Georgia has it all! From beaches, islands to mountains. She is home to every branch of the military, including the Coast Gaurd. Home grown Peaches, peacans and even bricks are made in Ga.(red clay). You just missed the second oldest city in America on your drive south to florida. NO, the oldest city in the USA is not Plymouth Massachusetts, which most people think. Nope, It is St.Marys Ga, a little coastal town tucked away in the southeast corner of the state. You just passed it driving down 95 over the Florida/Georgia state line. St.Augustine Florida is the oldest city in the USA. St.Marys Georgia is where the war of 1812 ended. Also, home to kingsbay Naval Submarine base. Beautiful coastal community with live oaks and Spanish moss. Lovely place. Lived there for 30 years. We are now retired and bought a home up in the beautiful Georgia mountains. Blessings!

Saint Augustine is the oldest European city in America. There are cities out west that are older. A couple of them. Other than Saint Augustine pretty much the oldest city in the south is Charleston. Or Beaufort. And they are more historic than anything in Georgia. And South Carolina is a big military state in Georgia grows more peaches than Georgia and we have mountains and beaches, etc. as well. Ashley Georgia doesn’t have much beaches, but South Carolina has beaches along the entire coast. I’ll take South Carolina over Georgia any day :-)!

Unless you’re sick, why would you care? I wouldn’t want to live anywhere near that shit hole city known as Atlanta. You could also get some type of rare condition where even Atlanta didn’t have a specialist. That’s kind of a weird arbitrary reason to live near a city. I live in Charleston and we have some amazing doctors. Atlanta? Never. Jacksonville? Never. It’s not so bad around Charlotte, but I’d never live anywhere that wasn’t on the water.
I missed the part where he said indigenous people. There’s no such thing. Back when humans first started we were closer to having one big continent. The continents drafted mankind crew and expanded in migrated. Back then there was no such thing as Africa. It was just part of another big piece of geography. we are all immigrants. We are all nomads. People like that. Have never read a history book. They don’t understand that there wasn’t even people in northern and South America until the last Ice Age. They probably don’t even know that horses weren’t here until the Spanish brought them. Spanish, Portuguese, brown people that actually killed about 90% of the indigenous people with small pox long before white Europeans got here. Most people don’t even realize that indigenous people even in the 1500s had no idea what a wheel was. In fact, most cultures around the world couldn’t figure out the wheel, whereas other cultures had it for thousands of years. Then again most people still think Civil War was about slavery. So much of what we’re taught in school is lies and propaganda.

Oh I am glad that you enjoyed it. Come to Florida and enjoy our citrus. When I visited Scotland, I tried IRNBRU. Loved it! Between that and the best scones that I ever had in St. Andrews. We love in Titusville, Florida (we are right across from the Space Center. You may be able to watch a rocket launch. Welcome to Florida😀

The fresh fruit you find in a store (and many shops) has been picked before it ripens. While that increases its shelf life and makes it easier to transport, it means the flavor of the fruit never matures the way it would were it left to grow on the tree/bush/vine. The best tasting fruit is always going to be that which is picked after fully ripening and delivered to you that same day.

We use to go from Savannah towards Augusta GA, and there was a Peach orchard for self picking. We would pick for the whole family. Somewhere around 20-30 bushels during the trip. They tasted great right from the tree. That was 40 years ago.

Love when the guys in trucks bring the Georgia peaches to NJ in the summer. Our peaches are great but the Georgias are devine for a couple of weeks.

Michigan peaches are great too. Surprisingly (or maybe not) some of the best peaches I’ve ever had were in Utah,

Was driving to pick up horse feed and the day was sweltering. No AC in the truck. Got a big old peach from a roadside stand. That was the juiciest, sweetest Peach!

He should go to Gafney, SC and see their peach water tower. Drive past it and a pond, and you will see a huge music store, at least it was there the last time I visited. In that parking lot, you can see the peach water tower above the treetops across the pond. It makes a beautiful photo. The peach water tower even has a sheet metal leaf, all painted perfect colors.

Drinking ice tea & coffee from a mason jar is a very southern tradition (particularly with poorer people who often brew their own).

I live in the Golden Horse Shoe in Ontario Canada. I can't imagine living anywhere that doesn't have tons of fruit. Peach juice alone is so good in smoothies & our strawberries are much better than from California. Theirs are bred for size & to pick too early. Ours are picked when they're ripe . Good you were there when they are in season.

Peaches hold a somewhat similar place in American hearts that Mangos do in Southern India. Peaches are slightly easier and a little less messy to eat, but can be just as delicious, unpretentious, and egalitarian in spirit as mangos.
Both can be eaten neatly with the right utensils and a little skill, but to paraphrase my late Uncle, Colonel Lingus (USMC), "the best way to enjoy it is to just get in there ...if you dont get a little messy, then you aint havin enough fun".
    Wise words. 😜

My mouth was watering watching that. I thought for years I'd had a good peach before until one day when I stopped at a fruit stand. The juices dripped off my elbow and it was heavenly. So....don't judge peaches from the crappy ones you get at grocery stores!

When I was a kid, we used to get South Carolina and north Georgia peaches. You had to lean over the sink to eat them because there was so much juice, and they were so sweet. Homemade peach ice cream on Grandmama Rogers’ big front porch in Moultrie, GA, is the best dessert I’ve ever had.

Alabama also has some great peaches. In Clanton, AL, there is Peach Park, and a water tower shaped and painted like a peach. So many great peach products in that area.

Like most fruits, there's different types of peaches. White colered flesh, yellow/orange colored flesh, clingstone, freestone etc. I love them all if they're fresh off the tree. The little flat Saturn/doughnut peaches are one of my favorites. I'm from N.C and years ago there were several huge peach orchards around my area. Unfortunately because of urban development, most of them are gone.

I agree with the lady below. I live in Georgia and one of my favorite things is to stop in peach country (actually called Peach County) and have their homemade peach ice cream. It is sinfully good!
