I'm so glad I just watched that! Currently landlocked in Johannesburg but literally feel like I just went on a trip to Namibia. That was insane! Thanks
Big boys don't cry...but I fought back a few tears after these guys cut loose that seal from deep cuts from that fishing line, and shook hands in mission accomplished.... That guy with the net is a good man and hero. The wild life looks absolutely awesome down there. Great photography in this video. Thanks to all involved for sharing your adventures with us and the rest of the world. You guys are bringing us the highlights of your life and a a great show of life there in Namibia.
30 years of travelling and living in Indo, i’ve had my share of barrels..i once got a wave that saw me barrelled 3 times for 3-5 seconds at a time...i went into mental meltdown..lord knows what a 15s barrel does. Thanks for taking us on the journey Brett. One day you’ll you’ll get old like me and still see these waves in your mind’s eye, and they will give you goose bumps as you relive them, replay them and still see individual droplets and colours..thats the beauty of surfing, the really Really good waves/sessions..you never forget them. Can’t wait to see the next vid..
I am so with you on that raindogred. I am in the 2-4 second barrell class going way back as well. Watching these young bucks brings back every droplet and color as you say. Without the rash !!! LOL It's amazing how you can remember 1 swell and one individual wave from 35 years ago. And when your buddies remember it the same exact way you know it was special.... Great stuff here Brett...Thanks !
Instant respect for helping out the seals!!! We need more guys out there like you, bringing awareness to our incredible oceans and all of the creatures we share it with. Excellent video!
Donkey bay is such a gem .. great vid! Just the joy of it. Really and then it's icing on the cake when you travel so far to Namibia to be an angel for that seal. Sweet trip. Unbeatable really. God gets the glory again!. Thanks for sharing it. Pure joy all around.
hi all... have to say that the people here on this journey makes you feel so good- just seeing the surfers so stoked, makes me feel very good and brings me back to my own past surf trips around the globe... you just cant beat the feeling and those happy faces are priceless...
Hey Brett. This is by far the best surf vlog ive seen. Period. Its really superb in every way. But i have to say a really big thank you for including the part about rescuing the seals. Big respect bro. Love your work. More please ✌🏼🤙🏼❤️
That is sick footage. Thanks for the share man...absolutely insane waves. Also great to see conservation helping the sea life too. Looking forward to part 2.
ho brah that was sooo frikkin SEEEEK I have to talk like I'm still living on Kauai just to come close to accurately describing it in words... And yeah I'll second that I swear it felt like a ten minute vid I can't wait to see part 2 I nevah seen da kine so big cuz. Okay that's enough of that. For real though, always love your vids but this one was special for sure, your stoke is contagious.
Love your videos, I always watch the whole thing. It's real treat to see what your going to do next. I am 58 Yes young and in some ways wish my days had some video, yet in some ways glad they weren't. Lol. Can't wait to see the conclusion. Much love, peace
It's crazy how shallow on the shoulder you can paddle for a wave/ still get on it/ then STILL have a 15 second drainer ride, after wave is already freight training in from outside , what a magical goofy footers paradise. Safe travels to all 🤙
This was worth every minute of watching! Love the POV view from inside, so mesmerizing...I just got out of the water completing my 2nd surf after a 5 month dry docked. Fun stuff here in Dominical, Costa Rica! I can only imagine what your body must feel like after a full day in the water. I bet you slept good that night? Looking forward to you next edit. Pura Vida!!
I’m only 7 1/2 minutes in, and I had to comment on these absolute LEGENDS for doing what looks like SUPER sketchy work, to try and help these seals with all that trash 🤦♂️
That 35 minutes went by fast! EPIC!!!!!!! Your gopro shots in the barrel are so good. I mean, just beautiful. I've been surfing for a few years now. Life goal is to get barreled. Your shots have me amped to step up my game and get in there! Thanks!
Man that was amazing seeing them saving that seal and his buddy's ,,, always remember your in their play ground when your in the line up , when you start your barbecue on the beach ,,, your in their playground so tidy up after yourselves ,ALWAYS ALWAYS ALWAYS don't give the man an excuse to bad mouth the surf community or spoil it for others , and help out where you can , nice one Brett lad Respect, lol did ye go into a trance in the barrels first section that you missed the second, cool
Cyrus Jo I don’t have any... you paddle out so far away from people filming. GoPro footage of the paddle out wouldn’t look like anything but splashing water the whole time.
Mental! Sickest vid I've watched in while. I'd say that southern Africa has 3 of the best breaks in the world and this is one of them without a doubt after that footage
Brett, that was one the best clips I’ve watched on Skeleton Bay. Cudos! That was awesome!! Also, tell Rob Brown to get a GoPro! Rob Brown: Do not waste these opportunity’s to document some of the most awesome events of your life! I’m 65, I only wish we could have GoPro’d back in the day! Jus’ sayin....
As a Cape Town surfer for many years, I totally loved this. The seal rescue segment was totally rad, glad you included it! This wave is epic. Next time include more drone footage - that captures the surfer skill, movement and power of the wave better than the in-the-tube shoulder cams. Are there any drones that fitted with Wyze tech to fly ahead of the surfer like a static land-based Wyze unit?
I would have used more drone and land footage, but I gathered up all I could. No one had any other drone shots of me. I love the land angle the most but nothing shows the surfer riding it better than the drone for sure.
Epic Brett! As the realization of being 53 sets into my body. The mind is still there. Thanks for keeping my stoke alive. Welcome to Ecuador anytime.(Shhhh some uncharted breaks) Rob too. Tell him... Uncle Culps is proud of his core-ness. hahaha
OK Mr Barley- Here is an interesting question for you and your subscribers.... What Right hand wave would be the most equivalent to this in the world? I've never been there, but how about Nias?
There is a wave... but can’t say where. Look up “Naxto Gonzalez right point” Nias doesn’t even come close... it’s a short wave compared to a 2km long point. Really amazing on a different level though.
@@brettbarley OK- I watched the video- It looks killer, but not as good as Skeleton Bay- However, this is a really tiny sample size... I mean if surfers knew about this spot and it was checked frequently, who knows how big a swell it could handle and how good it could get....
I got your performance and the way you perform in this video to show that Skeleton is not a wave to subestimate. Congratulations for your video, for your performance your chalenge man. Thank you so much. you do provide, and i hope that God always provide what we need together like a sl way special and maybe racional kind of life
Brett. Amazing wave riding. it reminds me of Maalaea on days when we were young w no crowds and pumping 8 ft. Same driving, no break surfing. You my friend are amazing in the barrel. just keep pumping. 💯 👌 God blessed you!
Really great video, thought I was there. You, riding those wave tornadoes (wavenadoes) it seemed forever. What a gift you got from the surf Gods. Thank you Brett.
Good job my friend watching out for and taking care of the sea life! I would like to think that folks in the fishing industry don’t lose nets on purpose but I don’t think they worry as much for the wild life as they do about having to buy another net! I’m glad to know there are folks out there like y’all who take the time and risk to help these animals out! They sure as hell didn’t ask for a net embedded in their neck but we are still the problem!
