Kirstie Saunders In Scotland we intorduced the PVG scheme because of the Soham murders as part of the case recommendations so basically anyone wanting to work with children or vulnerable adults need to undergo police checks and really intense background checks before being given employment in one of these sectors... not sure if England do the same sort of thing though.... x
We have it here in Australia too, you have to get a background police check done and a “working with children” card for childcare, teaching, jobs in schools or any job where you’re around children, my boyfriend even needs one as he’s a builder and they occasionally work in schools. Such an important thing, so sad that it wasn’t in place before this happened to the girls :(
the background checks in the UK started as a result of these murders. I grew up near where it happened and we studied local schools in history and one of the reasons for the increased safeguarding laws in schools now was because of these murders and the fact he managed to get a job in a school despite previous allegations because of the lack of checks/resources available then
How can you accidentally murder TWICE in the same time: -why was the bath filled -how hard and how long was his hand over her mouth -how did she fall in the bath -why wasn’t she pulled out straight away Really doesn’t make sense
He said that the bath was full because he was cleaning his dog, didn’t say anything about how long he was holding her, he said he accidentally bumped into her to knock her into the bath and he says he didn’t pull her out because he was 1. Shocked and scared and 2. Was too pre occupied with blocking the other girls mouth to “stop her screaming”. He has so much bullshit excuses for it, he was loving the attention he got
@@ReyRanAway he was going to take a bath who runs a bath & walks outside to talk to 2 young girls who just happen to be walking by? I think the dog had run over to them & they brought it back which us how he got them both in the house!
yeh like how does a 10-year old drown in a bath that easily? she can stand-up also, how did she suffocate you don't need to cover her nose you can't scream from your nose
My mums boyfriend at the time actually was one of the first police officers/detectives on the scene that found the girls with his sniffer dog and he called my mum after he left the scene in tears and it deeply affected him ;( such a sad case
Can I just say, i love how respectful you are, how compassionate you and how unemotional you get with child cases. I think they are just as important and they aren’t reported on so much because so many people are so sensitive to them. (Which isn’t a bad thing for people) but it’s nice to see someone who can cover these stories so seriously and accurately
How would Holly have drowned from just falling in the bath? Couldn't they have pulled her out of the bath... or couldn't she have just gotten out of it? Why would anyone believe his story when he didn't do anything to try and save Holly? That completely discredits him.
Rachel Kappius I know right when he said she "drowned" right when she fell into the bath, I was just like ummm you could have come up with a better lie. And the fact that the bathtub was just filled for this young girl to fall in and die right away????
she could have possibly been disorientated from the nose bleed? i honestly don't really know what I believe but he was obviously buried them knowingly.
Madison Miller Scotland introduced the PVG scheme as a recommendation on this case so that anyone working with children and vulnerable adults need fo go through very indepth police and background checks... not sure about England though... i know it doesnt help what did happen but will hopefully prevent this type of thing happening again x
182suzie2011 that's great that Scotland is doing that! Everywhere needs to that same thing. I feel like so many criminals end up working in jobs with close proximity to children, and other vulnerable people. It's so sad
Madison Miller back then there was no such thing as police back ground checks on anyone who came from a different area its actually told in the documentary called Soham: 15 years on I've watched its very insightful and explains a lot.
I believe they got introduced because of this case. The uk do intensive checks now. They're a lot of safeguarding policies that have been put in place since this happened
The second you said Ian Huntley I got chills all over my body. I remember when this was on the news, I was only 6 but the image of Holly and Jessica in their Manchester tops is one that I'm sure it burned into the mind of everyone in England who saw this at the time
Same, I was also 6 and still to this day that photo of the two girls and the names Holly Wells and Jessica Chapman are well and truly burnt into my brain ☹️
Libby A yes, I think I was around 8 when this happened and I still remember their photo on the news. It’s weird how stuff like this sticks with you even when you’re so young!
"The ten year old drowned in the tub." How could he have possibly thought that people would be stupid enough to believe that the ten year old wouldn't have been able to save herself from drowning in the bath tub? Also, why was there water in the bath tub if there weren't any bad intentions?!
@@dZRize with 2 other people in the bathroom? And nobody pulled her out? Even if she did bump her head it’s literally a bathtub. What’s the likelihood of her falling in a shallow tub in the exact way that her head is continuously underwater?
Abduction cases always hit home to me because my great grandma and her best friend were almost kidnapped when they were younger. As little children they were playing out in the yard which was close to the road. There was a van that drove past and a man got out with a dog and asked if they wanted to pet it. Of course this was a long time ago and they lived in a small town where everybody knew and trusted eachother. So they said yes and he then explained that his dog had puppies and if they wanted he would take them to go see them. My great grandmother and her friend trusted him and got in the car. After they were driving a bit they began getting a little suspicious of what was going on and started asking to use the bathroom. They nagged the man until he finally pulled into a gas station and let them go into the bathroom but he was standing outside the door. Luckily there was a window in the bathroom and they got out and ran to the nearest house where they got help and had someone take them home. Abductions are no joke and i wouldnt be alive if they had not realized what was going on. Thank you Eleanor for the wonderful video as always you did an amazing job
Kathi c he was obviously planning on murdering them otherwise he wouldn't have the breath filled up with Water and then accidently kill both kids. He is a sicko
how do you accidentally drown and suffocate someone? it was no accident. his story is total BS. he straight up murdered those poor girls! gosh, him claiming it was an accident really pisses me off. thank God he will rot in prison. he doesn't deserve to see the light of day ever again. RIP Holly and Jessica😔❤
Literally if I was a barrister or judge and he came out with that blatant bullshit my automatic 'BITCH R U SERIOUS?' face would have come on. Why did he not just admit it.
Another thing is why did he clean his house if it was an accident ? It may have not been premeditated but his behavior afterwards was suspicious and he probably would have gotten a lesser sentence if he called it in Immediately because it was an accident... Allegedly
@@darksoulxx9013 How can murdering two people by accident be common though? Also, it's actually much more easier to take out a drowning girl from a bathtube than for her to drown in it... It's not an ocean. I only can agree with falling accidentally, which may happens, but not on two deaths...
Iris Van Dalen I know right, I have been waiting for Eleanor's themed week for a while now. And not only is there going to be seven videos, but eight. It's going to be a great week. a great week.
Ian Huntley was the “caretaker” of the school that the girls went to. Holly’s Dad even went to the school caretakers house the night they went missing..... and spoke to Huntley!
He was, you're very correct. And Maxine Carr was NOT the teacher, she was a Classroom Assistant. It has bugged me watching the video with these inaccuracies.
Isn’t Ian Huntley the reason we have dbs checks now? Correct me if I’m wrong just my psychology teacher said he was a big part of the reason we now have that.
@@emilynotley6627 its kinda complex because dbs checks are an updated version from the CRBs introduced 6 months after Huntley killed the girls. So CRB was and technically by extension DBS wouldn't exist without that but its a more updated version introduced years later, I think 6.
@@collideescope7184 I can never understand why they changed from CRB to DBS checks. The DBS checks reveal everything, including irrelevant things like parking tickets and informal warnings given for trivial offences like public harassment and affray and the possession of weed. Unnecessary to include such trivial matter. Oh, the madness of Theresa May (I think).
my mum remembers watching the updates on the news as it was happening, she was watching it with her grandma when they interviewed ian huntley the first time. her grandma said "he did it" whilst they were watching the first interview with ian huntley, when she tells me about it, i honestly get chills
this may be interesting but my mum used to work with ian huntley. they used to meet in the morning and walk up to work together, after work, they would meet and he would drive behind her to make sure she got home safe. she didn’t know him too well but she always said he seemed like a nice, genuine person, it’s crazy to think what people are capable of
I'm not surprised and it explains a lot. He was doing something to get young woman to fall in love with him in such a short period of time. He was acting as a protector to gain their trust. It kinda sounds like he was trying that with your mom and it didnt work.
@@msl381 is not a crazy theory is the truth at that time american forces was strong in soham tony Blair had to do cover up on this case or else the entire nation in Britian would have went mayhem if the public found out american troops were behind the murder
Jessica Chapman didn’t have her own Manchester United shirt. She was actually wearing Holly’s brother Oliver’s shirt on the day of their abduction. The girls obviously wanted to dress alike and so Oliver had allowed Jessica to wear his shirt. X
Man united did a minutes silence for the girls in games vs Chelsea and Newcastle back in 2002. Beckham dedicated two goals he scored to them too. RIP holly and Jessica❤️
@@sparkeymcmurphy yes I agree it’s useless but it is still a nice thing to do - when Man U and Beckham decided to do the minutes silence and dedicate the goal they didn’t do it because they thought it would help the case they did it to be nice and show support as well as raise national awareness for the case. I’m just trying to find where in my original comment I said it was useful I just stated what they did
I remember this case. I was a young mother of 3year old twin girls. I was also living in a women's refuge when the story broke. At the time everyone hated Maxine Carr, including myself. Almost 20 years later and having finally, after 17 long years of domestic abuse, I divorced my abuser. I've started volunteering in a women's refuge and I see Maxine Carr differently now. I've had training as to how domestic abuse affects victims. It's not as cut and dry as I used to think. For lying and providing an alibi for Huntley she did her time. I don't believe she deserves the hate she gets, I don't think we know enough about her, whether she is also an abuser or if she was just as much a victim in this.
@@mattb6704 i dont think they’re a ‘complete moron’, obviously what she did was horrendous and she deserves time for it but maybe Huntley threatened her to cover up for him? or maybe said he would do the same to her if she told anyone. obviously she’s just as much as responsible as he is but maybe there’s another side to the story. again i’m not saying what she did was okay or should be glossed over because she’s still as guilty as Huntley
i respect your perspective, but thats different, she knew the children were murdered, and she helped cover it up. i would agree with you if she didnt know, but she did.
Narcissistic people. They get a buzz out of seeing what they have caused and they think they can get away with it so parade themselves in front of the cameras and at searches etc xxxxx
Omg I’m only up to 11.28 but when the teacher was talking I immediately questioned why she said “I’ll keep this with me forever” when she was talking about the card that she was given. As soon as you then mentioned the fact that she was talking in past tense I got shivers right through me x
