I have noticed from watching videos on TH-cam, that foreign countries and peoples charge Caucasian European people more money than they do the people who are from that country. This is happening all over the world. Everyone thinks European descent people are rich money wise, so they upcharge them. It is not right to do that. That is discrimination. Well there's no way an average Philippine could afford $600 per month rent when they only earn a minimum wage of $1 an hour. It's very expensive for them there in comparison to the United States, where minimum wage is $15 an hour. So here in the States we have 15 times more income and our goods are cheaper or comparable on the whole.

Hi Mae and Paul it's Your LOYAL FRIEND RAY FROM CALIFORNIA, Grate video and wounderful information Thank You So Very Much My Friends, GOD BLESS YOU PAUL AND BABY MAE 😇🙏😇
Sharing life experiences are the best advice ever! Average rent here in Seattle for a 1 bedroom apartment is about 2000 but varies greatly depending on the area. I have a house and pay property taxes of about 8000 a year so taxes are getting pretty bad!
King County is getting to be one big sh!t hole. My best friend still lives up there. Pays about $ 1,000 a month on taxes. And that's not including all of them. Plus over run with homeless encampments even at my old favorite fishing spots on the Green River. I Got out 27 years ago when it started to get really bad.
Hi Paul, I live in UK....in a so-called semi-detached house....neighbors galore!!!! Yes, privacy is so important! I enjoy your informative videos (where I work some PH people and I lived in Taiwan some time - met PH people etc.) the real show-stopper for me is always neighbours!!! It's waht puts me off "retiring" somewhere unknown - devil you know - and all that! I admire your internet presence but I fully understand, keep yourselves private!!! In fact all our holidays we check the privacy FIRST! Best regards to you and your soul-mate!
Good luck in your new place. I've learned a great deal from this and other chanels about renting. Visit the area several times at different times of the day. Try not to pay 2 months deposit. Check water pressures. Video or document everything. An absolute gem from Rickay be aware of points of the compass to avoid places where the sun is shining on the front/back of your home turning it into an oven. The landlord your buddy has seems terribly short sighted. Expats are willing to pay higher rents but if word gets round that he's not concerned about being fair with tenants word will get round.
I live in Indonesia i do the same head out to an area you like & ask around. I found my house getting my hair cut ...my thoughts were hairdresser knows everyone around the area ...done found a good house.
You are completely correct about one person or family can ruin everything for everyone else. Loud music is number 1. Having all night parties have been my 2nd issue, again playing very loud music, being loud and stupid and very inconsiderate of your neighbors. I found this to be a problem in Thailand and Laos, not just in the Philippines.
This is why it is important to be selective in where you live. I live in a Manila high-rise condo for paste 22 years. Never had any experiences of loud music or discontent with other neighbors. We all respect the building common rules.
@@kenrice Thanks for the info, hope to visit Cebu City next year after watching alot of these Phillipine's lifestyle videos and that was my plan... at least initially: rent an apartment in a high-rise to hopefully avoid some of those inherent issues of living in a more rural area. How do you like Manila?
@@platoon1081 inside metro manila gated villages are absolutely quiet. You won't hear dogs barking nor roosters not any pets making noise. There are quite a few large gated communities in the heart of Metro Manila.
Despite all of its problems, my wife and I love Metro Manila. We never get bored and do not have enough time in the day to complete all of the desired activities. There are a ton of things to do, and it's not nearly as bad as most expats claim. FYI: It is common for many to dislike Manila because of the pollution and heavy traffic. Crime is not nearly as bad as most claim. In fact, most of the crimes against western expats happen in rural areas. Metro Manila has so much to offer. I think if more people had a better understanding of all the various activities and upscale areas, their opinion would change. All that said, Manila does have its fair share of crime, like any big city, but with a little bit of common sense, you can have a good life. I've lived in Manila for over 22 years and have never felt unsafe.
Sounds like there is no perfect location unless you are on acres of land. Rents are now even to high for me over there so glad I purchased property here in southern Oregon 2.5 acres in the mountains and forest. Off grid cabin, rent zero and only $50 a month property taxes. Good luck guys, Mike in the USA 🇺🇸
Hey Paul, Been watching your videos for awhile. Finally subscribed today. Sorry about that 'cause I should have done the subscribing part much earlier. Anyway, I liked this latest video. Mae looks real happy. You look like you're living the good life. I'm happy for both of you.
As for myself, things are changing in my neighborhood it’s always been noisy, but after it gets dark things, get quiet and peaceful. Now that has changed because across the street on an apartment piece of property they have added an open restaurant. They are playing music most of the time it used to be very loud. Obviously somebody complained.. But still you can hear their music and also they’re staying up most of the evening drinking so you know what comes with drinking. I have finally or should I say we have finally found a piece of property he have a half Hector so we have to get all the paperwork in order before we do anything then once paperwork is completed, we can clear the property and start digging holes for all the fruit trees were going to have. Meanwhile, we will start building our humble three-bedroom home, so it looks like I’m just guessing about a year before we can get out of here. Things have changed. We have loud motorcycles loudness all day and all night I guess it’s the price of paying a small amount for rent. God willing things work out for both of us.
The property turned out to be a Scam, there was 5 generations on the title and the property taxes have not been paid for 5 generations. Next time we will cut too the chase and ask fort All documents before we take another step.
Yes you can find a house online in the Philippines. Before we went home to the Philippines we looked for a house thru online. we found a house in Davao City 3bedroom and it's a big house for 15k but that was 2019. When we arrived at the place. we looked at it and we like it. it's a subdivision and a very quite place.

