    There is a mod for this called "Wizfast" that lets you increase the combat speed far beyond what the game lets you (in regards to your comments around 25 mins in).

    A very nice video ! But I have to say something about it. Here it says : "Wizardry 8 by Brenda Brathwaite." Brenda wasn't solely responsible for Wizardry 8, as many of Sir-Tech's leading minds worked on the game and shared the work of designing the game. Even Robert Sirotek himself made this abundantly clear in an interview with Matt Barton. Robert said : "Brenda was not in charge." It would be really disrespectful to the other designers to say that Brenda alone is responsible for Wizardry 8 and that is definitely not the case. If you could name one person who had some kind of leadership over the entire project, it was Linda Currie.

    Matt its great to see how much more confident youve become as a speaker and presenter as your videos go on from the beginning

    I wholeheartedly recommend for anyone who is new to the Wizardry series to start with 6 (Bane of the Cosmic Forge) since you can import your save to 7(Crusaders of the Dark Savant) and from there, import your save to 8.
    Of course, you can start from anywhere if you don't want to play three (very long) games. I'm still in the middle of 7 and plan to continue in 8 with the same party. This kind of feature is something I wish I could see more often in games, that sense of adventure with the same group you created and watched grow is amazing.
    I can't wait until I manage to move on to 8. Until then, I've got a world to explore in 7.

    My favorite Groucho Marx comment was in response to a lady who had 12 kids on his television show. He asked why so many and she said 'I love my husband.' Without missing a beat he said, 'Lady, I love my cigar, but I take it out of my mouth from time to time.' Excellent show by the way.

    Ahhh, the Wizardry series.. Truly a series from another time. Back when you had to read the manual to figure out how to play the game. Nowadays you're lucky if the game even has a manual.

      I use spreadsheets and notes when playing it.

    Excellent video. I'd never played the Wizardry series but it reminds me of the Might & Magic series. That beer smells fishy ... har har har.

    This was my first (and currently only) Wizardry that I played from beginning to end. I can't remember what choice I made in the end but it was a pretty cool ride.

    anyone who plays this game should use the wizfast tool, a quick little fantool that lets you set the combat speed to x60 or whatever you want.

    I think you said that you could only use the mouse to move, well you can't use the wasd like you said, but you can use the arrow keys easily. I usually just turn with the mouse because it works well, and otherwise use the arrow keys. (At least in the GoG version and the original one)

    I've watched a playthrough of this game before, and it seems like a great game. I mean to get it and play through some time. For me, this remains more playable than previous Wizardry games, where the "hardcore" mechanics slow the pace of the game down. It's just unfortunate that it seemed to have been too little too late for the series to reach a larger audience. Myself, I don't really care, per se. My tastes aren't mainstream, obviously, as a lot of games that don't do well are some of the ones I love the most. But, I'm not going to lie and say I don't like nice graphics, cool cutscenes, and great music in my games. So it's a shame when a company puts out a game that's right up my alley and has all the bells and whistles, but I don't even hear about it. By the time I find these games, the company is usually out of business already. I don't know if it's my fault for being too casual, or if it's just the nature of the industry.

    Late to discovering your videos but a few comments on this one: First I bought Wizardry 8 within a few months of when it first came out and paid about $20+ tax at Software etc. IIRC. I saw it many times end up in bargain bins for $5 - $10 later. I was thoroughly shucked when I saw it on ebay for over $50. Secondly, while W8 is IMO the very best game in the series it is no where near as difficult as Wizardry 7 (to say nothing about even earlier Wizardries such as W4). Most of the difficulty of W8 stems from the horrible (one of the very few drawbacks to this game) level scaling nonsense that won't really figure until you leave the monastery. I think I had to reload a saved game one...maybe two times before leaving the monastery in the dozen+ times I have played this game in the last 16 years or so and that was not due to difficulty of the combats so much as my making dumb decisions on party creation or experimenting.

    So is Wizardry 8 the best game in the Wizardry series? It's one of those series I've always been meaning to get into, but have never really known where to start.
    ....
    Also, Matt, mind if I ask a question? Think you'll ever tackle games and/or interviews with the "middle era" of gaming? Things that are old enough to be forgotten, but not old enough to be classics? Games like Mechwarrior 2/3, Age of Mythology, Rise of Nations, Homeworld, Freespace 1/2, etc?

    • @MattBarton
      @MattBarton  10 ปีที่แล้ว

      I'm sure I'll get around to at least some of those.

    Good episode. I've not played any of the Wizardry series. This seems fun but a bit tedious. Which episode would you most recommend to a newcomer to the series?

    • @MattBarton
      @MattBarton  10 ปีที่แล้ว

      I guess it depends on how retro you want to go. The first one is an undisputed classic, but you might want to start with Bane of the Cosmic Forge or this one.

    i want an rpg where any configuration of classes in a party is able to complete the game. and every weapon class has many awesome weapons. too many times swords are favored by the devs. i also want more options on my appearance.

    • @MerlosTheMad
      @MerlosTheMad 9 ปีที่แล้ว

      Well, any party class configuration can complete the game easily enough. Wizardry 8 was designed with that in mind. You can mod your portraits in-game to use your own custom ones, but it iiis a pain to do.