I’ve followed you since this video and I’m currently on a Neale binge because I’ve watched every single video you’ve ever uploaded. I’ve gotta say… it’s been soooo nice watching you progress and grow into yourself this past year Eleanor. This video, it’s clear you put so much effort and time into. But looking at your most recent uploads in comparison… girrrrl you’ve done so incredibly well. I’m so so proud of you.
I noticed the way she was talking in the interview too, but I assumed that I just mixed up the timeline in my head and they had already been found. I can't imagine how creepy it was for the reporters and public who also noticed the way she was talking Before they had been found.
In the US, child rapists and murderers are bottom of the barrel type criminals in any prison. Officials often have to put them in some sort of protective custody so they won't be raped or murdered themselves by other prisoners. They are the most despised kind of criminal among criminals.
Annette O it really makes me happy how much hate they get from other criminals. Like cold blooded gangsta still don’t fuck with kids like that. I would love to be a thug that beat up child killers
Not just a US thing. Child killers / sex offenders are kept in a separate wing from other prisoners in the UK as they're particularly vulnerable to being attacked.
This is because most criminals were treated badly as children making them criminals in adult hood...criminals aka people who steal and are even in gangs don’t like when people mess with kids..they know how it feels most of the time. That’s why they gang up on the chomos.
Oh yeah right "I didn't know about the murders" she can say that all she wants but the entire reason the couple was looked into was because she used the past tense when talking about the girls in that interview. If she didn't know they were dead why did she use that language? She might not have helped him kill them, but she 100% helped cover it up and her lying saying she didn't know anything is ridiculous.
I watched a documentary on this once and one of the police officers at the burial site disclosed that the girls had been hugging in the grave. That broke me.
if maxine didn't know the girls were murdered, why did she use the past tense? you brought that up at 10:36 and ,, idk why did everyone think using the past tense when speaking of the girls was weird & still deemed her unaware of her husband's crime?
Wasn’t she their teacher/teacher’s assistant in the previous year or something? I’ve seen teachers in life talking about former students in the past tense, since after the year’s over, they don’t usually maintain much contact, so they say something like “she was an amazing student, and was a really sweet girl” instead of using “is”.
I agree with both points here. It isn't particularly unusual to talk about your former students in the past tense in certain ways, "she was a great student". Maybe this year she's not, I don't know. The thing I did think was weird was when she said she would treasure the paper from them. Like she knew they weren't going to find the girls alive.
After that interview police where onto her straight away they noticed how she spoke in past tense and thats what made them look into Ian Huntley more closely :)
It was odd when she pulled out the peice paper from one of the girls and said something like "I'll keep this for the rest of my life" that struck me as a really weird thing to say
I normally watch all your true crime videos, but I would just cry my way through is as this is too close to personal for me. I’m from Soham & have a close connection to this case. I just wanted to say, thank you for covering this & I’m sure you covered it with amazing respect.
Thank you for all the time you put in your videos. Please never stop doing them. I'm an agency/travel nurse. Right now my contract is 3 hours from home (I work three 12's/week). I listen to your videos on my 6 hr round trip drives and it makes the drive go much quicker. ❤
If it was an “accident” he wouldn’t have burned their clothes and their clothes, later disposed of their clothes, meticulously cleaned his car and home, denied the whole thing until the eleventh hour, etc. Definitely shows that he murdered these two girls instead of it just being an “accident.” Rest in peace Holly and Jessica. 💗
Thank you Eleanor for the effort you put into every one of these videos. 8 videos back to back must be so tiring and time consuming but you make it look easy and you NEVER put out content that I (and probably many others watching this) miss. Thank you for your dedication! ♥
So my uncle works in security at Franklin Prison and Huntley has actually decided to transition to a woman, and has put in the official requests. Who knows he might actually be genuine about it, but from what my uncle has heard and seen, Huntley believes he will have an easier time in a woman's prison. Hopefully no one tells him he will be absolutely ripped to shreds and won't last a day.
Hanna Isayno No way. I did some extra digging after reading your comments and there is absolutely no way he’s innocent. You really shouldn’t stan for child killers, it’s not a good look.
Hanna Isayno he was there and he admitted it, he also had a past of violence crimes. why would he admit and who else would of done it? he did, ur just a troll.
its shayy i think it was because the murderer of holly & jess was unexpected as it was the man who was helping the investigation so they thought that might’ve been the case with madeleine & her murderer/kidnapper was someone helping the investigation
@@ella3347 I don't know where people are looking when they say this stuff about the McCann's as I only ever saw parents that were desperate to find their child.
I used to work in Soham (lived in Newmarket at the time) and the place is still so heavily affected by the murders. No one in the pub I worked at would ever talk about it, even after many pints no one wanted to discuss it. House prices in Soham are still lower than everywhere else in the surrounding area decades later. I managed the bar for a Wells family wake too. They were really sweet and the dad gave me a very generous tip. Holly's big brother was very shy and subdued and told me he still can't stand funerals. Soham is such a lovely town full of wonderful people and I really hope it heals and recovers from what Huntley did. I have really fond memories of working there for 3 years
"Yeah, she just fell into the full bathtub with the two of us sitting there and didn't do anything. Then I consoled her friend and accidently suffocated her." Like are you for fucking real?!
I know this isn't important to the case but the girls were said to go to the shop for sweets however the police appeal said the two girls had no money? Xxx
Bethany Williams I think they meant that they hadn't taken a lot of money, like 100 pounds to run away with out of a piggy bank. When I went to get sweets when I was little, sometimes I had only like 20 cents with me which nobody investigating would notice.
I remember this case so much from when I was younger, my mum was so invested in this case and we cried when the bodies was found. Maxine Carr now lives (or used to live) in Bridlington, it’s well known (I live there) and no one was happy about it - quite a few people found out her new identity
This case happened long before I became a parent, but even after I had kids it's stuck with me. As a parent, you want to think that if there's *anyone* safe to be around your children, it's their teachers...and this case proved that, sometimes, that trust can be *catastrophically* misplaced.
After looking into the James Bulger case I came across this one and I told myself I'd look at it soon but hadn't got around to it, then I go to my sub box today and you've done a video! Thanks for this I'm intrigued to hear.
His defence lawyer is a close family friend of ours and she’s defended many other criminals but had the hardest time with Ian Huntley she really despised him and described him as pure evil.
I watched this after seeing one of your recent videos in which you comment about how old this video is and how you might redo it. Personally, I think it was really informative and there’s no need for you to redo it! I love your format and the fact you have snippets from relevant documentaries really helps.
My parents went to school with this guy, he was in my mum’s year and he was one of my dad’s friends. I live in Grimsby and my parents told me about him a couple months back this is so fkn creepy knowing that someone who was close to my parents and was born near to where I live can be capable of this.
jdjmjdsmjdmjidjidsids my mum said he gave most women the creeps but somehow he could manipulate other girls by acting charismatic and friendly, my mum didn’t like him at all though as he was very creepy. My dad was best friends with his brother Wayne and when he went round to their house Wayne would tell my dad not to say anything around Ian because he would start an argument over everything and would take things the wrong way. When they were young (I’m not sure what the exact age is) Ian was beat up by someone in his year and his head was bashed on the ground pretty hard, my dad said this could be something to do with how he acted and for what he did to Jessica and holly. His upbringing was normal, he had very kind parents and a lovely family and his brother is a great person showing that it isn’t something caused by home life otherwise his brother would have turned out the same or at the least he would be a bad person right? so there’s not many other reasons other than it just being the way he was born. I’ve seen before in other murderers that accidents like this can cause their brain to act differently so this could be the reason he is the way he is. He had sexually abused many women in the Grimsby area before he moved and my parents say he should have been locked up for that but it was completely ignored by the police. He was extremely manipulative and a very angry man although around women he would act like a nice guy to gain their trust. Sorry for the long comment but I wanted to address everything I can remember from this conversation I had with my parents, I hope this helped 💕
@@chloe-zh2ux on an unrelated note have you seen the absolute ridiculous conspiracy theories floating round the comments some idiot just sent me this link www.abovetopsecret.com/forum/thread231461/pg1 what a load of shite
jdjmjdsmjdmjidjidsids I haven’t until now, it’s absolutely ridiculous. Ian Huntley is a horrible person and my parents got to see that first hand. When Jessica and holly were murdered he tried to be in the limelight as much as possible, organising events to try and find the girls and talking to reporters at every given chance because he got some kind of boost, thinking he couldn’t be caught and he thought he was a genius for being right under the polices nose without them realising it. He got so much enjoyment from murdering those two girls and it’s absolutely disgusting, anyone who thinks otherwise is seriously just as dumb as Ian was to think he could get away with this 🤦🏼♀️
jdjmjdsmjdmjidjidsids I also just remembered something my dad said awhile ago about Ian. He said Ian was small and wasn’t strong enough to stand up to any man which is why he attacked women instead. He said people on tv making documentaries about Ian act like he’s some kind of mastermind but in reality he was quite stupid and just reacts on impulse. When he lived in Grimsby he’d start an argument with a guy (being the angry person he was) but would never be able to stand up for himself. He was weak and stupid. It’s so sad that he targeted these 2 poor girls so he could feel some sort of control. I believe that’s why he did it because of that information my dad told me. He targeted mainly younger women and thought he was smart for attacking them (sexually abusing, physically abusing and mentally abusing them) and getting away with it every time so when he committed these murders he thought he could get away with this. he had grown such a big ego because the police never bothered to charge him for what he did and these girls and their poor family had to suffer for it. it’s truly disgusting and I can’t believe a person like him exists and so close to where I live too
Been waiting for this!!!!! This story will never leave my heart I remember seeing those 2 girls all over the news and was so frightened to walk anywhere alone!!! I was a similar age and they reminded me of me and my best friend one being blonde and brunette :( xxx
Love all your content. I think you are so respectful and you made the saddest content actually really informative and understanding. I love real life crime but find some of the channels a little too much. Your mum must be so proud of you.

