While working on a larger project, I thought it'd be cool to give the Nameless Voice (Castle Drachenfels Whispers) another go - specifically giving him a visual look. Whaddya think - eyes or no eyes?
Attempt #1 was the Remember Rambler video
While working on a larger project, I thought it'd be cool to give the Nameless Voice (Castle Drachenfels Whispers) another go - specifically giving him a visual look. What do you think, eyes or no eyes? Should he be associated with a different color than red?
I think No eyes is better personally. At least with how the eyes are here they're too pronounced, too loud. Maybe if they were smaller and beady it'd look good. However with this it'd be better with no eyes. Awesome work btw!
No eyes, red is fine, albeit sick green might have work too
no eyes is way more creepy, so better imo
I think I like no eyes more, kinda plays into his disembodied voice shtick
no eyes definitely brings more emphasis on the mouth, especially with that grin to rival Jim Carrey
Personally I’m a big fan of no eyes for the whispers, I think it just looks that much more disturbing.
Though I will say the emotion in the eyes when telling Bardin he was running away was awesome to look at.
I think Janfon1 need to hint something of the upper face, like empty eye sockets, but otherwise, I agree.
No eyes is the way to go!
I pictured the voice as an ever changing mass of darkness with too many teeth forming a crooked smile, but this is probably easier to animate.
sincerely same hah, this is the best closest achievable thing for me
The master of shadows even. Wink wink.
*"YOU WILL DREAM OF TEETH AND NOTHING ELSE."*
@@Janfon1 isn’t this Saltzpyer head?
Kinda like DC Azazel?
The mouth only version feels better, gives it that Makuta feeling from Mask of Light.
Makuta? Now that's a name I haven't heard in a long time.
Honestly I wouldn't be surprised if Makuta gave/got some inspiration for that creature.
"Asleep, spares him pain... Awake, he suffers..."
Everyone's talking about the Namless Voice but the lighting in the opening is just DIVINE work! Great job!
Simple but effective
The voice was already creepy, but with that touching of Kerillian, imma need to make a call with big S and ask for some Sigmarine to hammer it down and good.
As far as it is shown here, I prefer version with no eyes, just the mouth. If I remember all the lines correctly, you don't need to track where they look (as in, there's no physical object that they'd need to point at in speeches), and having only mouth both makes the NV more unsettling and adds focus on, well, the mouth and the half-smile of cruel pleasure that it is curled into.
At the same time, that does also mean that there's significantly greater emphasis on lip-sync.
As for the colour... Red seems okay, but it might be interesting to either work in different colours depending on the exact line (e.g. lines that are set to remember Sienna about her burning people due to... questionable circumstances might be fiery bright-orange in tune with her own visual theme.) - or even have colours change gradually during each appearance. Materials might also be another thing worth playing with. After all, we are talking about Old World's villain's villain (also really old) with really vaguely defined extent of powers outside of "true evil never dies", so he isn't beholden to any one and only one thematic component unlike, say, demonic characters.
Edit:
Last-minute though: perhaps, it would be appropriate to have just the lips, well, "lips" (and the mouth itself, of course)? It's a cliche, but does seem somewhat appropriate here.
Wait, who is the old world main evil?
@@johnpsmith8132 Not *the main* evil, but more of a the great standard by which evil characters are measured. I'm talking about the Drachenfels himself, of course. The really evil caveman turned really evil warlord/wizard turned really evil spirit that possesses people (or tries to). Or at least this is what the NV seems to be.
Still can’t believe that was Be’Lakor all along
I like this interpretation of Drachenfels, good animation work man!
I like how that even with her almost emotionless pitch black eyes, you can sense the terror in Kerillian's eyes. Hope to see other animations featuring the rest of the crew reacting to the voice.
The character responses in the files are named “archdaemon_response” which means the voice is most likely a great unclean one or a lord of change
Its Belakor from the looks of it from olesya and the new chaos wastes update
i did not need to see this damn thing with a face, i feared it less without a face....
The Dairy Queen Lips have gone through some shit.
In all seriousness, that’s fucking terrifying and really well done.
LMAO
The fact that Drachenfels followed them this far away from the castle is unsettling.
personally I prefer just the mouth version, but I think you could improve the eyes by having a glowing red in the pupils kinda similar to what you did with Sienna surrounded by a dim red iris. Maybe tracing some bright red veins to add a bit more magic to it? Idk I'm spitballing.
That moment when the voice in your head is a formless void with a Saltzpyre face
Having no eyes definitely makes him more mysterious and scary.