500 to 600? I feel so blessed in Thailand to be in a great condo for under 250 USD. Yes these are getting snapped up quickly as people are returning but they are available. Like you say, you have to get out and look around because the internet doesn't always work. ✌

Oh yeah... we have no indoor plumbing and we still cook with a bit of charcoal and wood outdoors! Hahaha on me! I'm 60 years old, and I wonder why it took me so long to meet the most humble and beautiful girl I've ever known, not ever even knowing anything about the Philippines ? Same in Central America. Expat communities prices up. Would like the cheapest, but since days are numbered after retirement age quality is important also.
I love the attitude of "I said my piece and he is a big boy" so many other people would be a little pissed off that they would say "I told you so, now live with your choices".
It's a shame that some of your 'peeps' invaded your space and privacy, but glad you found an alternative, and hope you can at least give us a tour of the inside of your new home. As far as noise, have you ever thought of using a good speaker system and playing 'white noise' through them? I do that where I live, and it's very effective at overcoming the noise from both inside and outside. Just thought I'd mention it to you. God bless you guys, you're very inspirational to all of your viewers.

No chickens , roosters , no trikes , no jeepneys . We have 24 hour security no karoke allowed late evening . 20 minutes to clean beaches 10 to mall , many restaurants , 4 large grocery stores . Love it here a very peaceful community .
I first went to Subic in 2001 moved there in 2006. The pollution, corruption and poverty got to me. The Bay is very polluted so keep that in mind. Due to health issues and poor medical services in Subic I pulled the pin and moved back to Canada in 2015. The owners of Harleys are very close friends of mine and they serve a pretty good meal there. Enjoy your time there and stay away from roosters "lol" and mangy dogs.
I am subscriber for months, great video. Looks like things are getting kinda expat retiree expensive over there, that is why we just retired in Central america Panama. They have great perks for retirees, like Pensionado visas (lifetime pension income of at least US$1,000 is needed per month, that is it, but you want to have ate least $1300 in social Sec with a little savings on the side or $1800 pension or SS income) great living and they offer 50% discounts (movie theaters, restaurant etc with a pensionado visa ID to mention few. Looks like the Philippines have gotten to complicated lately.
Agree Paul. finding a good house in PI is a pain in the ass. I got a taxi driver to take me around but he only took me to a place where he got a kickback. Still PI is the best place to live
Just thank God you enjoyed the last 2 years, I think most people are considering their future due to the return of the new normal. Bless you both I wish you luck and good health in your new home, just love your videos 😊
New normal dictated by demonic governments who (in actuality) care nothing for their people (i.e., what they view as the underclass). Life just goes on and on and on, in the torturous world... nothing actually changes. Yes, it's better to be in a place more-chaotic / less "law" / less-controlled in such times.
@@donh5794 agree! Let's just get back to normal. I hate the term new normal. It's not healthy for anyone...especially for young kids growing up like this.
You got that right!!! When it involves Real Estate -- you need boots on the ground to find a place to rent or buy. There are no working websites that I could find. They were BS. After looking months for a place to live, the only way I was able to find a place to rent in Cebu City was to ask my Philippine Support Company in Cebu City to look for a rental house for me. They previously got my retirement visa in the Philippines as well as my Entry Visa into the Philippines, and they would help me in other ways -- like getting a Philippine bank account if I wanted one). They did all the boots on the ground work for me in finding a place to live. In 2 weeks they found a house for me -- how they did that I have no idea, it was not even advertised. The cost was great and the owner was great and took very good care of his properties. If there was a problem with anything, he was all over it until fixed. The place is as close to typhoon proof as you will get - built like a concrete bunker. Strong security throughout the property including security cameras, secure place for a car, steel fence, etc. The location is not the best -- nor the worst. But the house is large and has been a great place to live.