Eleanor dear it makes perfectly sense to upload your first video of this week during monday. Thanks you though, you made my gloomy monday so much better!
Randi Keene girl I wish I was you! I have to watch these in the mornings or early afternoon or else I’ll feel like someone’s gonna sneak up behind me and kill me while I’m asleep
Ian’s girlfriend may have been out of town when he abducted these precious girls but there’s no telling when they were killed or who participated in disposing their bodies. When I heard her interview I immediately knew she knew something we didn’t when she referred to them in past tense. That’s a big tell! Thanks Eleanor for sharing all these cases with us in your caring, respectful manner.
I was a bit taken aback when the teacher was saying ‘was’ but then thought maybe the interview was a bit after the girls disappeared. Nope, I was right.
I suspect that she thought he had something to do with it, if not outright knew at that time and was possibly terrified to say anything. She didn't confess until he was locked up.
I worked in Soham from 2010 to 2013 (at the Comrades Club opposite The Fountain) and noticed there was still a lot of hurt around these murders. Such a shame because I have really fond memories of working in such a lovely town full of great people ❤
Drew Barnes i live in the village even though it has been 18 yrs people still don’t trust that house that girls were murdered in no one has been in it since
I was the same age as these girls. I remember hearing this at the time and it's probably how I became so invested in true crime. This case has always stuck with me.
I'm from Scunthorpe and I'm two years younger than Holly & Jessica (I'm 28 this year), when Ian Huntley was arrested there were news articles and neighbourhood watch groups asking people if their kids recognised or had any interactions with Ian or Maxine, I remembered seeing Maxine around regularly and she always looked really timid so it was a surprise to hear what had happened, crazy to remember watching the search on live TV at night when they found the badger mounds too and then in all the papers for weeks, just a case that's hard to forget, Holly & Jessica and Sarah Payne really changed the way kids are protected, got so many memories from that time.
I always remember that my mum was watching the news about this and she turned around to me even though I was only 7 or 8 and she just said "it was him, I know it was" about Ian Huntley. Every time I hear about this case my mind just goes straight back to that moment. Maybe that was where my interest in everything like that started
Funny you say that cos my fascination with true crime started with this case too. It was the first case I got invested in. I was only 11 at the time, but I started watching a lot of true crime programmes on TV on Sky after this case.

