    I’m going more towards kitchen style knives as well, I was unemployed and home with my daughter, so the most useful knifes were my traditionals and thin flat grind or hollow ground moderns worked best. Now I’m back working and the same knives are good for everything else.

      @@adrianjagmag G'day mate, I get your point; but come on man, if you do the business at work or in the outdoors..........
      In fairness there comes a point where you'd even go for a fixed blade; if you need it, you need it, if you dont'[, you don't.
      On the other hand you can do heaps with a SAK, dendends what need you have..Cheers Duke.

    No one asked, by I'll post it anyway - my 5 favourite "skinny/slim" knives are:
    - Kizer Ge (or Genie) in carbon fiber
    - ZT 0707
    - Kizer Feist W
    - Benchmade 940-1
    - Spyderco Smock
    And a special mention for the Benchmade 4600 Phaeton (felt a little wrong including an OTF on the official list, but the Phaeton is quite "skinny/slim").
    Great content, as always! If I'm keeping track correctly, you've been tagged by Nick Shabazz on a "5 user knives"... waiting anxiously for your reply!

      G'day mate, always cool to hear others perspectives.
      I guess as a large hand guy like Pete, slim is one thing, but slim and wider, or indeed overall beefy comfort is another;
      I would suggest; personally;
      Recon 1 drop point in S35
      Gerber Gator premo in s30, not exactly slim though, lol
      Buck110, DLT 2018 version drop point in S35, not so slim either.
      Buck 110 Slim pro in S30
      Metamorph G5 in 14C
      Honourable mentions;
      CS Finn Wolf
      Yeah, CRKT CEO
      Anyway mate, "horses for courses" as we say, keen to see the response to the tag too.
      Cheers Duke

    i have very few folding knives, and prefer edc fixed blades.
    that being said, i came across the (unfortunately discontinued) cold steel broken skull. a friend of mine wanted
    one, and i got him one as a surprise because he is just a nice person and i wanted to make him smile.
    through this process it went through my hands and i immediately knew i wanted one too. a week later i had two.
    point is: it is really skinny, provides tons of cutting edge in decent steel, and is really light (sub 90g for 4"/10cm of sharp steel).

    • @Jb429421
      @Jb429421 3 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Yeah,
      The broken skull pretty much ended my knife obsession. It was/is my edc. Every time I bought a new knife and carried it only a few days before switching back to the cold steel. I finally got tired of adding to my pile of unused knives and just enjoy the utility of my broken skull. I bought a new one for backup that still sits in the pile of unused folders because my first one is still doing great. 👍

    I just recently got in in but my Shiro 111 carries like a dream. A little under an ounce an inch for a 4.37” blade and that low profile flipper tab just minds its own business.
    It certainly helps that the fit and finish is impeccable and that the action is just as good as my Arius.

    Civivi Imperium is great for a thin one with some different handle material options. Front flipper and studs, somewhat usable forward choil, nitro-v blade with a nice stonewash that with thin stock that is ground well. Under 70 bucks US. Mine sees a lot of pocket time when I want something thin and capable that I can also mindlessly play with.

    Good choices. I'd add the Civivi McKenna in G10 or Brass, and the Ruike 865-B is a great budget option. I bought the Lazar in brass, and didn't like it, as i found it was blocky and heavy in hand. I'll have to try it in G10.

    My two favorite skinny/thing knives in my collection are my Kershaw Wild Wild Turkey (ats-34 blade & titanium handle) and my CRKT Ripple (Acuto+ & steel framelock version). Both are a bit of a compromise in dimensions, with the Kershaw being a little thicker at the sacrifice of some height and the CRKT being super slim but tall enough to be reasonably comfortable in my XXL sized hands.
    I guess that I would also put my 1970s Case Stockman in that category but it just doesn't get as much pocket time as it used to.

  • @Case16710

    I believe Advanced Knife Bro calls this dimension “tallness”. But I suppose the opposite of “tallness” is “shortness”, which is probably a reference to another dimension.