Thank you Paul for this very informative blog, I'm like you I want to live at higher elevation mainly because it's cooler. I think you and I have the same temperament, maybe it's because of our age this month I will be 78 years old by the grace of God. I'm coming to the Philippines the 1st of February. I will try to meet up with you for a couple of coffee and a little Chica Chica
Noise is the bane of my life. Same here in Thailand, kids who take the muffler off their motorbike and replace it with some kind of amplifier has become commonplace here. You better live a long way from any main road or live in a very hilly area which unfriendly to motorbikes and large trucks. I hope you find peace.
Try our province here in Albay specifically Legazpi where you can live with the privacy and peace and quiet you will love with a low cost of living 😊. You will also find beautiful scenic spots when you want to unwind ☺️
Phil, Gio's friend, said something like go sit outside a place you may rent at night for an hour or so and just listen to what goes on there. Loud neighbors/karaoke late at night is a deal breaker.
it is very expensive now in the states too a 1 bedroom apartment is two thousand dollars we own 2 houses I rented the other one and the renter destroyed the house it cost us $50.000 to fix so we finally sold it a rental property is a pain to manage, it is better for you to buy your own place my baby brother bought a 2 bedroom 2 bath house and a big yard for $120.000 a vacation house in the city he built a native house for the caretaker and help with another 2 bathroom and another 2 bedroom a kitchen downstairs and a garage and he fences in the house with razor wire on top he bought it for vacation in Dumaguete also an electric gate in front and 5 minutes to the mall I really enjoyed visiting his place we have a big house in the province and no one lives there it is a compound in Nagbalaye Sta Catalina we used to visit it a lot is our ancestral home but the house is like a mansion that when we all went home one year our Electric bill was over one thousand dollars for one month just for the air condition. Nine months later - 9/29/2023 - We rent a 3-bedroom - 3-bath (2 with hot shower) in Cavite Luzon for $400 per month. Good houses with reasonable rent are out there!
Geez Paul not all of us can afford a mansion in the PH!!! A one bedroom shack as long as I can install a hot water by demand system for my shower would be great for me!!! LOL

Quiet side road = you don’t find that in PH 🙉
Same problems in Thailand. Avoiding noise and troubling neighbors is extremely difficult and can drive you crazy.
Yes, a big problem. It seems to be the most common complaint here.
@@jeremyfielding2333 Driving, noise and burning are the worst parts for sure.
If I can be the one who tells it like it is, it's because ur a foreigner. They basically purposely do it
Hi Mae and Paul it's Your LOYAL FRIEND RAY FROM CALIFORNIA, Grate video and wounderful information Thank You So Very Much My Friends, GOD BLESS YOU PAUL AND BABY MAE 😇🙏😇
Sharing life experiences are the best advice ever! Average rent here in Seattle for a 1 bedroom apartment is about 2000 but varies greatly depending on the area. I have a house and pay property taxes of about 8000 a year so taxes are getting pretty bad!
My property tax in Texas is $333
@@PInk77W1 But it's Texas.😆
More reasons for me not to live on the west coast. haha
@@bannertraveller5879 I'd rather live in TX.
Looks like you are moving to a better place! I hear you about the gardening.. easier to just buy those veggies at the market!
Thanks Paul...good luck with the move...
So nice, you adopted a grand daughter.
We Just left, come to Portugal , no dogs, no traffic, zero noise, Algarve area