Wow! This took me back, I was assigned to RAF Mildenhall at the time this horrible crime happened. I remember being terribly worried about those girls, and commenting to one of my co workers, “ those girls have been missing too long, nothing good will come from this”. You are so right when you say everyone was so emotionally involved, I have never forgotten the names Holly and Jessica, it’s always in my brain. The last thing you’d ever expect in that area was such a violent, crime...well, back then , I’m not sure how it is now, I do miss the Fens very much. I enjoy your videos a lot. This one struck I guess in my heart hearing those girls names again.
I live in Lakenheath and I went to Soham Village College. Not much has changed and it’s still very quiet here, nothing like this has happened since thankfully x
Curious how the cops said the girls didn’t bring any money with them but they went out to buy sweets..? 🤔 But this is such a sad case... Thank you for posting it! You do so well explaining.
Heaven M I think they meant that they hadn't taken a lot of money, like 100 pounds to run away with out of a piggy bank. When I went to get sweets when I was little, sometimes I had only like 20 cents with me which nobody investigating would notice.
Nicole Shaddix True. I’ve just noticed in other cases they’ll mention that the kid(s) brought a small amount of money with them (like $5, $10) but that was all they had. Just caught my attention. But that’s true- probably wouldn’t mention it if it was a minuscule amount.
I live literally 10 mins away from Soham, I remember this happening and I was like 5 at the time, I have mutual friends on FB with Holly’s mum, it’s so weird hearing people talk about near where I live on TH-cam. Kinda like the Shannon Matthews thing for you, it’s weird. Can’t wait to watch though
I went to ely college at the time of this ( no one trusted our caretaker beforehand and definitely didn't after this ) Carr was not innocent at all, she should have gotten more time! she helped him and every one knows it, that's why she's had 2 new identities since this..she doesn't deserve a child too or taxpayer's money..they also found evidence in the bath drain but i think she covered it all..

