Karen James I'm on that page right now! had to stop and watch this... im watching and thinking wow you're holding it together well lol! he's the best!!
I finished his book and immediately watched this, and for some reason it brought me to tears, I just find it so meaningful to know what he was feeling when he did this and the struggles he went through to finally get his big break
From a struggling 30 yr old to now 10 years later and one of our best comedians around.......SO glad this was his big break and made him the genius he is now..........
@@zachsingh1 this was his first big break! Just read his autobiography and he struggled to get the audience going but did well in the end 😊 it's a great read!
I'm on the last chapter of his book, and you honestly don't realise how nervous they are just before they perform. He did a great job, but it's quite obvious, it's something he was born to do. Bravo!
Just read Michael's book on my kindle and the audio version too, so had to watch this! I am nervous for him but you'd never know he was nervous. I feel myself willing him on then can see his excitement and relief as he goes backstage....Michael McIntyre you are an inspiration!!
I came here within minutes of finishing listening to his self read autobiography audio book. It's amazing to realise what was on his mind immediately before coming out on stage and what had led to this moment, with the knowledge of his career since. Outstanding. Such courage of conviction in the face of multiple adversities. And now, in 2021, he's probably the biggest household name in comedy & comedic hosting of light entertainment. What a star. Thank you Michael for all the laughs so far and for many more to come.
Just listened to Michael reading his own book! Really enjoyed it and had to come here to see his big break from the audience side of the stage ... tough crowd! How amazing his rise to fame after a tough start. I was a teenager in the age of Kenny Everett... that brought back some memories too ...
This is a masterclass in how to turn around a gig that isn't going well. He explains it all in his autobiography. He should have done all the walking stuff at the start, but it wasn't catching fire, so he jumped to stronger material which went great, and returned to the walking stuff to finish. Great work Michael.
Yep just read the book and had to see his big break. Great read, I would have sworn he had been silver spooned all his life. How wrong was I and how good is he.
aww i just finished his "audio book", absolutely brilliant! wish it was longer though, and a lot more detail of after he started becoming successful....such a nice guy and so much determination to keep trying and trying, a lesson for us all to learn in life!
I read Michael McIntyre's book and enjoyed every single bloody page! What a life he has had with glimpses of fame all along the way with interesting relatives (Hellooo Darlliiing!!) I am so glad that now he is part of the nations comedians and he will no doubt be loved for many years and I wish him all the success because, quite frankly he deserves it! ;)
So glad that I came across this particular video today. It seems from all the comments that this was Michael's big break? And I can't tell you why it took me 15 years to find this fantastic comedian but it did. But he was so worth the wait! I have never laughed so much as I have in the last month just binge watching anything I can find on Michael McIntyre. He just brings a smile to my face with every video I watch of his...and maybe I didn't find out about Michael until way later is because I am from the US and he seems to perform mostly in the UK. No matter. Michael McIntyre has become my very favorite comedian!
Same as most of you I have just read his book and have always been a big fan... Travelled to Belfast to c him and he is amazing!!! Hats off to u Michael u did it.."go get em"
Saw this first time round and missed some jokes coz I was dying of laughter. Watched it back on TH-cam and loved it. Followed him ever since. Just read the book and its great to see. Def doesnt look like someone under extreme pressure to succeed. Great lesson in life.
I love the awkward applause at the start; nobody knew Michael at the time, he'd only got onto the bill because of his agent, but an audience member during that that awkward applause would never have thought he would become the world famous legendary comedian that he is..love you Michael, your a legend! -3
Just listened to his audio book. He read it so well made me laugh and sad I felt his emotion in his voice. I wud recommend. Can be found on youtube 7 hours autobiography of free listening 👍
I haven't read the book but I remember seeing this on the TV when it was aired, it was a breath of fresh air for the show that year. I remember thinking "Who is this guy? He's a hilarious!", and he hasn't shut up since haha.
I remember watching this when it was first on, and as I'd never heard of him I was just going to turn the channel, but as soon as he did that walk joke I carried on watching cus I was in stitches. I loved it! I can't believe it was so long ago.
Hi everyone lol I too have just read this part in his fabulous book, I think Michael is just adorable and admire him even more after reading his book with all his struggles.