Very interesting and helpful. Good advice. Thanks.👍
Thanks for always sharing ur lives with the world
Good job paul
You are completely correct about one person or family can ruin everything for everyone else. Loud music is number 1. Having all night parties have been my 2nd issue, again playing very loud music, being loud and stupid and very inconsiderate of your neighbors. I found this to be a problem in Thailand and Laos, not just in the Philippines.
You forgot barking dogs
Thank you Paul and Baby Mae
Hi Paul and baby Mae from Panorama City California
Sounds like there is no perfect location unless you are on acres of land. Rents are now even to high for me over there so glad I purchased property here in southern Oregon 2.5 acres in the mountains and forest. Off grid cabin, rent zero and only $50 a month property taxes. Good luck guys, Mike in the USA 🇺🇸
Sounds wonderful!
I'm in Cave Junction.....
Great video thank you for all the great info. 🙂👍👍👍🙏
Glad it was helpful!
Hey Paul, Been watching your videos for awhile. Finally subscribed today. Sorry about that 'cause I should have done the subscribing part much earlier. Anyway, I liked this latest video. Mae looks real happy. You look like you're living the good life. I'm happy for both of you.
Good thing Paul that the 8.7% social security raise and reasonable exchange rate is going the right way!
It's amazing double edge sword yes you like broadcasting and sharing Mae and your life and tips about living in Philippines but you also like all of us like your private time. Well the new place you will be better because you have learned from your stay at current home that you will not share to much of where and descriptions of it. So hope you both find something that will work better for Mae and you.
Thanks again Paul for sharing your experience. Alway good to hear from boots on the ground!!!
Thank You for the video . Brother Man and sister Woman. Again visiting Davao August. My old boss lives on same island you do . Maybe in future travels we might run into each other at coffee again I'm locating to Davao and watch the other guy Laway. Anyway thanks again. GRR. ✌️

Don't forget your little plastic chicken to sit on the couch behind you as you vlog at your new place.
God bless you and Mae and please have a Merry Christmas and a Happy upcoming New Year. Thank you for all the great video's and the life you all have shared with me over the years. I feel like a part of your family for allowing me to be a part of that life. From my family to your family Thank you and God Bless
You are correct paul. You have to drive around and find what you like. I have owned property here in the Philippines for 30 years and thats exactly what i do. But that's probably best for anywhere in the world I think. Driving around beats the hell out of Craigslist.
. Hi guys great video as usual great information. All what you mentioned is the philippines i have been in and out of the philippines for the last 20 years and gest what it isn't going to change that's life living in the philippines but i will say the dumaguete is the best place to live. Merry Christmas to you both take care see you one day cheers. Looking from Australia.

Goodmorning Mr. Paul and Ms. Mae. Noise would be my greatest objection of moving to the Philippines. I would have to live way out in the country. LOL
We did our apartment search with Facebook marketplace. From Manila to Antipolo and beyond there are places posted there all the time. Worth checking out if you wanna search via the internet and worked perfectly for us so you might have luck there as well
Thanks for the advice, I will try that next time.
Sounds good - wish you 2 good luck.

Peace and quiet here in Chiang Mai. I almost never see my neighbors in my condo building.
Sounds like you got a great set up for the future. Great you actually get to choose your neighbor too. I think you’re setting your self and Mae for a happy and content future. I’ll be arriving in the Philippines next Friday (23 Dec) so excited. Hope to see you both in the near future, God willing 😁😁
We pay 25,000 3 bdr , 2 full bath, furnished in a gate guarded subdivision. Great water although we use a countertop Waters system and my wife still insists on buying bottled water.
Ty for sharing good info, Paul. Where is the Amazing Internationally Famous Baby Mae hiding At Da? LOL! 😎😂😅

Good video Mae & Paul, privacy is a huge thing for my wife and I as well!