    Yes, portability, that's the reason because I EDC a Delica in several steels: VG10, ZDP-189, K390 or some days in CPM S90V. A Para 3 is too wide, specialy with G10 scales and a FRN Chaparral is conveniently skinny but has a too short blade. I'm not fan of Butterflies and alike, not enough lenght for most tasks.

    Yo! C&AG&O; thanks for ur channel. Cool video share, and I agree, nothing wrong with a little knife khat... I love small / thin knives, but my old ass arthritic hands don't. But I refuse to give up my 940's and 945. They are too great to relinquish. I like my thick meaty knives like the Giant Mouse ACE Grand and even the smaller Biblio. Hinderers and designs in that ilk are ideal. But the slender rather long GM ACE Sonoma somehow feels ok with my kracking knuckles and slides into ur theme here. Thanks again. Keep em coming.

    Living in Canada, l find myself changing the knife handle materials on my EDC knife depending on the seasons. In spring, summer, and autumn, any handle material works for me, but in winter l usually switch to FRN, G10 or micarta handled knife so as not to have the worry of wet hands sticking to freezing temperature metal knife handles. Just as we in the north know the story of the kid sticking his tongue on the frozen metal flag pole (often from personal experience), so too do we sometimes worry of wet fingers and gloved hands sticking to knife handles in winter...causing an embarassing and even dangerous situation.
    Just another reason to change up our EDC.

    Spyderco Kapara is the best all-round knife I’ve used... the ZT0460 is the best carrying knife I’ve ever used, but I disliked cutting with the trailing point tip of the blade. The 940-1 is good, but the Kapara beats it, although I wish Spyderco/Philips got rid of the SS liners and went full CF.

    • @Luke-mz5zt
      @Luke-mz5zt 3 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      How would the kapara lock without a liner? It's kinda mandatory with compression locks. Alistair uses Titanium in the customs and it's fantastic.

    • @ElCapAddict
      @ElCapAddict 3 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@Luke-mz5zt You could omit one as its just to mirror the lock, and the compression lock liner could be reduced to a minimal footprint and cut into a relief in the CF like on the PM2 or MBK’s. It’s probably not practical, because maybe like 10% of Kapara owners would even complain that it feels a little heavy but that is what happens to everything after using BM’s CF folders like the 940 or bugout. The Kapara is truly great, it is the only knife I would replace with the exact same model if I lost it.

  • @bunyipdan
    @bunyipdan 3 ปีที่แล้ว +2

    Guess everyone has there own opinions and these are your favs, but not sure I would past up a Spyderco Ikuchi (even the Kapara to be patriotic), others like Quiet Carry Waypoint, Sandrin Torino, Tactile Knife Co. Rockwall, MBK Slayback for my choices.
    Have you ever tried scout carrying in the front pocket, my King Gee jeans have front pockets with a 'thumb' extension (for want of a better description - if you put your hand in your pocket there is a space that allows your thumb to rest open), this makes a perfect place for me to scout carry thin knives in my front right pocket. Very discrete, very comfortable, secure and out of the way.

    • @CNYKnifeNerd
      @CNYKnifeNerd 3 ปีที่แล้ว +3

      I tried so hard to like the Ikuchi, but the execution of the compression lock totally kills it. They should have done it smock style if they were completely set on making it a compression lock.
      The Maxace Persian, however, is pretty much everything I hoped the Ikuchi was gonna be when it was first announced.

      G'day Dan, cool to hear your favs mate, already posted mine up there somewhere, lol.
      Trying to understand your point on the King Gee trousers, (haven't had that brand in a while).
      Are you say'n there's like a pass through slot into your undies layer to keep a small knife horizontal and restrained ? Cheers Duke.

