I've been fly casting since 1965 so I still have a lot to learn. I've also been retired for the past 19 years and have gone fly only for the past eight years with the majority of my fishing being in saltwater and I have found the best thing is practicing for 120 to 150 minutes a week with two or three 600mm (2ft) targets at different distances in or under different obstacles with the most important action being to keep total control of the line with the hauling hand. I usually cast right handed and I have recently taught myself to cast left handed which highlighted the importance for total line control.
The other thing which helps is practicing with my 6'7" 1pce 11wt while sitting on the ground. Yes it is the stick I use a lot when fishing from the Yak or Scanoe.
    Cheers and tight lines. BM
