I got my Wolfgang Standard over a year ago, and I absolutely love it!!! I really like that you are able to demo these guitars in this age of online shopping for guitars, I respect your opinion!!!
I have two Wolfgang Specials and two Wolfgang standards and I love them. They sound great stay in tune very well and the fret boards are smooth and so playable. I wanted to get the USA model but I've heard they are no different than a Wolfgang special but far more expensive. So I'm sticking with what I have. Besides my main axe is a Jackson Adrian Smith USA Signature. Which is what I compared my EVH Wolfgang special two and I have to say I enjoy playing the EVH's just as much.
Thanks for playing that Wolfgang as intended unlike all the other players on TH-cam, and thanks for your complete honesty!, I couldn’t justify spending 4 grand for a USA Wolfie
Awesome guitar demonstration... EVH was the best at the way he played the guitar.. highly creative and a mind-blowing ability to constantly find exciting riffs and guitar chops for the songs Van Halen wrote for years... just unbelievable talent and Eddie was so fluid and smooth on the guitar fretboard when he played.. a true guitar genius
I love all Van Halen songs. That being said, you pretty much played all the riffs/songs that I wanted to see on youtube. I love those more obscure songs and think they have so many tasty riffs, licks and moments than the more popular songs. Great review too!
yea he was playing songs you rarely hear others play. I think he is the best I have heard at covering EVH. His tone and playing is very close and precise.
I purchased one of these guitars based on your northern lights Wolfgang video. Always a pleasure to watch your videos and great playing as well sir. It’s now my favorite guitar.
Really, really enjoy your content! Love hearing and seeing you play🔥I have two WG standards and one WG Special. Both are fantastic! When Eddie passed, it hit me hard. So, at 51 ……. I said I’m going to try to learn some of Eddies stuff. I have learned some of his stuff through you. Also got the Yamaha THRii 30 wireless amp and use your settings. It is so much fun getting some of Eddie’s riffs down to at least sound half way decent. Also picked up couple stripe series as well as the Frankie. I’m just a huge Van Halen fan/nerd! Thanks again for taking time to post content. I thoroughly enjoy and appreciate it!!
Yep, ha ha I'm 50 too and always loved King Edward, it really did hit me hard too, a part of my from my teenage years had changed forever. I've played badly for 35 odd years but I'm more determined now to polish off my attempts at Ain't Talkin, Running with the Devil and Feel Your Love - not sure I have the talent though. Rock on guys!!!
Amazing playing!! I enjoyed the demo of both guitars. I got an unbelievable deal on a standard at Sweetwater yesterday! It sounds amazing and plays great! I’m debating on adding a D-Tuna.
I do love me a bit of CAM-HALEN, nicely put, not just bumping the expensive one, individuality is important and I appreciate your input. Thanks Cam 🤘🏼😈🤘🏼
I’ve had my EVH Wolfgang standard in Northern Lights (my favorite guitar of all time) for about almost a year (it’ll be a year on September 4, 2022) and it plays like a dream! I also have a Yamaha THR10X! Tones are amazing! Edit: 1 year now! :)
I think there were slight tonal differences, but sometimes it's just more fun to pick up a cheaper guitar and not be afraid to customise it how you want it. One problem with really expensive guitars is people start to worry about resale values.
I got a Stryker red standard earlier this year. Put a D tuna on it and it's been one of my main guitars for gigs and recording ever since. Absolutely awesome workhorse guitar 🤘😝
perfect timing on this demo. I was just wondering if you kept that special. Glad you still have it. I got the standard in stealth black based on your reviews. Now I think I'm going to sell it to get that special. That color scheme is my favorite by far so got to get one now. Thank you for all the great content.
I've been looking at these for a while now. Now that I know the difference I'll get the less expensive one. I can install better tuners, and I've never had a problem with the Floyd rose special. I actually prefer them. They're built to the same specs as the original. So when you do have a part wear out, you can replace it with original parts. YEAH BUDDY! 🤘 Nice demo.
