    Regarding Satnavs and learning the road networks I would advise any new driver to learn to read a map and carry the Truckers Atlas in your bag. If your Satnav goes down or you lose GPS you need to be able to navigate on the fly. Never EVER rely on a Satnav, your eyes, brain, and common sense are your primary navigation devices. Trust me, I've been there when you trust a Satnav and it goes badly wrong. You don't do it twice! Agreed with patience and dealing with assholes, just back off and let them find that tree that has their name on it. Pity I didn't get the near miss with an e-scooter on camera this week.

      Yeah, you are definitely right about only doing it once with the sat nav, happened to me once had to get a wrecker to pull me out. Was not fun!

    You missed the rule about new drivers always using the second lane approaching a roundabout, and then getting stuck out there on the other side.

    Hey Sam, I've been looking into becoming a HGV driver recently. Your videos have been a massive help, so thanks for that. I've talked about my intent to do this with a couple of friends, and they're saying it's not worth it anymore. That the wages during and shortly after Covid were massively inflated, and that you can't expect more than £35k for Class 1 now. Is this true? It's not a massive deal to me though. I think I'll love the work. Beats slaving away in factories like I've done for the last 5 years or so.
    Also, I'm Welsh. Can't really explain how to pronounce Llanfair-PG in text! Doesn't really translate lol

    • @truckitprayle
      @truckitprayle  7 หลายเดือนก่อน +2

      Yeah some of what they are saying is partly true but whats the alternative, earn 20k in a warehouse.
      It's got alot of pros and alot of cons you just have to way up whats more important to you.
      As for that welsh place i think i will leave it to you guys to say 🤣

    • @I_Mark_Mills
      @I_Mark_Mills 7 หลายเดือนก่อน +3

      @@truckitprayle That's what I'm saying mate. The factory work is starting to get to me, and the pay is always minimum wage. Truck driving for me seems to be more pros than cons. It's just gonna take me a while to get there.
      Need my driving licence first. I ride a motorbike currently, but only had maybe 7 or 8 car lessons. Do you think it's simple enough for a guy with some common sense to get his car licence and then jump straight into driving trucks?

      Be prepared, that nobody will hire you, only for crap jobs. I have a cat. C and (would) get an attractive 40k/year for 48 hours (in fact 55-60) weeks, but I won't spend a year there for sure. Lots of sweat, heavy lifting, back pain…. It isn't worth it, but after 94 applications, this was the only offer I got.

    • @truckitprayle
      @truckitprayle  6 หลายเดือนก่อน

      Well thurrock has the biggest industrial areas so that would probably be the easiest place to start but there are alot of places really mate.

    still looking about for the actual step 1..... finding a dam job. company that put me through training no long has openings haha. ah well keep looking.. dosnt help indeed thinks a 3 hr drive to work is a reasonable comute.. only stuff it shows near me is agency rubbish, not leaving a full time job for that.. not when the pay isnt better anyway.

    Hi I have failed my hgv road test 3 times now and have it rebooked for next week
    Is there anyone in the Northamptonshire area that would take on a learner 2 days a week for free to gain experience

      @@truckitprayle Wish I had gone into plumbing or electrician, 35 years ago it was OK, now theirs no enjoyment, and the driving standards of some drivers is terrifying,
      Suppose it's just being old school

    Above 4 statutory and one bad diet early death reality is, if a firm isn't willing to pay you a gross or more than £19.00/hr under PAYE then you are not going to be a respected HGV Driver as the employer isn't! The employer can't command an amount commensurate with then maintaining vehicles nor paying skilled employees a respectful rate. Time to become another type of driver if driving is your thing?

      Got to take those jobs sadly if your going for your first class 1 job beggars can't be choosers but once you have 1-2 years experience I agree you should seek better work. I recently got my 1st class 1 job and its easy work just trunking and I get £17 an hour. Vehicles are mostly decent and well maintained and all the stuff over 4 years old is being sold on to make way for 55 MAN lorries that are fully speced and have 520hp. Can't really complain. I also get £10 a day meal allowance included in my £17 an hour so some of it is tax free.

    • @truckitprayle
      @truckitprayle  7 หลายเดือนก่อน +1

      Thats right mate but yeah so.e new drivers don't havecalot of choice, they just have to get that experience under their belt.

    • @gravemind6536
      @gravemind6536 7 หลายเดือนก่อน +2

      @@truckitprayle Yeah I had a slight advantage over most new passes by having two years bus driving experience prior and 3 months class 2 multi drop after passing my test. For most new passes its more difficult to get anything regardless of whether its decent or not.