Wow! Im so happy I own my own property. Rent is getting crazy expensive.
500 to 600? I feel so blessed in Thailand to be in a great condo for under 250 USD. Yes these are getting snapped up quickly as people are returning but they are available. Like you say, you have to get out and look around because the internet doesn't always work. ✌
Thanks for sharing
I moved to Thailand and I have rented a beautiful bungalow With a large garden for 3,500 Baht Around £70 a month
Of course - Philippines is much more expensive than Thailand
This video would have been much more valuable if Mae had an opportunity to share in the discussion. With Paul speaking 99% it's unfortunate he hogs the dialog. Mae indeed is attractive but I would like to have heard her view or opinion too.
great information thank you
Oh yeah... we have no indoor plumbing and we still cook with a bit of charcoal and wood outdoors! Hahaha on me! I'm 60 years old, and I wonder why it took me so long to meet the most humble and beautiful girl I've ever known, not ever even knowing anything about the Philippines ?
It's terribly impoverished, and my Fiancee / Wife, who is still there, grew up in a bamboo house.
I am just in awe of everything there.
Thank you and may God bless you and your beautiful Baby Mae!!!

Same in Central America. Expat communities prices up. Would like the cheapest, but since days are numbered after retirement age quality is important also.
Sounds like one of the places you have shown. With the gym by the pool but it's a community so not sure if you like that.
Great video thanks again, Gordon
Frankly, inflation is everywhere. 400 usd per month is cheap. My city KL is 600 to 800 usd per month. But we also have to look at facilities of course
After renting for two years in olongapo i ending up settling in sbfz . This is old military base housing . More costly than average but very quiet and safe . No chickens , roosters , no trikes , no jeepneys . We have 24 hour security no karoke allowed late evening . 20 minutes to clean beaches 10 to mall , many restaurants , 4 large grocery stores . Love it here a very peaceful community .
SBFZ is a great place to live. I rented up in Kalayann for years. No roosters no trikes no jeepneys, you picked the right place!!!
@@Baloybeach thank you i enjoy the peace and quiet yet close to essential needs
I first went to Subic in 2001 moved there in 2006. The pollution, corruption and poverty got to me. The Bay is very polluted so keep that in mind. Due to health issues and poor medical services in Subic I pulled the pin and moved back to Canada in 2015. The owners of Harleys are very close friends of mine and they serve a pretty good meal there. Enjoy your time there and stay away from roosters "lol" and mangy dogs.
I appreciate your thoughts on this. It was needed. Thanks!
I lived in Clark Freeport zone. Sure loved it. Quiet. Clean. It’s like living in America 😘
Agree Paul. finding a good house in PI is a pain in the ass. I got a taxi driver to take me around but he only took me to a place where he got a kickback. Still PI is the best place to live
Here in SoCal it’s not unusual to see your rent increase by $200 to $300 a month every year.
How is it possible to keep up with the expense?

New normal dictated by demonic governments who (in actuality) care nothing for their people (i.e., what they view as the underclass).
Life just goes on and on and on, in the torturous world... nothing actually changes.

Paul based on your description of your new place I know exactly where that is😂 joke ,,love your channel keep up the good work😊
You got that right!!!
Paul, you can check online for houses, apt., condo for rent at Lamudi Philippines. Check it out!
Sounds cool

it is very expensive now in the states too a 1 bedroom apartment is two thousand dollars we own 2 houses I rented the other one and the renter destroyed the house it cost us $50.000 to fix so we finally sold it a rental property is a pain to manage, it is better for you to buy your own place my baby brother bought a 2 bedroom 2 bath house and a big yard for $120.000 a vacation house in the city he built a native house for the caretaker and help with another 2 bathroom and another 2 bedroom a kitchen downstairs and a garage and he fences in the house with razor wire on top he bought it for vacation in Dumaguete also an electric gate in front and 5 minutes to the mall I really enjoyed visiting his place we have a big house in the province and no one lives there it is a compound in Nagbalaye Sta Catalina we used to visit it a lot is our ancestral home but the house is like a mansion that when we all went home one year our Electric bill was over one thousand dollars for one month just for the air condition. The Philippines is not that cheap anymore but it is even more expensive in the states.
You found someone to be your new neighbor, that's good news.
Nine months later - 9/29/2023 - We rent a 3-bedroom - 3-bath (2 with hot shower) in Cavite Luzon for $400 per month. Good houses with reasonable rent are out there!
