Welcome to my channel! This is a music reaction channel. For the longest time, I've loved creating content on the internet. I started off with a gaming channel right here on TH-cam, which eventually turned into a Twitch gaming channel, but as time has gone on I've evolved into doing other things on TH-cam. For years now I've wanted to create a music channel on TH-cam, and recently just figured "why not?", so it’s time to give this a go! Give me any suggestion you have for music reactions, and I will do my best to get around to them. As music has fallen further out of my life, I figured this would be a great time to get reintroduced to music.
If you enjoy this video and my reactions make sure you subscribe to the channel, like the video and comment down below which video you would like to see me react to next.

This is a great comedic video. Chevy Chase is an original SNL member. The backstory to the song, according to what I've read, is that Paul and his first wife, Peggy, were at a party and the host was introducing them as Al and Betty. It's funny how Chevy thinks the bongo stand is a table. Sets things on it and they fall right through. Paul Simon is so talented. Love this song and video.

I love how that joke is continued with Chevy eventually reaching over to pick up his drink again, but of course, it isn’t there. Paul plays the dejected second banana in his own video so well, too.

This was from Paul Simon's stunning 1986 Graceland album, which made stars of a number of previously rather obscure South African "township" musicians. Did what Stan Getz did with Brazilian bossa nova in the 60s or Ry Cooder with Cuban son in the 90s. That bass lick near the end of this song is one of the best ever recorded...
Paul Simon was often much more about the actual sounds of words than their meaning, when it came to lyrics. He was nicknamed Rhymin' Simon...
Ladysmith Black Mambazo was a township harmony group. They're heard all over the Graceland album. Thanks to the exposure Simon's album provided, they became well known, and sought after, outside South Africa, and my favourite recording of them is on the song Lullaby, recorded by Josh Groban. Check that out, it's exquisite.

The album this is from, Graceland, was made in South Africa during apartheid. Paul Simon took a lot of heat for breaking the boycott, but he collaborated with several Black African musicians and singers, giving them exposure and an audience that never would've heard them otherwise. The background singers, a Black African a capella group called Ladysmith Black Mambazo, toured with him around the world, and got a recording contract of their own as a result.

Paul's solo discography is very extensive, but Art Garfunkel solo had some good ones too - my favorite being his 1975 cover of I ONLY HAVE EYES FOR YOU, which went to #1 on the US adult contemporary chart. For Paul Simon, try GRACELAND, 50 WAYS TO LEAVE YOUR LOVER, LOVES ME LIKE A ROCK, SLIP SLIDIN' AWAY, LATE IN THE EVENING, STILL CRAZY AFTER ALL THESE YEARS..... and the list goes on .....

Paul is very influenced by different music styles from around the world - has been ever since the Simon and Garfunkel song "El Condor Pasa". On the Graceland album he became fascinated by music from southern Africa, particularly South African zydeco. Many of the instruments and vocals on the album were by members of South African band Ladysmith Black Mambazo. It's an amazing album - as are most Paul Simon albums, both with and without Art Garfunkel!

Got to see Paul Simon on the "Graceland" tour, where he had more of a World Beat feel and backing band that was much more eclectic than his S&G years. He had the group Ladysmith Black Mombazo with him, a sort of combo of The Temptations and Gregorian Chanting, very, very cool. A truly international concert, and a great evening in The Spectrum.

Paul Simon did his concert in Central Park and was honored by Mayor Dinkins for all he has done for the people of NYC. It was the last major concert at central park, as from there on either the summer stage was used. Or the field area only allowed up to 75,000 to attend a show. Up to Simon, Central Park held unlimited concert spaces.

A man walks down the street
    It’s a street in a strange world
    Maybe it’s the third world
Maybe it’s his first time around
    He doesn’t speak the language
    He holds no currency
    He is a foreign man
He is surrounded by the sound, the sound
    Cattle in the marketplace
    Scatterlings and orphanages.
    He looks around, around
He sees angels in the architecture
    Spinning in infinity
    He says, “Amen!” and “Hallelujah!”
I love these lyrics only he left out the part about a man adopts his only son Franco...or maybe that's the "Hallelujah" part...
Eighteen years ago my wife & I met 5 month old Francisco Jose Smith in a hotel lounge in Guatemala City...the foster family didn’t speak English and we didn’t speak Spanish. The interpreter never showed up so we communicated by me drawing pictures of my wife’s questions. While we played International Pictionary so to speak it was love at first site and the single greatest day of our lives...so as time flies now we continue to be thankful, to be a family, and to rock each others world.
    Amen! Hallelujah!

Chevy Chase, who as a jerk and disliked by almost everyone that worked with or knew him, didn't deserve to be in this video with the great Paul Simon. I'm sure Simon realized what a mistake it was in the years after. The Graceland Album which this was on, is a masterpiece!

My take is that this video is a playful parody of the resentment/bitterness Simon felt whenever the praise for his smashingly successful songs was heaped on Garfunkel (for vocals), rather than Simon, for composing it. This video takes it one step further where it's a lip-syncing imposter who steals the spotlight away from him, and mocks Simon's contribution.