My parents use to live near there. The day that the bodies were found my parents were walking through that woods with my dog. If they were there less than half an hour earlier they would have found the girls bodies. To this day my mum is terrified of those woods as the two girls were friends with my aunt.

They think talking in the past tense is strange. It can be, I believe that. But like, I talk in the past tense all the time. If I'm talking about a person I haven't recently seen and spoken to or hung out with, I'm gonna talk about them in past tense. Let's just hope I never get interviewed for a missing person's case, because I will be talking in past tense. It's not a thing I really think about.
I remember this case quite well, even though I would’ve only been about 5 years old I remember it being on the front of every news paper, I remember my mum reading it and telling me to stay safe and that there were bad people around. But I never knew the 100% details, so I was so excited when I saw you uploaded this!
OMG I AM SOOOOOOO HAPPY U HAVE DONE THIS TRAGIC, SAD STORY!!...I REMEMBER THIS SO WELL AND HAVE ALWAYS FOLLOWED IT, SO U NOW DOING IT SO WELL, IS AMAZING!!It always made me soooooo sick about both of these evil 'people'!!....from time he was on the news at beginning I KNEW he was involved and when it all came out especially regarding Maxine too!!it made me physically SICK!!!God Bless these poor girls and their families 🙏🏾🙏🏾🙏🏾
What is this lipstick?! It’s so beautiful and really compliments her hair color/complexion! Also anybody watch Georgia Marie..she looks like a long lost sister of Eleanor’s lol 😆.
Holly and Jessica were only about a year younger than me, I remember it happening really well. Really early on in the case, one of my uncles saw Ian Huntley interviewed on the news, and said straight away "he's got something to do with it". Obviously it's nothing to be proud of for him to be proved right, but I think it's important to be able to recognise a psychopath when you see one.
The fact he got a job in a school after what he’d previously admitted/been charged with is insane.
Kirstie Saunders In Scotland we intorduced the PVG scheme because of the Soham murders as part of the case recommendations so basically anyone wanting to work with children or vulnerable adults need to undergo police checks and really intense background checks before being given employment in one of these sectors... not sure if England do the same sort of thing though.... x
182suzie2011 England do the same, not sure when it started but I have to have a background check to do a childcare college course ☺️
I grew up near where it happened and we studied local schools in history and one of the reasons for the increased safeguarding laws in schools now was because of these murders and the fact he managed to get a job in a school despite previous allegations because of the lack of checks/resources available then
He got a job at a college. I'm sure if he'd tried to get hired on at a school like where Maxine got on at, he would have been denied.
How can you accidentally murder TWICE in the same time:
-why was the bath filled
-how hard and how long was his hand over her mouth
-how did she fall in the bath
-why wasn’t she pulled out straight away
Really doesn’t make sense
He said that the bath was full because he was cleaning his dog, didn’t say anything about how long he was holding her, he said he accidentally bumped into her to knock her into the bath and he says he didn’t pull her out because he was 1. Shocked and scared and 2. Was too pre occupied with blocking the other girls mouth to “stop her screaming”. He has so much bullshit excuses for it, he was loving the attention he got
The only possible reason is that he was going to take a bath soon, and that Holly tripped? But then again, he could have easily gotten her out.
That was some made up rubbish and he's still sticking to it!!
Well he put his hand over her mouth? That takes alot of time & it's doubtful it would kill someone he probably raped & strangled or beat them!
@@ReyRanAway he was going to take a bath who runs a bath & walks outside to talk to 2 young girls who just happen to be walking by? I think the dog had run over to them & they brought it back which us how he got them both in the house!
Ah yes, the old "She had a nosebleed and I accidentally knocked her into a bath and she drowned in four seconds" excuse. Works everytime.
This has no business being this funny
Yes, it is nonsense especially when it should take a lot longer to drown someone in a bath it takes 4 mins to drown someone, not four seconds.
yeh like how does a 10-year old drown in a bath that easily? she can stand-up
also, how did she suffocate you don't need to cover her nose you can't scream from your nose

