to do so. 100% agree with removing Steeplechase, it takes up a decent chunk of land and the only reason it exists is down to the fact it's the last one. The elephant in the room is that Pleasure Beach are skint so I'm not sure the finance is there to replace it.
to me: BPB's maintenance team do excellent work looking after their wooden coasters. Yes, nash needs more work to keep the track in good condition. Same as Big Dipper receives. I dont think the track should be reprofiled: it is what it is, a 1930's coaster. Additional banking on corners would result in too much of a change in the hill's height at exit that it's gonna negatively effect the ride layout. it's one of the characteristics of the ride in lots of strong laterals in the final 3 corners. the trains should be improved, same style, 3 rows per car. but should be a way of lightening the cars to put less strain on the track. Steeplejack - its the last of it's kind. and should stay so long as it is able to run. S&S have updated "cars" with a lap bar type restraint. Rivercaves. I agree - some scenes could do with a refresh and seat backs. But, for me, the first ride i think should be removed is Infusion, replace with a Suspended Thrill Coaster. I think I've only ridden Infusion once since it moved from Southport. Or the trains get updated to some of the current Vekoma trains. Second - remove the Dodgems where The Whip used to be. Third - remove Thompson Carousel and replace with a Star Flyer. Fourth - Swap Ice Blast for a taller drop tower or can the tower be retrofitted to be a S&S Combo tower - but in all honestly - a higher capacity drop tower would be good than the current Shot Tower. An Intamin Zac Spin would easily fit either where the wild mouse or trauma towers stood. Not saying it's be a great coaster with the best of throughputs, but it'd certainly be an addition to the line up and improve the view as you enter the park and look down the path towards Big Dipper.

Have you not seen pleasure beach express i went on it second to last day of the season and they've ripped a lot of stuff out even the land rover had gone which as you know has been there a long time my lifetime maybe yours I was pretty surprised because litrally never seen it change lol
Yep, there has been some demolition after you pass under the South Entrance. and like MOD has said, William Hauge and Robin Cook, the land rover and tractor have all been removed.
Basically before 2006 if the queue for the Grand National was back to Burger King it'd have not taken an hour, nowadays it takes an hour from the fountain.
Probably an unpopular opinion, but I wouldn't be sad to see the River Caves go. The current scenes and effects just aren't good enough to warrant the damp bottom and soggy feet you'll have for half the day afterwards. Sorry! 😬
I kinda agree the boats filling up with water isn't nice and not exactly as worth it as Valhalla is. But River Caves is a mixed bag for me personally. Half of the themed areas aren't that good imo the best ones being the Dinosaur and Angkor Wat areas

The PBE dinosaur bit needs updated. If they do nothing else, the stop at the end of Steeplechase badly needs sorted. That jolt can really hurt your back. I'm with Mike on the dismount, Trying with an arthritic hip is not pleasant.
I think dipper needs to be RMC Ino it’s 100 years old but it’s so ruff it’s becoming unrideable at times let it have its 100 year anniversary then RMC it
The Nash just needs a decent coaster company to come in and sort it out, with new trains. Not knocking BPBs team but they basically maintain coasters the old fashioned way. Companies like GCI have the knowledge, systems, tools and experience to make it brilliant.
@@ballbag BPB’s team have the knowledge too, but not the budgets. A lot of knowledge is passed across the industry. BPB engineering just don’t have the time, man power or budgets to do everything they’d like to do.
Retracking is great for the classics. If they brought in numbers and continue to thrill, it’s worth looking after rather than trying to come up with something better. I’ll give my home park retrack list - Nemesis, Wickerman and The Smiler. The rest, I’d get rid of and bring in something new when the time comes.
I love Steeplechase, but sadly unable to ride now due to age 😞 I can no longer get my "leg over!!" 🤣

I lv the grandnational but it is rough so i wouls say rwtrack and deffo new trains with more thicker padding.
If Steeplechase goes, bin the Red Arrows as well and you'd have a big chunk of land for something decent.
To be fair Skyforce’s area would be ideal for a station and queue.