Listened to the audiobook and had to see this. It’s so impressive to see that at the beginning, when he started with his walking joke, no one laughed, so he changed strategy and did it at the end instead. Everyone should read or listen to the book! Even more fun to listen in my opinion as it is Michael that’s reading it!
I'm here after listening to his memoirs. Michael Mcintyre is amazing, but surprisingly, this performance is so much under Rhod Gilbert's influence. Since this appearance, MM has grown so much. I saw him this summer and I was in stitches laughing. It is still nice to see this gig, which was the great breakthrough.
His DVD night at the Hammersmith Apollo has sold out, I'm kind of sad that I didn't get tickets but I'm happy that Michael finally getting the success he so greatly deserves
lol gotta love the people who, just like myself, who have read about Michael's slot at the Royal Variety 2006 in his book and then came on here to watch it! Can't beleive it's the same thing, ready that he was so nervous and then you watch this and he looks so calm!
after reading his biography it's really wierd watching this and knowing how he felt about it and what was going on in his life behind the scenes and everything. ahh he's just so amazing. BIG LOVE FOR MICHAEL!!!
I used to HATE it when comedians repeat the same jokes at different gigs but reading his autobiography made me realise the importance of it.. the first book i have read in 7 or 8 years (just finished it) hope he becomes a worldwide phenomenon and makes Britain proud!
wow I've been wanting to see this since I read his book a couple of weeks ago - the 'big break'. I certainly couldn't tell he was so nervous and new from this performance. Seems everyone else landing here feels the same way lol
Heeeeeelllo Daaarlings! I also read the book as you may have guessed, and i really feel like he's an old friend who i've known all my life. It's so inspiring to see how determined he was and dedicated to comedy, i'm so glad he's made it and i can't wait until his tour in 2012!!!!
Amazing what he went through to get his big break and really makes you think about other comedians that went through similar things also, if you've not read or even read his autobiography I HIGHLY recommend the audio book as it's read by Michael which just makes it 10 times better. Massive inspiration.
Life and Laughing is such an amazing book! Just finished it! Now I feel like a proud parent watching this :') What an inspiration, fucking love this guy
After reading the various comments on here, I too will join in and say I also read his book. It just comes to show that you can achieve anything if you work hard at it. I never thought he was unsuccessful until I read his book but look at what he has managed to achieve in just a few years :) the people in the audience obviously have no clue what real comedy is. Loved it and he's a genius :)
If you loved the book, buy the listening CD from Amazon. It is brilliant, unabridged and read by the man himself!! My daughter loves him and is dyslexic, so is hysterical listening to the tape instead!
Remember him saying his walk routine at the start got "no reaction whatsoever" in his book but he moved swiftly on to the radio traffic routine. Interesting.
@StripesndSuch I'm nearly finished the book. At first I found it good but a little slow but it's just got better and better, now finding it hard to put down. Having just read the chapter leading up to this 2006 breakthrough royal variety performance and living the moment and the triumph he felt I then had to come and check it out on TH-cam.
I've just finished the book and rushed here to see this too, knowing what he was going through. He is without doubt my all time favourite comedian
what was he going through
Karen James I'm on that page right now! had to stop and watch this... im watching and thinking wow you're holding it together well lol! he's the best!!
girly girl 432 Read his autobiography. It explains it all. He went through hell to make it.
Just reading his book and agree with you
Who else is here after reading the book XD?
In 2017 no less!
Yes and it is just how he described it, he tried the walk routine at the beginning it didn't work and so he finished with it!
Yeeees! Michael's big break!
lol. Me
blondebecka mee
I finished his book and immediately watched this, and for some reason it brought me to tears, I just find it so meaningful to know what he was feeling when he did this and the struggles he went through to finally get his big break
From a struggling 30 yr old to now 10 years later and one of our best comedians around.......SO glad this was his big break and made him the genius he is now..........
You can see the exact moment it all changed for him. “I could have got broadband.” Brilliant bloke and can’t wait to see him live.
Reading his book so had to look up his big break he talked about
God it took the audience ages to warm up. He must have felt like he was dying up there for the first minute and a half
It looks like the crowd noise was edited out for some parts. I don’t know why. Or Maybe he was early in his career cos he’s absolutley hilarious
@@zachsingh1 this was his first big break! Just read his autobiography and he struggled to get the audience going but did well in the end 😊 it's a great read!