That's what I was thinking as well, it sounds so unlikely that something like what he "confessed" could've happened
she could have possibly been disorientated from the nose bleed? i honestly don't really know what I believe but he was obviously buried them knowingly.
and what would be the reason to have a filled tub when you're assisting with a nosebleed.
clairvoyages good point 👍
I just wanna know HOW he got a job as a caretaker with his past?? Did they not do background checks?!
Madison Miller my mum in fact used to work with him. he used to drive behind her to make sure he got home safe . weird
The second you said Ian Huntley I got chills all over my body. I remember when this was on the news, I was only 6 but the image of Holly and Jessica in their Manchester tops is one that I'm sure it burned into the mind of everyone in England who saw this at the time
Its an image i remember well and always will. Such a tragic story. Poor girls.
Same, I was also 6 and still to this day that photo of the two girls and the names Holly Wells and Jessica Chapman are well and truly burnt into my brain ☹️
You're right. The picture is infamous. I would have said iconic (in relation to the case) but i feel that word is inappropriate
Libby A yes, I think I was around 8 when this happened and I still remember their photo on the news. It’s weird how stuff like this sticks with you even when you’re so young!
I was the same age and this picture and all of the news reports are unforgettable.
"The ten year old drowned in the tub."
How could he have possibly thought that people would be stupid enough to believe that the ten year old wouldn't have been able to save herself from drowning in the bath tub?
Also, why was there water in the bath tub if there weren't any bad intentions?!

Thank you Eleanor for the wonderful video as always you did an amazing job
oh my god glad their okay
Why would he have the tub filled with water? I don’t understand why the tub was filled.
Kathi c he was obviously planning on murdering them otherwise he wouldn't have the breath filled up with Water and then accidently kill both kids. He is a sicko
well, maybe he or his vile girlfriend were having a bath?
Kathi c I didn’t even realize that wow your smart :)
Never mind that. How can you not save her
How does a competent 10 year old drown in a bath like even if she fell in couldn't she have just stood up and got out?
how do you accidentally drown and suffocate someone? it was no accident. his story is total BS. he straight up murdered those poor girls! gosh, him claiming it was an accident really pisses me off. thank God he will rot in prison. he doesn't deserve to see the light of day ever again. RIP Holly and Jessica😔❤
Marissa Kraus I know I can't believe people on here are saying it was probably an accident , crap!
Literally if I was a barrister or judge and he came out with that blatant bullshit my automatic 'BITCH R U SERIOUS?' face would have come on. Why did he not just admit it.
I'm not agreeing with him but it's more common then you expect
Another thing is why did he clean his house if it was an accident ? It may have not been premeditated but his behavior afterwards was suspicious and he probably would have gotten a lesser sentence if he called it in Immediately because it was an accident... Allegedly
@@darksoulxx9013 How can murdering two people by accident be common though? Also, it's actually much more easier to take out a drowning girl from a bathtube than for her to drown in it... It's not an ocean. I only can agree with falling accidentally, which may happens, but not on two deaths...
8 DAYS OF TRUE CRIME! This is gonna be a good week
Iris Van Dalen I know right, I have been waiting for Eleanor's themed week for a while now. And not only is there going to be seven videos, but eight. It's going to be a great week. a great week.
As soon as I read this she said it 😱😱😱😱😱😱😱
Ian Huntley was the “caretaker” of the school that the girls went to. Holly’s Dad even went to the school caretakers house the night they went missing..... and spoke to Huntley!
He was, you're very correct. And Maxine Carr was NOT the teacher, she was a Classroom Assistant. It has bugged me watching the video with these inaccuracies.
Maxine worked at their school as a teaching assistant but Huntley was another local high school, not the girls school.
Oh, the madness of Theresa May (I think).
my mum remembers watching the updates on the news as it was happening, she was watching it with her grandma when they interviewed ian huntley the first time. her grandma said "he did it" whilst they were watching the first interview with ian huntley, when she tells me about it, i honestly get chills
this may be interesting but my mum used to work with ian huntley. they used to meet in the morning and walk up to work together, after work, they would meet and he would drive behind her to make sure she got home safe. she didn’t know him too well but she always said he seemed like a nice, genuine person, it’s crazy to think what people are capable of
sun floer that’s so crazy, i wonder what she thought when this happened. must of been very confusing
It's a wonder he didn't try anything as he's been dodgy since very young and violent
I'm not surprised and it explains a lot. He was doing something to get young woman to fall in love with him in such a short period of time. He was acting as a protector to gain their trust. It kinda sounds like he was trying that with your mom and it didnt work.

