Info about the song:
Shuhei Mizushima written this song, he was a student in a army-associated secondary school. The song talks about the daily struggles of a secondary student, with themes like hating math and stuff, as there was no music score, the theme of "Battle Hymn of the republic", an American military song was used as the song.
This song was controversial at the time and in a society like imperial Japan, it's not hard to see why.
Mizushima was reprimanded by the school authorities for referring to the book bag as a beggar bag with these lyrics, and was banned from going out. However, the instructor of Kokuhanbun said that he was pleased that he would be satisfied if he write lyrics that are good.
In addition, Akikatsu Kato, the lyricist of "Infantry Song," was also a fellow student in the 10th period of Meiko.
Mizushima Shuhei wrote this song in 1913 when he was 15 years old while he was a student at a youth army officers school and presented it during a school festival. The principle got angry for calling the school bags “beggars bags” and he got punished by being put into a curfew for couple weeks. His Japanese language teacher was actually impressed by his lyrics and happily praised him for it. The song became popular among other army officer schools around the country and students would sing it until the end of ww2 in 1945. Mizushima himself passed away in 1947.

The writer,Shuhei Mizushima(水島周平)was reprimanded and punished by school, but his Japanese and Chinese teacher pleased this lyrics.
there is such thing as Japanese and Chinese. Kanji is part of Japanese language. The Chinese part is just Japanese and as well as many other countries used Chinese characters, these country tried to adopt latin alphabet and slammed characters as obsolete include China and Vietnam. Japan is no exception. Only Vietnam successfully adopt latin alphabet and the alphabet itself is also problematic
@@Teochewtuahang Korea also managed to (almost) entirely get rid of Hanja in its everyday use.

as a chinese and seeing how even the japanese think ancient chinese text is crazy, i can confirm
everyone's struggling at classical chinese
frick it
It also doesn’t help that they have hyper specific circumstances where the text are even relevant to today.
I’m all for teaching history but a good majority of those texts could’ve been saved for those who actually want to go insane trying to understand them.
@@KRDecade2009 Yep. But, classical chinese is required in chinese schools because it "increases writing skills" according to the syllabus makers in here. Therefore, unfortunately, many Chinese school students immediately drop out off Chinese classes in secondary schools just because of these classes.
@@meanshape101 You can drop out of Chinese classes? Where do you live? In mainland China/PRC, ancient Chinese is compulsory for Gaokao. I hated most of those, but there are enjoyable ones, I especially like Zhuangzi and Su Shi, their writings are much more interesting than most of the modern Chinese contents.
@@dianayu4453 You are from China? Damn that's cool. I'm from Malaysia actually, where you can prefer not to take Chinese in the SPM, an exam similar to the GaoKao but takes place in Malaysia and has a low passing rate.

「針か蚓か知らないが」の部分、「針」や「蚓」はアルファベットの見た目を表しているものです。
That's interesting, I thought he meant under a microscope or something. But that makes total sense.
I think that lyric is "シンコステータの三角が" instead of "信仰テータの三角が", and means "The triangle of sin cos θ",

Props for writing with the kyujitai (older) forms of kanji! It's a small detail but they were still used at the time this song was made
But there's just a few mistakes in kyujitai.
0:31 放物線x →拋物線o The character '拋' has been rewritten as '放' recently in Japanese.
0:40 The upper right part of the "博" should be "甫". Otherwise, it would be sinjitai, newer forms of kanji.
1:01 1:27 The upper right part of the "漢" should be "廿". Otherwise, it's sinjitai.
1:40 寝x(sinjitai) →寢o
1:53 "體/躰" is better, but "体" was also used then.
the needle threads and worms refers to latin alphabets (dutch english french etc.)

What I took away from this song and the description, since the writer of this song passed away at just the age of 49 in 1947 after WW2 ended, is just reinforcing the fact that, much like anyone else, they were once students and teenagers like us, who also faced similar mundane troubles of daily life, before being dragged into the horrors of war.
