- Shuhei Mizushima written this song, he was a student in a army-associated secondary school. The song talks about the daily struggles of a secondary student, with themes like hating math and stuff, as there was no music score, the theme of "Battle Hymn of the republic", an American military song was used as the song.
This song was controversial at the time and in a society like imperial Japan, it's not hard to see why.
Mizushima was reprimanded by the school authorities for referring to the book bag as a beggar bag with these lyrics, and was banned from going out. However, the instructor of Kokuhanbun said that he was pleased that he would be satisfied if he write lyrics that are good.

@@mukadewolf530 I don't think Japanese soldiers were well paid, their paygrade fell behind compared to their UK and US counterparts, but then IJA, despite being the army of a great power (imperial japan at the time), wasn't exactly that developed relative to IJN.
I've also read that Japanese soldiers were referred as "cent" for how poorly they were paid.
The discipline was harsh in IJA and IJN, but I've read tales that IJN was even more brutal; I'm not sure who was more brutal to their trainees, but IJN had a method of punishing their personnel, by canning them in the ass with a wooden bat they call "Bat to insert Naval Spirit"; the logic is that if they hit the men hard, then the men would be less likely to go on the "wrong" path hence "naval spirit"; I've read that men have been killed by these bats, but their deaths were marked as "Training accidents". If you're interested in the bats, you can search up 精神注入棒 but the material are in Chinese though.
Either way, IJA and IJN wasn't a place you wanted to be.