She knew a child had been murdered and helped cover it up.
Wake up you complete moron.

I know it's crazy that even criminals have a conscience and hate people who hurt and murder children.
Same over here in Australia I think in most countries
Oh yeah right "I didn't know about the murders" she can say that all she wants but the entire reason the couple was looked into was because she used the past tense when talking about the girls in that interview. If she didn't know they were dead why did she use that language? She might not have helped him kill them, but she 100% helped cover it up and her lying saying she didn't know anything is ridiculous.
💯% 👏👏
I think it was a freundian slip. She didn’t KNOW he did it, and probably denied it to herself, but part of her suspected him
these girls have been missing, with so much stress going on in this town, what would you’ve said huh??
a lot of teachers also refer to their students in the past tense after the school year is over, i know i do that with old teachers
And theoretically she could have got life imprisonment for perjury.
Hello, I'm a criminology student and your videos are super helpful for case studies and they're very informative 😁😁
True what ur saying makes sense

This case happened long before I became a parent, but even after I had kids it's stuck with me. As a parent, you want to think that if there's *anyone* safe to be around your children, it's their teachers...and this case proved that, sometimes, that trust can be *catastrophically* misplaced.

I live in Grimsby and my parents told me about him a couple months back this is so fkn creepy knowing that someone who was close to my parents and was born near to where I live can be capable of this.
did they say if he acted weird or was he somewhat normal behaving?
jdjmjdsmjdmjidjidsids my mum said he gave most women the creeps but somehow he could manipulate other girls by acting charismatic and friendly, my mum didn’t like him at all though as he was very creepy.