Coasters have to have 1 more block then trains so for example if it runs 4 trains it would need 5 blocks

8 trains on the national? That’s surely a world record for most long trains on a single Coaster circuit, or at least wooden coasters

There's nothing quite like a morning ride on the nash to rattle you awake on a cold morning at BPB and as gutted as I'd be that it would loose some of it's charm, I'd swap it in a heartbeat for a nicely new re-tracked and re-ridable modern take on The National. Imagine those walk on days being able to marathon a butter smooth national for hours it would be bliss!!
Gravity Group retrack & new PTC trains would be an excellent combination. I think the Timberliner trains are “too open” for the Nash.
Budget a non-factor: replace Infusion with an RMC raptor; retrack the national and new trains for it (even if it means closing it for a season); as for steeple chase, Coaster Studios had a video from a manufacturer who make single rail rides (some have been installed on cruise ships) that could redesign the layout and put better trains on it. I also think there's space for a new indoor ride.

I think my problem is that (regardless of safety etc) I just want to go back to my childhood - and for the pleasure beach to also return to exactly how it was in my childhood.... in every single way.
Of course this is not practical. I just miss being a kid and the PB experiences that were associated with it.
Depends where you sit. You go faster on the outer horse but at the cost of feeling more unsafe than you did on the Wild Mouse. And that's saying something lol
I love the 'Grand National' for all of it's rough. I view it as, an old wooden coaster, which is very special and historic. I would never want to see it go. That would be a sad day. I do agree that I only ever see 2 trains (3 at max) running at a time.

No please don't get rid of 'Steeplechase'. As I have got older though, it is definetely harder, to get on that horse but same as the 'Derby Racer'. Both great rides in my opinion.
Bin 'Red Arrows Sky Force' and 'Revolution'.
Grand National will be into its 90th season this year, it does tend to be on 4 trains quite frequently in the summer months. Minimum capacity 2 trains, maximum 4.
Get rid of infusion and put in a log fume or a 4d coaster

Also, what are those hortible old animal statues you see when riding the express near the hotels. They need to be binned as they look dated and bad. Id remove infusion and bring back the log flume... my word, i have so nany memories of riding that as a kid !!

Great discussion I think the Grand National was so much improved this year and really enjoyed it but agree the operating system needs improvement. River Caves yeah got soaked at the start on the last weekend and would like some new scenes. Steeplechase scrap it, take the Burger King with it and use the space for maybe a launched spinning coaster from Mack like Timekeeper. It serves little purpose in my opinion except nostalgia and that did nothing for Noah’s Ark which was a great walkthrough attraction.

Agreed on the trains for Mammut and on how dull Python is now! Steeplechase I really dislike but I don't think I can bring myself to remove the last coaster of its kind. I'd sooner an RMC Raptor go where Infusion is, SLCs are omnipresent, Steeplechase is unique even if it's bad. I'm sure new ride vehicles would be possible, something where leaning into those corners is a pleasure not painful!
I do understand the Steeplechase point in fairness, removing it would definitely be removing a big part of Arrow Dynamics history. I just don’t like it 😅

I think there’s a market for coaster re-tracking, the cost of a re-track will be infinitely cheaper than a brand new coaster. I think with the post-pandemic we’re going to see a lot more of it, this is just the start tbh - if a re-track gives the coaster a few more years, i think the parks will take it

River caves ide give it a few big drips and make it mor of a thrill ride and for safty with the drops ide have new boats and seatbelts incase theres children in the boats.
im a massive fan of your channel. Im 51, and remember the mid-late seventies days of the reel, water chute, haunted swing, the monster, old (art deco) funhouse etc.
But i have one huge difference of opinion. How can you consider the grand national a better woody than the Big dipper?!
For a start, the best part of woodys from that era was the first drop, ridden on the back seat. Grand National first drop is RUINED (imo) by it being NOT a full drop but "humped " in the middle of that first drop!
Anyway, my opinion is all in good fun (but still unarguably CORRECT!!)

PS I STILL think that the backwards/return of the revolution (weightlessness over the drop lip - and the bit as you reach bottom of the dip and start going backwards up the loop) provides the best stomach turning, brain rolling buzz of all!

