Im sry, I guess I'm slower than everyone else. I haven't done math like this in a long time. I need more of an explanation on finding the vertex. Why do you change the sign from -2 to 2 but not the -3. Also, how did you come up with y=x², 1=1², and 4=2²?
Y=x^2 is an equation for the simplest parabola… 1=1^2 4= 2^2 and so on is the basic squaring principle, as the parabola uses similar ideas it doubles and either increases or decreases
He was describing how the y value changes as we move away from the vertex. Pretend our vertex was actually at (0,0). Then our function would be y = -3(x^2) So if we had x = 2, our 'y' point would be y = -3 (2^2) = -12 , IE: coordinate (2, -12) To graph that point for OUR function, we start at our vertex instead of (0, 0). (2, -12) shifted by our vertex (1,9): means we go to coordinate ( [2 +1], [-12+9] ) which is (3, -3). That's what he graphs for this point, not (2, -12). If that's confusing you can just use the original function and plug in x values to get your coordinate. Then graph those. At that point, x = 3: y = -3(3-1)^2 + 9 = -3(-2)^2 +9 = -3(4) + 9 y = - 3
No its (0, 4). The vertex is (h,k) where h is the x value that makes the function a minimun or a maximum and k is the sum after h is plugged in. Ex. (x-1)^2 + 3 --> Once h is plugged into x, h is -1 so (-1 + 1)^2 + 3 = 0 + 3 = 3 so that is why the y coordinate of the vertex is 4 in your example. In this case, x is 0 because 0^2 is 0. Hope this helped.
Ok you know the two in the outside of the brackets thats were he got it from in the first example he only did one squared because of the outer coefficient which was nothing in other words 1

if h is negative, turn it into positive, vice versa.
k never changes
h= x coordinate
k= y coordinate

You solve different from my teacher and text book
Excellent work bro
thx for the help on this one 👍

The -2 is changed to 2 and not 3 because it is inside the square bracket and when you take it out it always becomes the opposite.. I hope that helped

Omg that you thank you thank you! I'm dead if I didn't answer
How do u get -12 on the last one?
He was describing how the y value changes as we move away from the vertex.
Pretend our vertex was actually at (0,0).
Then our function would be y = -3(x^2)
So if we had x = 2, our 'y' point would be y = -3 (2^2) = -12 , IE: coordinate (2, -12)
To graph that point for OUR function, we start at our vertex instead of (0, 0).
At that point, x = 3:
y = -3(3-1)^2 + 9 = -3(-2)^2 +9 = -3(4) + 9
y = - 3

Slope Intercept form?
what if it is x² + 4 ? is it (0, -4)?
No its (0, 4). The vertex is (h,k) where h is the x value that makes the function a minimun or a maximum and k is the sum after h is plugged in. Ex. (x-1)^2 + 3 --> Once h is plugged into x, h is -1 so (-1 + 1)^2 + 3 = 0 + 3 = 3 so that is why the y coordinate of the vertex is 4 in your example. In this case, x is 0 because 0^2 is 0. Hope this helped.