Reeeally nice! No eyes for sure. I really enjoy that 'Mouth of Sauron' vibe.
Thankfully kruber is so self concious the daemon has no power over him
Well not exactly is more like self hatred and shame if I am completely honest the one who actually is imune is the fire 🔥 mage because she is to insane for his mind tricks
@@memesofwarhemmer7076 no she was also tormented because she lies to herself by saying the fire inside her makes her burn people and she cant admit that she does it because she wants to meanwile kruber fully accepts that many people died during his career and half the time the daemon tries to bribe him rather than torment him
Yoo this rocks!
I have to agree with Aurabai. Just giving the voice a the mouth gives it more emphasize on being a whisper. As nobody can see it. The eyes would make a great deal if the voice is not speaking, but a grin or angry shape is barely visible.
Very nice work. As usual...
Your content truly is amazing.
Looks like Darth Saltz...darth victor?
I love it.
I think making the eye only glow in the pupils would make it look more menacing in the dark, otherwise very good animation as always
Freddy Fazbear
no eyes for sure, it looks amazing
I haven't played this DLC yet. But I'm looking forward to it
No eyes make it look so much better. it doesn't need eyes, just a mouth to speak.
Expected Bardin to toss a wrench in the face/voices direction upon hearing it in his workshop.
No eyes seem better.
I think no eyes works best but HOLY SUGMAR THIS IS MAGNIFICENT!
i just imagine an emperor palpatine lookin guy whispering over my shoulder
i like the crimson red color to it. perhaps the color could change according to the person it’s speaking to (maybe an inverse color to what the character is)
the eyeless version seems a lot more sinister and reminds me of palpatine with the hood up.
Stellar as always Jan m'boy, keep up the grand work
Reminds me of Senuas sacrifice, and i think the sinister red works perfectly
If we're talking Senua's Sacrifice, this is the video you're looking for
th-cam.com/video/Js8mJaRiAH8/w-d-xo.html
I like to imagine it as a vaguely humanoid shape of dark mass which is constantly twitching and flickering while twirling around the character that it's tormenting~
i fucking loved castle drachenfels so much
its my single favorite warhammer novel of all time, and being able to go through the halls, and even the dining hall where he poisoned the elector counts was just like being a kid in disneyworld
tbh idk whats more sad, the fact that Castle Drachenfels gave me that much excitement or the fact that not many other things can
"Together we will turn towards the middle-earth."
Mouth only is perfect in my opinion alot more ominous
I like this. I absolutely like what you did with the face having it appear differently depending on who it speaks with. Had the mouth for Kerillian and a partial face with eyes for Bardin. It gives off the impression that a more complete form means it is getting into the head one of the five.
Good shit...
full body apparition for saltzpyre kek
Holy shit thats terrifying!
Perfect mix and blend of Emporer Palpatine and Voldemort
I finally figured out why the face looked familiar, it's almost like the Guardian from Ultima.
Now that the voice is confirmed to be Bel'akor, this seems a shit ton more scarier than before
always liked how out of all 5, kruber doesnt seem to give much of a fuck
hes probably no less guilt-ridden or whatever but he has the best grip on who he is and why he does what he does
You actually don’t have to search anymore, so long as people have access to Total War Warhammer 3 models.
In a recent Franz Lohner Chronicle entry, Lohner talks about Be’lakor, famous daemon prince who isn’t very popular with any of the Chaos gods. Olesya’s been using her shadow magic to spy on the Rotbloods, and she’s essentially picked up the magical radio signal of Be’lakor whispering in the ears of the Norscan tribe trying to get them to worship him. And Olesya’s description of his voice sounds eerily similar to the one the Five described hearing in Castle Drachenfels.
So yeah, it’s basically confirmed that Be’lakor is the Nameless Voice. (Even more so considering the ones after that talk even more about him.) Which makes sense considering his role in the Total War Warhammer 3 tutorial campaign story.
That's creepy. I LOVE it.
Great lighting man!
Oh this is really good great job. 👏👏👏👏👍👌
This is awesome
Nice! Very nice animation
Bardin: YOU'RE NOT REAL!
seemed like a distorted trollface at first
Reminds me of the Mouth of Sauron, I'd call that a good thing for these purposes.
amon is now in vermintide nice, welcome to the nexus hero
Perfect
as great as usual dude
Anyone else think the voice is belakor?
I like this design, it looks close to human but...off...wrong...it fits it
♥ Great animation
Just the mouth works well with Not-Constant-Anymore's nature: he's still powerful AF, but has no clue of who he was before - a featureless force of E X T R E M E persuasion.