Get rid of both Steeplechase and Red Arrows, maybe add in a flat ride opposite the River Caves and retrack the Grand National. Also speaking of River Caves give it some new theming and lighting too. Lastly get rid of Infusion.

Listing wouldn't stop a retrack of national they would just need permission to do so. 100% agree with removing Steeplechase, it takes up a decent chunk of land and the only reason it exists is down to the fact it's the last one. The elephant in the room is that Pleasure Beach are skint so I'm not sure the finance is there to replace it.
It’s a shame it’s listed at all, stifles any progression. BPB are always skint but they always seem to find a way of doing stuff they need to do.

to me: BPB's maintenance team do excellent work looking after their wooden coasters. Yes, nash needs more work to keep the track in good condition. Same as Big Dipper receives. I dont think the track should be reprofiled: it is what it is, a 1930's coaster. Additional banking on corners would result in too much of a change in the hill's height at exit that it's gonna negatively effect the ride layout. it's one of the characteristics of the ride in lots of strong laterals in the final 3 corners. the trains should be improved, same style, 3 rows per car. but should be a way of lightening the cars to put less strain on the track.
Steeplejack - its the last of it's kind. and should stay so long as it is able to run. S&S have updated "cars" with a lap bar type restraint.
Rivercaves. I agree - some scenes could do with a refresh and seat backs.
But, for me, the first ride i think should be removed is Infusion, replace with a Suspended Thrill Coaster. I think I've only ridden Infusion once since it moved from Southport. Or the trains get updated to some of the current Vekoma trains.
Second - remove the Dodgems where The Whip used to be.
Third - remove Thompson Carousel and replace with a Star Flyer.
Fourth - Swap Ice Blast for a taller drop tower or can the tower be retrofitted to be a S&S Combo tower - but in all honestly - a higher capacity drop tower would be good than the current Shot Tower.
An Intamin Zac Spin would easily fit either where the wild mouse or trauma towers stood. Not saying it's be a great coaster with the best of throughputs, but it'd certainly be an addition to the line up and improve the view as you enter the park and look down the path towards Big Dipper.

Have you not seen pleasure beach express i went on it second to last day of the season and they've ripped a lot of stuff out even the land rover had gone which as you know has been there a long time my lifetime maybe yours I was pretty surprised because litrally never seen it change lol
Last time I did it was early November and they had started to move stuff around, be interesting to see how it looks next season
Yep, there has been some demolition after you pass under the South Entrance. and like MOD has said, William Hauge and Robin Cook, the land rover and tractor have all been removed.
Steeplechase always has a queue though, allegedly longer than OG Nemesis at times.

Basically before 2006 if the queue for the Grand National was back to Burger King it'd have not taken an hour, nowadays it takes an hour from the fountain.

Probably an unpopular opinion, but I wouldn't be sad to see the River Caves go. The current scenes and effects just aren't good enough to warrant the damp bottom and soggy feet you'll have for half the day afterwards. Sorry! 😬
I kinda agree the boats filling up with water isn't nice and not exactly as worth it as Valhalla is. But River Caves is a mixed bag for me personally. Half of the themed areas aren't that good imo the best ones being the Dinosaur and Angkor Wat areas
New boats and new improved theming will be for the best, just got to hope it happens 🤞🏼

The PBE dinosaur bit needs updated.
If they do nothing else, the stop at the end of Steeplechase badly needs sorted. That jolt can really hurt your back. I'm with Mike on the dismount, Trying with an arthritic hip is not pleasant.

The Nash just needs a decent coaster company to come in and sort it out, with new trains.
Not knocking BPBs team but they basically maintain coasters the old fashioned way. Companies like GCI have the knowledge, systems, tools and experience to make it brilliant.

Retracking is great for the classics. If they brought in numbers and continue to thrill, it’s worth looking after rather than trying to come up with something better.
I’ll give my home park retrack list - Nemesis, Wickerman and The Smiler. The rest, I’d get rid of and bring in something new when the time comes.
Wicker Man is quietly retracked in places all the time I believe 👀