Emma Ann it just proves that being alone , walking places alone doesn’t stop people 😖💓
Legitimately getting twitter only so I can see these updates, you're the best
Casper Dassens me tooo
Love all your content. I think you are so respectful and you made the saddest content actually really informative and understanding. I love real life crime but find some of the channels a little too much. Your mum must be so proud of you.
I'm from Chicago in the states and I love true crime channels and because of Eleanor I've gotten into alot more English, Irish, & Scottish true crime cases & channels and they are so well done, informative, entertaining and respectful to the victims , family, friends and other people involved in each case. & I loveeeeee Eleanors makeup especially her eyeliner which is always on point 💯💯 keep doing what your doing girl love your videos! 💚💚
Eleanor dear it makes perfectly sense to upload your first video of this week during monday. Thanks you though, you made my gloomy monday so much better!
This helps my anxiety while doing my homework anyone else?
Stephany Alvarez-lazu i do this too!!
Stephany Alvarez-lazu yes! These videos help me relax for bed!!! I appreciate them so much!
These actually stress me out and make me anxious but I watch them anyways lol
Randi Keene girl I wish I was you! I have to watch these in the mornings or early afternoon or else I’ll feel like someone’s gonna sneak up behind me and kill me while I’m asleep
Madison Miller hahahaa I have to do that with BuzzFeed unsolved. Those videos are creepy. Luckily, these true crime videos don't scare me much.
I'm so excited!!!!! Thanks for doing these-- it must be a crazy amount of work.
One of my friend’s mum was a prosecutor on this case, crazy how close to home things can be
Ikr my mums side of the family lived really close to there for years 😳
I went to Soham VC and helped searched for the girls. Terribly close to home for me xx
I’m from Soham, remember growing up and hearing about this. Still a very touchy topic for my village :(
I worked in Soham from 2010 to 2013 (at the Comrades Club opposite The Fountain) and noticed there was still a lot of hurt around these murders. Such a shame because I have really fond memories of working in such a lovely town full of great people ❤
I live in rural ireland and I still remember these girls.
Drew Barnes i live in the village even though it has been 18 yrs people still don’t trust that house that girls were murdered in no one has been in it since
Yep you got thar right.
Started watching you last night & now I’m hooked! Love your channel gal x
Omg yaaaaaass girl was literally looking to see if you had a new video minutes ago 😂 and can’t wait to watch you cover this case! And 8 days of true crime 👏🏻👏🏻👏🏻 I remember this case when it happened, poor girls
You've grown up soooo much in the past couple of years Eleanor!!
It's my pleasure watching you grow & improve leaps and bounds. 💛💛💛💛
Those 41 dislikes are Huntley's family
thats one big family
Riley Anderson 😂😂😂😂
379 dislikes,
THEYVE MULTIPLIED
396 now hahahahaha
408 as of Sept. 10, 2020
Curious how the cops said the girls didn’t bring any money with them but they went out to buy sweets..? 🤔
But this is such a sad case...
Heaven M they meant a significant amount, when people run away they usually take a fair amount of money to keep them going
Ye and if the parents didn’t know they left how did they get money
How do they know they bought sweets they didn't tell the parents where they were off too?
I live literally 10 mins away from Soham, I remember this happening and I was like 5 at the time, I have mutual friends on FB with Holly’s mum, it’s so weird hearing people talk about near where I live on TH-cam. Kinda like the Shannon Matthews thing for you, it’s weird. Can’t wait to watch though
adam evans same. I’m from Ely
adam evans a lot of this information is wrong though:/
Heidi Porter Is it, Heidi?
No it isn’t Heidi. What did she get wrong? I’m from Ely and know the case very well and she got it spot on.
I went to ely college at the time of this ( no one trusted our caretaker beforehand and definitely didn't after this ) Carr was not innocent at all, she should have gotten more time! she helped him and every one knows it, that's why she's had 2 new identities since this..she doesn't deserve a child too or taxpayer's money..they also found evidence in the bath drain but i think she covered it all..
im obsessed with your videos! seriously, best true crime channel on youtube. you should get your own netflix original series! i know we would all watch it religiously
i live about 10 mins away from where this happened and people are still HEARTBROKEN. it’s so famous in cambridgeshire
I live in Cambridgeshire and remember this case was quite famous.
When you introduce the people, can you show their pictures straight away so we can know exactly about what person you’re talking about ?! Thank you ! Hugs from Northamptonshire 🌸
*waves* also from Northamptonshire
And me 👋
RIP Holly and Jessica ❤️❤️
Love it when I’m sitting down to eat lunch and I get a notification from Eleanor 😍🙏
My parents use to live near there. The day that the bodies were found my parents were walking through that woods with my dog. If they were there less than half an hour earlier they would have found the girls bodies. To this day my mum is terrified of those woods as the two girls were friends with my aunt.
Holly is my aunt.
No joke

@@twilightcreations733 So who was Holly’s Godmother? By the way I went to Soham VC and know of the family.
By the way, Holly only had one brother and his children are not you, they are very young.
Thank you Eleanor, you helped me with my 'understanding evidence' module assignment in my forensic investigation course at university, by having all the important information in this one video, thanks!

Sorry
I know I won’t be able to sleep tonight, but I’ll risk it for a Elenor video! Plus I love me a true crime video.
I remember hearing this story when i was in primary school, can't believe the names still rang a bell in my head. my parents used this story to scare me from walking anywhere alone
Same! I was 5 and saw the newspaper in a supermarket and my mum told me about how the girls had been taken away and won’t see their mummies and daddies again and I have to be careful of strangers (even though it came out later they were taken by someone they kind of knew).
I was 2 days old. I can remember Baby P though, I remember looking up at the TV in my parents bedroom and seeing the photo of him :(
My sister keeps talking about how she Loves your accent and shes two years older than me😂✨🌊. I love your video’s and you help me through very tough times🥺🤍 so I just wanted to thank you🤍☁️
I know exactly what you mean. I listen to her videos every night to help me fall asleep. Plus the fact she part of the LGBTQ community and proud to be as going by your name you are as am I shows true pride and confidence xxxxxx
As someone who’s born and raised in Suffolk where the girls were found. You said Ian Huntley and it all came flooding back to me, watching this on the news growing up etc… Those poor poor little girls and their families 😭😭😭
Yessss aw I adore your videos thank you for being such a consistent amazing TH-camr ❤️❤️
Please do the case of Mary bell! Love your account, by far the BEST youtuber, xxxx
MC was given a job at my local library - didn’t take long for everyone to find out it was her even after a name change and (apparently) plastic surgery!
one of the james bulger murderers moved near me, everyone found out and burnt his house down but he still lives in my city
Fran Fox What a terrible fucking thing to say
Ellen M it is bad

Children*
They would have been 28 that's so sad, rest in peace lovelies. Too good for this world ❤️
They think talking in the past tense is strange.
OMG I AM SOOOOOOO HAPPY U HAVE DONE THIS TRAGIC, SAD STORY!!...I REMEMBER THIS SO WELL AND HAVE ALWAYS FOLLOWED IT, SO U NOW DOING IT SO WELL, IS AMAZING!!It always made me soooooo sick about both of these evil 'people'!!....from time he was on the news at beginning I KNEW he was involved and when it all came out especially regarding Maxine too!!it made me physically SICK!!!God Bless these poor girls and their families 🙏🏾🙏🏾🙏🏾

jazmin Gomez is hot thoo ^^
its blood! prick!
I remember this on the news when I was about 7. Weird to think these girls would have been coming up 30 this year. R.I.P