I am just reading this book
That day a legend was born.
Very true .
Just read Michael's book on my kindle and the audio version too, so had to watch this! I am nervous for him but you'd never know he was nervous. I feel myself willing him on then can see his excitement and relief as he goes backstage....Michael McIntyre you are an inspiration!!

Had to find this after reading the book! It's funny how this didn't get as much laugh and he gets nowadays :) well done Michael :)
Cewyyy I did exactly the same thing - I got the audio book which was brilliant!
I did the same as well. It was a great book. Really enjoyed it. Made me laugh a lot. Glad he made it. My fav stand up comedian by a mile.
And me
I finished reading his book earlier today ... I bet his mum is so proud of him, he's an amazing talent. He did what his dad said 'go get em'! x
Just listened to Michael reading his own book! Really enjoyed it and had to come here to see his big break from the audience side of the stage ... tough crowd! How amazing his rise to fame after a tough start. I was a teenager in the age of Kenny Everett... that brought back some memories too ...

what a great book! just finished it this eve and didn't want it to end. had to find this clip. what a superb human being. long live the mcintyre!!!
It's amazing how big he's become in just a couple of years since this, but he so deserves it :)
Yep just read the book and had to see his big break. Great read, I would have sworn he had been silver spooned all his life. How wrong was I and how good is he.

This was the first time I ever saw him and I remember thinking he was hilarious. Been a fan ever since.
i saw this before reading his autobiography and didnt realise this was his big break
watching it now is so different
thumbs up if u agree
oh look! it's a baby michael! he doesnt age I swear!
God! Michael looks so young there! And he hasn't changed one bit in the last few years! Its amazing!
He must have been SOOOOO Nervous! I LOVED his book and feel so proud watching him in this performance.
Just finished reading his book and you would not believe he was under such stress before this set. A wonderful comic!
I read Michael McIntyre's book and enjoyed every single bloody page! What a life he has had with glimpses of fame all along the way with interesting relatives (Hellooo Darlliiing!!) I am so glad that now he is part of the nations comedians and he will no doubt be loved for many years and I wish him all the success because, quite frankly he deserves it! ;)
I think he's improved a lot since this people expect his humour as well now . Which helps.
i think he was already a pretty well rounded comedian at that point
I've always thought the hardest act in show business, is the stand up comedian, there are very few who are gifted like this man.
I've watched all of his recent performances and then this one. Wow! ,He's come along way! Good job MICHAEL!
Best part of this is the posh woman laughing loudly when he is talking about chip and pin. Superb!
good old Michaeldoes not need to be telling rude jokes, just normal everyday stories, great!
It was in Michael McIntyre's self biography: life and laughing: my story. =)
So glad that I came across this particular video today. It seems from all the comments that this was Michael's big break? Just finished reading his book an now completely understand how he was feeling
Started his book on Sat and finished it today, hands down the best book I've read! =D
Now he's free to play with the audience and do what he likes he's hilarious.
His book really brings home just how hard this guy worked to achieve everything he wanted. He I'd just great!

8 minutes that changed a mans life!

Totally agree. I think 90% of the hits here were after reading his book. What an amazing person :)
HILARIOUS :D Remember when i saw this on bbc, beginning of something great ! Thanks for posting x

Wow! Tough crowd!
I've finished your autobiography. It was a big big big moment for you, that's why i want to watch this video. Michael, big big big star.
He's my favourite comedian of all. Time
Life and Laughing is such an amazing book! Just finished it! Now I feel like a proud parent watching this :') What an inspiration, fucking love this guy
His comedy always makes me laugh. over the years i've watched him you rarely hear the same joke twice. his christmas special put me to tears.
The bit about the travel news had me in bits haha....michael mcintyre is quality!
The first 3 minutes the audience was dead. But bit by bit he won them round. He’s never stopped growing his popularity since.
@2oucheMusic thanks for that, i've got it tucked away for christmas now, can't wait to read it ;)
The audiobook was amazing
I can't live without him, I feel like that! I
Absolutely hilarious.
It's a real shame that the crowd were unresponsive.
He didn't get nearly as enough laughter as he deserved.
Brilliant comedian.
Loved it and he's a genius :)
that is a BRUTAL crowd. what else would you expect from the british royal family.
Also watching this after reading his book, hes a dam good comedian so glad he got this break :D
First time him, he was so funny, I wanted to watch it again and again!!
The best bit is the loud posh laugh when he is talking about forgetting your PIN and asking for half of your food!
wow, this audience just have no idea how lucky they are... "it's too late for me," had me in tears and tears :)
Michael McIntyre is the best thing to ever happen to Comedy. Ever
if i was in the crowd i would be crying !! michael is the best comedian !!!
I absolutely adore him :D
aw, he looks so happy!
@StripesndSuch I'm nearly finished the book. At first I found it good but a little slow but it's just got better and better, now finding it hard to put down.