Better tuners on a Floyd type guitar doesn't really matter because u lock em at the nut.Now if this was a fixed bridge then ya better tuners is a must.Cheers.
the Wolfgang WG Standard is beautiful, but the special also looks great!! greta video, I thought it was great how you flipped the guitar at the start of the video- great video and your playing is great!!!
I have an EVH WG Special and an EVH WG Standard Exotic (Ziricote). I love both guitars but the Special is just a better guitar all around. My Special weighs over 1 lb more than the Standard. Both guitars sound and play great. The Standard sounds a little warmer....the Special cuts better.
Man I love your playing mate 🤘I bought the Jackson sl4x after your review, it always leaves me jealous of your ability after watching one of your videos keep it up mate 👍🏼
Amazing CC ~ the best I have ever heard anyone play later era EVH. got my respect brotha. I love the looks and sound of the Wolfgangs but the thick profile of the neck keeps me from buying one. I played one at Guitar Center and didn't like the playability of the neck as I prefer a thinner Jackson neck. RIP Eddie
I have a standard in the amber Quilted. Picked up a EVH FRT1000 for $125 and replaced the FR Special. The issue I had with the special is that the saddles are soft and its really easy to strip the screw holes out, even where the bar is mounted my baseplate was dented underneath, the zinc is just soft . Its not about how well it works its about how eventually you will have issues with stripped parts on the FR special. The metal is just soft and thats the problem.
I bought my first Peavey Wolfgang October 1999. I have noticed one difference: (when I switched to the EVH's in 2010). The ebony neck. The neck is definitely fatter, and I like it! Measure an ebony neck around the 12th fret, and a maple neck around the 12th fret? The extra girth makes it feel like driving a luxury car. Best to you Cameron; I've been watching you for years. PS: I've got the 2010 Custom Shop Wolfgang too (but with a maple neck) nevertheless you are completely correct; there is no difference in the pickup sound from foreign to custom ⚡🔌🎸🔉🔊
Again, another AWESOME video and review!!!! I love watching you play and how you make your guitars talk!!! Great, great review and advice for everyone watching.... thank you for your transparency, and keep Rockin' brother!!!! Two 👍 👍!
Played about 7-8 guitars at Guitar Center today, Esp Ltd was great, so was a Kramer Striker, the Schecter cr6 was fantastic. The standard Wolfgang though, had the best pick-ups and playability, I couldn't believe how good it sounded through the same amp I used for all guitars, a Katana 100 w . I'm getting one this week..
I’ve had a standard (sold it to help fund a Les Paul) and now I have a Special. The Standard plays just as awesome as the Special. I like that the Special has the D Tuna installed but that’s an easy retrofit for the standard.
El "EVH sound" sera siempre el mas bello y caliente de la historia!!! Jamas podre olvidar a Eddie y su musica, la unica que, cuando mas triste y angustiado estas, te saca del pozo y te emociona hasta el alma!!!. Simplemente gracias Eddie Van Halen... Gran trabajo Cameron!!!

Enjoyed the Frankie flex! 🤓great playing as always. I tried to do these two guitars but it was awful. Released it anyway because that’s how it rolls on the old TH-cam. 😜🎸
The standard is amazing. I would take a standard over a special. There is a slight difference in neck profile... But the roasted maple neck on the standard is the best selling point and worth every penny
I have both. Sure the Special is typically prettier to looks at; but they are both amazing guitars. Ironically both the necks on mine are slightly different. My Standard is more comfortable than my Special. I love them both.
I have both models compared in this video. And I mostly agree with you. One more point, I think the frets are different. The special’s frets are probably of better quality. Both are good guitars and I really like them!
As always love watching your videos! Especially the EVH content! Your playing is spot on! One day I can play maybe one of those licks. In the meantime I love my qm burst standard. Man, I have to say, they both sound awesome. I wonder if there’s just some kind of compression in the sound when something is posted that you can’t really tell the difference. The tone on both is awesome and though I’m not sure what the specific price difference is, I suppose it’s the visual features, compound radius etc. I have several electric guitars and when in the room there are definite tonal differences, if I have enough gain on them, recorded on a phone or whatever, you can’t tell. Great video and great playing. You did Eddy stuff without copping him.