I always imagine him as Emperor Palpatine.
That's Palpatine lmfao
Good job but if i can, i think having a different red for the both parts of the eye and not the same for the both can be better, like one of the two with a darker red.
Beside that overall that look good.
I'm getting Palpatine vibes from the face.
Darth Sidious, is that you?
The mouth only version seems better, it'd be fun to adjust the colour slightly according to which character it's speaking to.
The Nameless Jaw.
The Nameless walks among our bodies, the End Times are nigh.
With the gift of hindsight, I'd say the color should be changed from that red-orange to something more... purple. Not Slaaneshi purple, more of a purple-white. Otherwise just the face with no eyes works really well.
eyes or not eyes hm...
Both
Both is good
Now that we know it’s be’lakor it’s still awesome
Just the mouth is best imho. If your target is to give a faceless voice a face, i always think its better to only draw the parts that are being used to communicate. If the "creatures" communication is through eye contact, then it ONLY having eyes is more terrifying. If its communication is whispering, then it ONLY having a mouth is hella more terrifying.
No eyes. It'd be easier in multiple different ways but the most obvious one to me is that the eyes make it look cartoonish and if you decided you wanted to keep them you'd have to find a way to make them... not that. Plus without eyes it creates an extra layer of mystery to the whole thing. Obviously we know the voice is malicious- but a lack of eyes sort of lends to their somewhat enigmatic nature.
Plus I just love how expressive I thought the mouth was in the first bit with Kerillian.
... Just a thought I had, but what about the other direction? Just eyes? I dunno how tricky that'd be for you, or if it's even on the table, but it occurred to me.
No eyes for me. I liked the version you had that didn't even show the top half of his face. There's something about representing a voice as nothing but a mouth that makes sense. Eyes are for looking, the mouth is for sowing uncertainty.
POG
Basically G-man torturing wutelgi ASMR (sfw)
Now we know who it actually is, wonder if this could be remade with the Be'lakor we have in total war?
No eyes, and I reckon a cool effect would be having several of the mouths fading in and out. It can be the same mouth, but I feel like multiple mouths would be creepy
I like both of Them and i hope you might make more lager on
I swear to god, that voice was inspired by AM from I have no Mouth and I Must Scream
I think no eyes definitely works better in this case.
Well. Now we know what his face looks like.
And who he is.
I believe the nameless voice is Sir Constans Drachenfels himself.
I found out it's actually Bel'akor
For some reason the face reminds me of Murdoc from the Gorillaz. In a very good way.
This reminds me of the voice from Hellblade: Senua’s Sacrifice
My older animation might interest you in that case, it was directly inspired by my playthrough of the game

@@Janfon1 Yeah i saw that one, i really like the contrast with Sienna’s fire and the darkness.
now give him a name.
now give it a name
It'd be cool if he had visibly empty eye sockets
Is that by any chance an altered Saltzpyre head?
Bingo, absolute bingo
@@Janfon1 Noone can mistake that Head Posture for anyone else
Sick
I'd like a palpatine
Maaaaaaaan this is creepy... I dig his crooked nose!
You know for some reason I was expecting g man from half life
no eyes
Reminds me of The Guardian from Ultima VII
Its the great enchanter. Sense his story isnt cannon anymore this nameless voice is what he is. The first time they went to drachenfelse (forgive the spelling) his enchantment over the castle has let him stick to our characters.
Giving a face to the nameless terror whispering in your ear is easy!
Step 1: Don't!
Bel'akor update: *exists*
Reminds me of Sheev
My personal inspirations were the Mouth of Sauron from the deleted LOTR scenes and Mok Swagger, the villain who had an entire animation team dedicated to just his lips
What the fuck is the Nameless Voice anyways, lorewise, it keeps creeping me out after all this years while waiting for a Cata lobby
After the most recent update to the chaos wastes, most people I think now agree that the voice is be’lakor
Will we get more extended music from chaos wastes? I love the Tzeentch horde theme but I can't find find an extended version
Here you go - th-cam.com/video/VACcsY6COHk/w-d-xo.html
I thought the voice was that Nurgle sorcerer that was the final boss of the expansion?
That got debunked alongside Chaos Wastes, Nurgloth the Eternal =/= Be'lakor
We freed him from the castle at the end of the first Drachenfels map, Be'lakor is the one laughing after you place all gargoyle heads. Or at least I think so, I have zero clue how this works lore-wise
@@Janfon1 Hang on…we freed Be’lakor?
You could use gman body it would be nice easter egg
