I love the shot with the light cut out in the background, your outfit, the fire and pup wandering. Great quality and content! (The edits are going next level - excited to see what 2024 holds for your channel)🎉❤
Just discovered your channel…Love it! Also, the pooch is a sweet zen touch of levity … I have a few recommendations among a gazillion …The Map & The Territory by Michel Houellebecq, Stoner by John Williams, The Known World by Edward P Jones if you haven’t read them already … I thoroughly loved the bee sting … many complained about the ending … but I felt it fit well … I’m eager to read a bunch of the books you mentioned … Prophet Song… The Birthday Party … The Gospel ….etc … more recommendations … Lincoln in the Bardo by George Saunders … The Beginning & The End by Naguib Mahfouz … there’s an anthology of one act plays called Telling Tales edited by Eric Lane that are intense …if you like poetry you may enjoy Self-Portrait in a Convex Mirror by John Ashbery … have a great day ! 😊
Thanks for the recommendations! I haven’t read them, but I will check them out. I loved The Bee Sting too, and really appreciated the final scene, although I understand the criticism because it was very unexpected, but brilliant! Thanks for watching and happy reading! 📚 🙏 😊
I just found your channel🎉 What a great list! I have not read them all, but I just finished The Bandit Queen last night. I read it in one day because I couldn't put it down. Also LOVED Boulder. We need more books like these 2! ❤
Yes, we totally need more books like these! Hopefully, 2024 will bring us such amazing debuts as Bandit Queens and lots of amazing works in translation! Thanks for watching and commenting! 📚 🙏 😃
You have inspired me to get back to the prize books sitting on my shelves. And I'm going to change gears and switch to The Birthday Party next. I wish I was talented enough to knit while listening to audiobooks but found I either get enthralled in the story and screw up my knitting or count out my stitches and find I missed much of the story. You live in a lovely part of the world - where I would expect it to be covered in a deep blanket of snow.
Let me know what you think of The Birthday Party! It was a green New Year, however we had snow last night and it’s a winter wonderland, finally! Happy New Year! Happy 😃 🙏 📚
That’s awesome! Study for Obedience is such a unique and different book. It has stayed with me as well. I’m so glad it won the Giller Prize as they tend to choose more conventional books. Thanks for watching and commenting! 📚 😃 🙏
😂 @ struggled not to use southern accent- Demon Copperhead is probably my fav read of ‘23 & I read a sh**ton of bangers- I Also read Still Born , Chain Gang Allstars, Study For Obedience, Wandering Souls, Black Butterflies, The Bandit Queens & The Bee Sting this year. Read Prophet Song last week & I’m confident it’ll be one of my favorites of ‘24. PS: love this whole outside aesthetic/ambiance 📖🪱💚
Wow, we have very similar reading tastes! Thanks for watching and commenting! The campfire was fun, but it wasn’t nearly as hot as I needed it to be. 😆 We have a winter wonderland here currently…which I will share in my next video, coming very shortly! Thanks again! 🙏 🔥 😊
Great list! New to the channel and found you through this video. I know that this isn’t one of the book awards that you said you follow, but it Chain-Gang All-Stars was actually nominated for the National Book Award (States). Love seeing it on your list! It was my favorite of the year. I’ve been wanting to check out Study For Obedience and Black Butterflies. Both sound amazing. The Bee Sting is everywhere right now! 😅 I suppose I’ll have to read it after all of these rave reviews. I just got Wandering Soul from my library and am really looking forward to it. I’m skeptical about Prophet Song due to its formatting. I don’t love that style of writing where things just run on and on. Maybe I’ll try it as an audiobook. Adding Still Born to the TBR. I also have never want to have children, so I’ll be curious about the emotional impact. The Bandit Queens 🙌 I have this on my bookshelf. Love the concept for it. I’ve actually never heard of your favorite book, so I’ll definitely have to go check it out now. I’ve subscribed to your channel and look forward to seeing more of your content soon!
We have many books in common! I’m so excited for you to read all of the books! I hope you have as wonderful an experience with them as I did. 2023 is going to be a hard year to beat in terms of books, but I can’t wait to try! 😆 Thanks for watching and commenting and welcome! 2024 is going to be great! 👍 📚 🙏 😃
The Bandit Queens and Black Butterflies are in my top reads this year. Prophet Song missed out for me, but I did think it was a worthy Booker winner, I preferred The House of Doors and Pearl on the list. Demon Copperhead was my top read last year. Theres a few there still on my TBR. Happy to hear that you had an excellent reading year.
I am reading House of Doors right now. Pearl almost made my list, but got edged out. It sounds like you had a good reading year too! Happy New Year!😊📚🙏
👏🏾👏🏾 I agree! I read The Birthday Party in December and it is a masterpiece of suspense. It’s was both agonizing (as in slow motion) and enthralling at the same time. I will be thinking about it for a long time. I thought Black Butterflies was simply a brilliant and beautiful debut - I couldn’t put it down. I haven’t gotten to Prophet Song, but I am going to pick up Wandering Souls tonight before it’s due back to the library. I was looking forward to your 2023 wrap up, thank you!
Have you read Elena Knows by Claudia Pineiro? If not, I recommend it highly. Concise, amazingly impactful writing. It was one of my 5 star reads of 2023.
Alas, I got halfway thru Wandering Souls and bailed. Just didn’t get invested or emotionally connected to the MC, unlike Black Butterflies which was riveting. That one left me dazed. Both Booker debuts, which is an amazing feat!

My production team is amazing! 😻 I’m very excited for 2024! 🙏 🔥 🐶 📚 😊

I loved Study for Obedience and the author’s writing style/choices! That book has stayed with me and thus made my top 10 for 2023

@@tam876Funny that you mention Elena Knows. I just picked it up from my library last night. It’s been on my radar for awhile. 😮 📕
@@tam876That’s too bad that you didn’t like Wandering Souls! God for you for making it through the list!🎉 📖
