After 20 years of keeping and breeding ball pythons I have learned two things. First, here where I live the only thing I need to do for most is to wait for it to rain and throw them together. If they don’t go I leave the cage dirty and that usually does it. The other thing I have learned is that what works for me here where I live doesn’t work for other people in other regions.

Great Video Gavin. Interesting you mentioned temperatures. I tend to breed my large female Pastel Lesser every other year. The time before we had the hike in energy costs I used to heat all the royals kept in vivs by ceramics. That season she produced 9 eggs all of which went on to produce 9 healthy babies. Due to the high cost of energy I switched the 9 vivariums over to mats. So the "ambient" air temperature was not much more than the room which dropped down to 15c over winter nights as we didn't run the central heating. In this time I paired her up with a young male, and she later produced 9 eggs and (again) all produced viable hatchlings.
It just goes to show how hardy these snakes are. None have developed any RI, all have retained their appetite, taking large weaner rats every 14 days (other than when breeding the female which was fed weekly to build her up as normally each clutch of eggs weighed in at just shy of a kilogram)
Great video. I'm a colubrid guy but find your videos interesting none the less. Have you noticed that barometric pressure affects the willingness to breed? With my colubrids, I find if a low pressure front is moving through, its like an aphrodisiac to the males. I've found a barometer to be invaluable in the Reptile Room. When the pressure drops, I'll open the windows and give the vivs a good spray, it sets something off in the male. Just wondered have you noticed a correlation between the 2 things in Royals?
Pressure is definitely something to pay attention too..... I like pairing when I know there's a storm coming

Thank you..... between 40-50 gram asf once every 5 days when breeding or once every 7 days when I'm not breeding

Hi, thanks for your support by watching the video..... I normally put a male with a female once a month..... a female can grow her follicles between 5-10mm a month..... so any thing from 4-8 months
