On the contrary, its relation with the US has ruined US relations with virtually the entire Islamic world, it attacked the US before (at least twice), conducts the most intensive spying activity on America of all other countries, habitually sells US tech secrets to China, pulls it into wars, never sent troops to fight with US troops (in their aggression over Middle Eastern countries). I can't see any benefit to the US in all of these. Also Israel is a Jewish state, where non-Jews are second-class citizens, and only god knows what the non-Jews in the occupied territories endure every day; the US is a liberal democracy. So even that goes out of the window.

About defense, nations throughout history used allies to bolster their defenses. And Israel didn't ask the US to put boots on the ground. So Israel is defending themselves. But likewise, Washington should stop meddling how Israel should win their wars. I don't remember Israel saying to the US after 9/11 how they should or shouldn't conduct the war in Iraq and elsewhere.

She was a 12-year-old Palestinian girl who lost a leg in the airstrike that killed her parents, brothers, and sisters. She was in the hospital recovering and was interviewed by journalists. She said that she wanted to be a doctor when she grew up so she could help other children like her. She'll never get to grow up, though. She died when Israeli forces shelled the children's wing of the hospital that she was in.
