Thank you for this! I am just about to move onto 16 acres with 2 large of bare paddocks. This course is priceless and it’s so generous of you to share online .
Hi, in our are, we can get up to 10-12 cuts per year in irrigated areas, 6 - 7 in non irrigated areas. The main growing season is from September to April. Dry season lasts for 6 months.
Hi Guys, Thanks for sharing your experience with us. A couple of questions: 1/ What do you use your horses for (meat, companionship, eco-tourism, manure production...?) and 2/ Where does the grass production fit in the early succession stages of your system setup: was it your first crop from barren land or did you start with fertilising, green manure or any other crops before seeding the grass in? Thanks heaps !
Mate, go for guinea grass, no doubt. Check out GreendreamsFL. Pete Kannaris has been recently experimenting with it: th-cam.com/video/uWXtsZ7vAN0/w-d-xo.html
Agroforestry Academy I’m watching your information-filled videos now. I’m on the 2nd module.. is there a tropical plants list for such integration and companion planting ?
@@AgroforestryAcademy i am impressed on how we have the wrong idea about it. i always thought that would be kind of impossible to grow smt just like that but thinking further it makes total sense to me
Hi How do you rate sugar cane in the system? I know not so easy to feed out to your horses (I can relate to that although ours and the cows and goats love it chipped) It would also have to be cut selectively but I wonder if overall biomass and the thicker sweeter canes would be of some special benefit?
Hey You can easily insert sugar cane into the system, as it withstands (and likes) a bit of shade. But for feeding the animals, elephant grass performs so much better in every possible way: it produces more, has better quality and is less demanding with regards to fertility. So we usually go for elephant grass and guinea grass (for when the systems gets too shaded for the elephant grass)

Can you guys share little more info on grass management? How many cuts or harvest per year. What is the growing season and how long is dry season?

I live in zone 10a in South Florida, what is a good grass that I can use in my system? I need to find a perennial one that grows fast.