    • @bunyipdan
      @bunyipdan 3 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      @@eyeofthetiger4184 Not a pass through more like a thumb extension.......rather than just a plain pocket ther is bit of an extension of the pocket towards the zipper......think of as mitten like internal pocket sleave/liner (same pocket), fits knife shaped objects and supports them nicely......not a fashionista so difficult to explain.......works great though, and scout carry in front pocket is the best kept secret IMHO.
      I havent been able to pull the trigger on a 940 either....would need a blade regrind and custom Ti scales......but that would blow out the price even further....Im strugling to keep my limit below 300

    • @eyeofthetiger4184
      @eyeofthetiger4184 3 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      @@bunyipdan G'day Dan, thanks for the reply mate, so ...try'n to get my head around it; its like small pocket integral but a perpendicular add on to a normal up and down front pocket ? If I understand correctly, that's a fantastic idea !!!
      With the 940; I tend to go quite large in the folder realm, almost like a small fixy replacement or at least a decent back up. At the other end of the scale, a lightweight slim fella, more as a top pocket job for a night out, just to have something if the need arises and defence aside it's amazing how often it comes in handy
      No doubt its a good knife but yeah man, pricey for a small utility folder when you really don't need to spend that much elsewhere for the same capability. Don't think i've ever spent near 300 on a folder but I do have a couple 200+. To be honest if I actually do get anything else, I'd probably spend on another large fixy as an extra option to avoid necessarily having to carry a hatchet.

    • @bunyipdan
      @bunyipdan 3 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      @@eyeofthetiger4184 Basically correct.....its just the main pocket liner happens to be a mitten like shape with space for the thumb to be extended towards the zipper. So instead of just a simple 'U' shaped pocket, its a deep 'U' with a lateral extension (all one piece) towards the zipper. I can only think it there to accommodate one's thumb when your hand is fully buried in your pocket.....however I have found it works great to scout carry my thin knives.
      Yeah I have been slowly creeping upto 300 in search for a little more quality and corrosion resistance.....bit of a tropical swamp monster (hence the bunyip tag).
      My fixed blade go to is a 12" duku chandong parang, or a Khukri if I feel the need to go tacticool
      Hope that helps, Cheers

      Not sure it's his style. It definitely fits this brief and is a great knife. A lot nicer than a few on this list.

    Hadn't considered the phone component. When I used to bother owning a phone I always had a belt clip/case for it. Now the keys are in the right and the knife and pen are in the left. So I hadn't considered the real estate freed up by not having a phone.

      G'day Jack, fair enough mate, I haven't quite got to the stage where I can do without a phone, not for the phone, more for the data and music, lol. The ol' keys are better on the belt for me especially with a car fob, but that's "bogan" as we say, though I dont give a shit, its more practical lol.
      Ru right handed, ? I would have thought a knife/pen on your predominate hand is the go.
      Cheers Duke.

      @@eyeofthetiger4184 I am one of those fully ambidextrous weirdos. Handedness is a concept I always struggled with. I do whatever with the hand closest to the task. When writing on a chalk or white board I just hand the chalk or pen off to the other hand rather than side step. I do some things more often righty as finding equipment (holsters, sports gear) for the right hand is easier and some times cheaper.

      @@turing2376 I'm from the Era when phones we're nailed to the wall in the kitchen. When you went out you went without a phone. Scary, but people would just come to your house and knock on the door to see if you we're up for a chat or popping out for a curry. Mobiles came along in the mid 90's, I was in my 30's by then. So a cellular phone-less life isn't the horror story some might find it. To clarify I'm not a boomer. The boomer generation ended Dec 31 1965. I was born January 1 1966, so I am amongst the first of (if not The First) Gen X.
      Weird flex, but ok.

      @@jacknemo8021 No worries Jack, what a great asset. Must be quite an array of advantages. Playing AFL here, most of us have to learn it, well the specific skills anyway. Have you ever played "football" of any flavor ? i.e. would you be just as happy on either foot too ?

    Thanks Pete! Aren’t we humans strange? I never, ever carry anything else in the same pocket as my knife. Mind you, tradie pants with about a dozen pockets make EDC easy - one dedicated pocket for each item!

      Clearly light EDC blades and will handle what 95% of what people do with their knives. Isham's knife sale figures show that many don't share your opinion.