Great video man!🤘 I have a 2014 wolfgang standard and have actually found I prefer it over the specials I have played. The neck to me feels better for some reason and the body with the contours is a whole lot more comfortable. That to me is the most important thing, since you can change the hardware if need be (although I've never had any trouble with it). Maybe being it's an earlier production model I ended up getting one that's a little better than most? Idk, but whatever the case, I love that guitar.
I love my standard exotic midnight blue. One of the better purchases i did in my life. I only replaced the pickups with a pRail 90 in the neck and a pearly gates on the bridge. Cause I'm not a heavy rocker but prefer blues rock. And the additional single coil adds nicely too.
Phenomenal video. Great tips, and I love your playing! I have an EVH striped series Bumblebee and a WG standard, just bought a WG Special that comes tomorrow and I was wondering what the essential.differences in the standard and special were, beside the price. Thanks!
I have a standard in spalted maple. It is such a fun and easy guitar to play. The neck is out of this world. The only thing i would change is perhaps a slightly wider neck. But other than that…perfect guitar for very little money
I recently got the standard in sparkle gold, and it's the most addictive guitar in my collection, great tone, great neck feel and profile, and solid tuning stability 👍🤘🙏
I have the gold sparkle as well, did you notice if any of the finish sparkle was over sprayed ? I have some glitter on the side of the neck near the neck pocket

Pickups are great, tremolo stays in tune ( I use it as a hard tail, no bar ) roasted maple neck is heavenly to look at and play, rounded edges on the fretboard and the body contours make this thing a dream to play. Its just a really solid, comfortable and great sounding guitar
Awesome tutorial and awesome playing as well..I have a standard and I love mine thinking of another one this video helped out a bunch. Another standard 😁keep on rockin 🤘
thanks can Cameron for postoing this video bought the satin surrg green wolfrgang special which I,m happy with but two week later new red standard wolgang standard blue mat frost guitar standard guitar and yellow taxi cab wolfgang standard blue and yellow were hard to find ,I just really like standard guitars they work for me perfect
This is an humbucker guitar with 22 frets, you did not show it that much but the neck pickup must sound amazing :) It's a very versatile guitar in general!
I had a 79 T-60 that I traded in on a 99 Black WG Standard carved top with Birdseye maple neck. Later bought a Transparent Red Standard carved top Hardtail, and a few flat-top Specials. Favorite was the Hardtail, should have kept it. Currently running a 90 LP Standard. Fair winds and following seas to all.
How dare you make a standard sound just as good or better than a special, lol love, the vid and yes i have a standard based off playing them back to back ty.
Cam is just a badass. This katt could make my daughters 80 dollar hello kitty pos guitar sound like it was custom built by chip ellis. I envy the shit outta you bro, you've DEFINITELY got it 🤘
That’s really odd about the toggle switch because both my EVH WG Standards had them reversed and I had to open the back to flip it so they are now up for the bridge and down for the neck like my Peavey WG was from the factory. For all my Ernie Ball Music Man Axis guitars, I had to actually route out the cavity on each a little in order to make room to flip the switch to go up and down (up for bridge and down for neck) rather than left and right. 👍🏻
Really great video man, I seriously enjoyed your thoughts and comments on the guitars. They honestly sound amazing what rig were You playing through just out of curiosity? And I really loved your playing and tone seriously cool man. Even the little Mean Street tease!!! Cheers
Came for the guitars stayed for the insanely fast and probably the cleanest legato runs i have ever seen😊
The conclusion of the video: it doesn't really matter if you buy the Standard or Special. If you can play like this guy..it will be awesome 😎
I was considering commenting, but your brilliant EVH playing melted my face right off.
Absolutely brilliant. Somehow, this made my soul feel better.

So you changed them all to suit what Eddie would have?
@@CameronCooper Yes, sir!
Really great video man, I seriously enjoyed your thoughts and comments on the guitars. They honestly sound amazing what rig were You playing through just out of curiosity? And I really loved your playing and tone seriously cool man. Even the little Mean Street tease!!! Cheers
