    Love your modulation to different keys, very impressive. I play Misty often, along with about 30 jazz standards just for the fun of it. I try to always vary the tempo and key if possible, along with different layer options on my Roloand FP-7F. Being a self taught piano player I am always inspired by your skill and playing sensitivity, not to mention your singing voice.

      How do you manage to play the melody in your right hand? Do you play it completely by ear or do you retrieve it by thinking of the scale of the key you're playing in?

    • @brianpetersen3429
      @brianpetersen3429 5 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      @@1000lino I usually play by ear, creating both single note and right hand chords for variety. At times I will play a base line with the left hand when I split the keyboard with a walking acoustic bass on the left and piano on the right.

    I love this idea. I often do this with new songs I'm learning. I'll start with just bass motion, then add skeleton chords, then standard voicings then custom ones, quartal and maybe quintal voicings, then start arpeggios, then get the melody tight with some LH voicings then start to loosen up the melody and open it up for some improvisation. That helps me choose different scales I might want to use when improvising and come up with some ideas that play off of the head whether those be rhythmic or melodic. Mainly though, it's just a lot of continuously looping through the changes and trying to see the tune from all of the different sides and facets. Playing through it repeatedly I think is the only real way to really internalize a song and make it part of yourself so you can really play a version of it that reflects the original song and your personality and interpretation at the same time. Great video, thanks!

    This definitely is the biggest brain breaker of all your vids. I listened to this the first time in bed, not trying to stay awake, but trying to keep pace, and I got brain tired enough to fall asleep without playing. There's no groove to help you keep up, like in the Cmin for 25min vid, this is real focus.
    I was just thinking the other day, "So many videos say 'all 12 keys'. Really? "
    I'm still learning to read. That's my focus here. And I don't have a lot of time, so 12 is 11 too many right now. LOL
    But this excellent. A lot of knowledge here. Keep it comin' professor.

    One of my favorite of your videos. It got me motivated about things to try, but wasn't so deep that I was just lost. This is a case of where I'm sure you'd like to expound on some of the amazing choices, but by just plunging forward and covering more ideas it worked better (and there are *other* places to drill into understanding/explaining arpeggios, etc.). But the limited narration that _is_ here is all fine. All gold, actually. Just the right amount. In the end, an ideal balance and pace to make a "motivational video" at least for me.

    • @Bill_Woo
      @Bill_Woo 5 ปีที่แล้ว

      40:53 deciding to go after that high E instead of only the D-flat. That's the kind of thing that turns me on. That E is so elevating and potent vs. the D-flat - it makes your shoulders twitch while you were merely nodding along. It's feels like a master move, the kind of thing great lead guitar solos and great prog exploited. Like the crescendo note on a passionate air guitar expression. Fist slam in the air and "oh hell yeah." Yes. That E instead of the D-flat :)

    If I transcribed a tune to all keys and used my transcribed sheet music would it help me? Or should one try to do this without sheet music. It seems monumental to try and do that. But I really like the idea of doing this with simple but nice tunes. This I think would help my hand independence very much. As I struggle with walking baselines very much.
