Black Sabbath - Black Sabbath (early live version with third verse and intro solo) (Live 1970)

  • This version of "Black Sabbath" was taken from the Berlin 1970 bootleg. This has everything: different lyrics, the extra verse, and a neat intro solo by Tony. The only bad news is that I had to cut off the first 10 seconds to get it to fit, but the majority of what's important is still there. This will be the last Sabbath video until I get to 299/300. Enjoy!

@9:16 Although simple to play, I love Bill Wards marching drum beat during Iommi's fast guitar riff. When I close my eyes, I see The Beast marching in time to the drum beat while being propelled by the energy from Tony's hellish guitar riff. Awesome.

    [Verse 1]
What is this that stands before me?
Figure in black which points at me
Turn 'round quick and start to run
Find out I'm the chosen one
    Oh, no! Oh!
    [Verse 2]
Big black shape with eyes of fire
    Telling people their desire
    Satan's sitting there, he's smiling
Watches those flames get higher and higher
Oh, God, please, help me! Oh, no!
    [Verse 3]
Child cries out for its mother
    Mother's screaming in the fire
    Satan points at me again
Opens the door to push me in
    Oh no! Oh, God!
    [Outro]
Is it the end, my friend?
    Satan's coming 'round the bend
    People running 'cause they're scared
The people better go and beware
    No, no, please God, no!

    Brilliant!
This version better reflects the horror theme they wanted to create. Truly artistic, each instrument supporting the others and all playing around the vocals and the perfect interpretation of the diminished 5th, thus creating "heavy metal."

Bootlegs are titled all srots of different things, usually having little or nothing to do with their content. One show can be distributed under 10+ different names byt even more distibutors, and it's still the same show, possibly the same recording, etc. And it is true, one such bootleg of this show was distibuted as "Rat Salard"...after the song, no doubt.

Mannn I’ve been trying to find a live performance of them playing the song Black Sabbath live. This could be the audio associated with that live performance.
It was in black and white and it was very early in in their career. When the guitar drops with all that heavy metal distortion it’s crazy. But the thing that stood out the most is when the song calms down and Ozzie starts singing his verse, the camera pans over to peoples faces in the crowd. And it’s not a far away pan either, this camera man is zoomed in right up to these people’s faces and the looks on their face... oh man. They looked scared, in shock, and like wtf is this. It was such a raw moment
Anyways this is a live performance of this song I saw a while ago back in like 2012-2013? It’s nowhere to be found at all anymore. I’ve searched over the years here and there for it but I think they took it down because of how zoomed in they were on the crowd’s faces.

@@dragonlady266 Exactly. Thats why I was questioning the date. If the record had already been released, then why tour playing a different version?

@@dragonlady266 War Pigs was a version before it was recorded. I think in both cases it was before it was recorded. Thats why I questioned the date.
