Great video Raul. Thank you. Its all about living within your means I find. What's funny is some people will buy water from a shop, but most homes have good clean water supply, why not use that. We already pay enough for it and in theory the more you use it, the cheaper will become surely. Seems like a good idea to me.
Tescos services sell off their unsold sandwiches etc for pennies on an evening. used to go to the one off a14 nr cambridge for that. Used to do coffee at Cromwell serices both ways a day, with biscuits it was costing me 10 pound a day.
True - Friday evenings is a good one after the butcher's section has closed they get some tasty portions of fresh meat going cheap and you can buy skirt for next to nothing and make a casserole but if you are on your own,you may end up dumping it, after about three days....!! (Like make the casserole of casseolet at home 🏡)
How I save money on the road.... £20 food warmer from eBay and take leftovers to heat up or batch cook cheap meals. It also cooks ready meals. Aldi strawberry flavoured water, cheap in 4 packs. Have a travel kettle, make your own coffee. Look for a Greggs and warm up the pasties etc in the food warmer. Or as Raul says Maccy's if you can stomach it. Tip for Maccy's, customise your burger with something like extra cheese or take something out, they have to cook it fresh for you.
In some places water is just as expensive as petrol that's madness. Considering you have to have a oil rig in the sea and drill it and transport it then make petrol stations to sell it and then employ someone to take payment... yeah and water is more expensive..
There's no harm in you having 1 or 2 Big Macs every week Raul🍔🍔. Although you say you don't really exercise, your job is very physical on most runs. Your pal clearly needs to be left in the charge of an adopted granny for a few days to learn about catering for himself and money management 😉😀 Regarding always checking the spare tyre pressure; it's just in such an awkward place since, in my case, accessing it means emptying the entire contents of the boot. Thanks for another video mate. And a interesting topic. Might be good for new drivers to get some hints. Its not always easy to think about everything. A hint from me is that, if you are driving long distance to Norway, always bring food from abroad. It is crazy how expensive food is over here. Of course you can find a bit cheaper stuf in the supermarkets but in general I would bring my own food with me. We live quite close to the Swedish border so we are going on trips there to buy food. Almost half the price on most of what we like to eat. And even if we have to drive for 30 minutes to get there it is a lot of money saved every trip. Over to cars. I got a 2007 Ford S-MAX 2.0 tdci. It is old and begins to be quite crap actually. But it still runs and I always do almost all of the repairs and servicing on it. There is a lot of money to save on doing that. And it is not that hard either if you just are willing to learn. And I always get a good feeling when I am done. I save money and I can brag about fixing it my self. 😂 Anyway. See you next time. Stay well and drive carefully.
I remember when I was going on the nordic countries in my truck especially Sweden the food was very expensive compared to Germany. Never been to Norway but I would love to visit one day. Wish there was a ferry from the UK but it seems that they are not making that route anymore
DFDS had a ferry route from Newcastle to Kristiansand some years ago but it was canceled. So the only way, by car, from the UK to Norway is to drive to Holland and get on the ferry there. A new line that just started. Or drive to Denmark and get on a ferry. There is also a ferry from Kiel in Germany to Oslo. Or you just have to drive through France, Belgium, Germany, Denmark and Sweden to get here. Eazy, peazy, lemon squeezy.
As I work away from home all the time I must admit that I find it difficult keeping milk and eating cereal in the van for breakfast. Same for making sandwiches in the van for lunch(totally do able but a true pain as obviously not many meats can survive in the heat for a week and not poison you!). And cooking an evening meal is even hard with no cooker. And working in winter the cold meals don't heat you up when working on a telecom mast haha However the best trick I have found is keeping a very large hot flask of water, instant coffee, coffee mate, McDonald's sugar straws and milk to make my own coffee on the road. Saves me a fortune and I find that it tastes as good as a McDonald's latte
There was a Rumanian guy worked at our place, his name was Mircea (not sure if spelt it right), he was a really nice guy, but exact same as you never spent a penny unless he had to lol.
Get a thermos, keeps the water hot for half a day or more. I could never be bothered with shopping around or comparison sites, until... I finally tried it and got a way better deal on car insurance. I then started looking at all my utility bills and got better deals (for the same conditions or better) on all of them. I now understand every bill I pay, what the deal is, what the tariff is, bonus amounts and so on. I check each one from time to time and I saved a huge amount of money doing that. I have suggested other people to do the same, but they say they can't be bothered with shopping around or comparison sites (exactly what I used to say!). I also started looking at supermarket vouchers, loyalty points and similar. I used to put things like that in the bin, but if you can be bothered, you can save a few quid each time you shop, which over a year, can add up to quite a lot. 'Every little helps' as Tesco say.
I bought a 2005 Golf BKD diesel during the lockdown. It does between 55mpg if i drive it hard to 65 mpg if I don't. Passed its mot in Jan with no advisories, in the last year it has only cost me new wiper blades.
