All you people prattle on. A singers voice is continually changing. Jonas has been singing for quite a few years now and he will go on singing. He is one of the more exciting and dramatic tenors of today.
I have a DVD of this "Mignon" production but there Jonas K. was only acting while the singing was done by an excellent Canadian tenor- Benjamin Butterfield. However, he sounded nothing like Jonas K.and it was really strange. This video above sounds like the real thing, though. Susan Graham sang "Mignon" and was a joy to listen to.
For what? Is Giacomini still singing, I doubt, he should be around 70 meanwhile. No need to hop(p)e, you are wrong. This was 7 years ago and Jonas is on top now.
The reason that Kaufmann is not singing in the official DVD of this production is that on the recording day he had a cold and was unable to sing (caught from Susan Graham who was unable to sing the premiere because of it), the director used Butterfield who knew the role but not the staging, to mime for Kaufmann. The claim that Kaufman's voice was not big enough is ridiculous, as can be heard on this later recording, and also anyone who has heard him sing live at the big houses. It is true he has not the largest voice in the world, but same as Domingo it can project out to the audience.
l believe that Jonas is the great singer, As for my " AYES" , l can tell you that l have a good ear, sensibility and musicality. Kaufmann is complete, hear his CD of Strauss Lieder, en this ,he is also great and fabulous. They are both tenors and Jonas is very good looking but l believe that Mignon is not for his voice, which is too rich and dark, Mignon is more for a lighter tenor, surely the voice of Villazon is more for it.
you better ask your doc for checking your ears, you seem to be completely deaf. I heard him in many operas live and I never had problems on any seat in any opera house (Met, ROH, Scala, Chicago, etc.)
Well, look for Jonas Kaufmann, Florestan, Fidelio and you are going to know as a great tenor should sound. he is marvelous, great in voice and expression. Very good looking. You will see as Jonas is going to bury your Villazon, This, is almost good only in Donizetti . Domingo is helping him , as a father, Yes , they look a bit alike, but Villazon is not going to be Domingo, never
Well you are intatle to you oopinion and in yor rain everything must sound just right. But you should hear with your ears, mind and spirit, Not with your AYES. for me they are bouth good, and I dont think he will barry anyone just yet :*
for what I read I see that you like him very very much as a man and I think this effects your objectability. In deed he is great, I like him very much, but as with villazon I think that Jonnas will tired the voice soon, even dough I hoppe I'm wrong. What do you think about Giuseppe Giacomini?
No l don't like Villazon expression . it's cheap !Sorry and the voice of Jonas is much better,, he is also very good looking and we, women ,enjoy the beauty. Villazon is not good looking,
no projection of voice, all back in the throath! terrible techinique! Nobody is able anymore to sing it as kraus, fleta, di stefano (young) and gigli did.. what a pity.. what a lack of culture..
It's 2024 - this dedicated actor, singer, intellect, witty and complete gentleman is still incandescent!
Es ist lange her . . .

Omg can we find the DVD now too? Cause I searched everywhere for it.

Oh! Thank you so much for explaining. V. interesting.
Mais quelle belle voix!Une voix qui émotionne.Son Français est tres bon, Adieu Villazon.

Kaufmann has done a good job here, but I prefere Roberto Alagna's version, more colourful, more emotional, and of course a better phrasing.

Do not be ignorant, you can not copare the two, he has better technique than Villazon, but Not the HEART of Villazon..I still enjoy more Villazon.
Hearts differ. That's a good thing about the world.
